Kyle blinked. “Come get something to eat. Then I’ll set you up something where you can sleep.” He aaid. He then lead Carlos into the kitchen, moving to make him a plate. Ike looked up from the table, looking at Carlos.

“Ike, this is Carlos. He’s a guest. I want you to be on your best behavior towards him alright?” Kyle asked.

“Okay Kyle.” Ike murmured. “Hello Mr. Carlos.” Ike greeted

carlos took the plate slowly, hesitating as he looked at ike. “hey..” he said and moved to sit at the table, slowly starting to eat. he really couldn’t eat much before feeling full. the most he had eaten was maybe 1/4 if the food. soon enough, kyle’s mother moved over. “kyle, who’s your friend?” she asked.

Kyle had sat down as well to finish eating his food. He then looked up when his mother entered the room. “This is Carlos. He’s a new kid that moved in beside us. I...Overheard his parents fighting so I went to go check on him. It’s pretty bad over there so I asked him to spend the night just so I knew he’d be safe and could rest easy here.” Kyle saidn

her eyes wudened. “is that what all that yelling is about?” she asked and moved to look carlos over. “you poor boy, we should get you to s doctor or something..” she said and carlos didn’t seem to want to make eye contact. he was tired. he didn’t want to deal with anything right now.

Kyle was silent for a minute. “...I have to work part time tomorrow night. Maybe I can bring him to the hospital before heading to work tomorrow after school.” He said

sheila sighed. “kyle, you just worry about school and i’ll take him tomorrow morning. let the boy rest.” she said and kissed her sons head.
