 louis bennet chambers was born on july first to anette meadows and jackson kendrick but was given up for adoption shortly after his birth as an agreement between anette and jackson. he stayed in the system until he was four years old and was adopted by a young couple, david and maria chambers, who were unable too conceive their own child and had waited years for a child. while things were shaky at first, he quickly adapted and they are the best parents in the world
 his childhood was pretty great until his mental health started to deteriorate around the seventh or eighth grade but he wasn't sure how to tell anyone about how he was feeling and bottled it up and pretended to act like a normal kid
 he wasn't able to hide it for long because he started having these horrible mood swings and would go from perfectly chipper to angry and throwing things in a matter of minutes and that was just the tip of his problems that would continue to develop
 despite his mental health issues, louis still is a vey charismatic and loving person who would do anything for a complete stranger if it made them happy
 louis feels things incredibly deeply and it sucks because all of his relationships, even now with his parents, are somewhat strained or unstable due to his issues and it just makes that pain so much worse and he has a nasty habit of blaming himself for any and everything that goes wrong in interpersonal relationships and it has made him extremely anxious and nervous within current relationships
 he has a fear of being abandoned which really plays into relationships because he always thinks something is wrong and can't get it out of his head they they are going to abandon him and he pushes them away and it's one of the many reasons he's never had a serious relationship, because he pushes people away
 tries his darndest to only outwardly show his happy and cheerful side because as much as he hates himself and is scared other people hate him, he doesn't want to be seen as vulnerable or broken or crazy because of who he is
 tw self harm the first time something bad happened during one of his "episodes" as he calls them, was when he started scratching at his skin, digging his nails in until it broke and he could see blood. he continues doing this to this day and it has never escalated into using physical blades but when the urge strikes, it is often accompanied by suicidal thoughts but he hasn't acted on them yet
 he doesn't really sleep often and when he does it is full of unrest and nightmares. the most prevelent one is where he is in a crowd looking for someone and each time he gets close enough to touch, they disappear and he gets dragged into what seems like a bottomless pit and then he wakes up in a cold sweat and panic
 when he was around sixteen, his adoptive parents took him to see a therapist to try and figure out what was wrong with him. the therapist diagnosed him with bipolar disorder but it was actually a misdiagnosis and he actually suffers from borderline personality disorder which has some of the same symptoms that bipolar does
 louis didn't know he was diagnosed wrong and took medication to help what was supposedly bipolar actually made his symptoms worse to an extent and he stopped taking the medications because they didn't work and he just threw the pills away one at a time to make it seem like he was actually taking them so that his parents didn't find out that he had stopped taking his medication
 still doesn't know what is wrong with him and is too scared to see a psychiatrist because he doesn't want to be misdiagnnosed or called crazy again
 he often has panic and anxiety attacks when overwhelmed with the fear that he is going to lose someone or someone is going to leave him or when he is overwhelmed with what is going on because he doesn't always process things smoothly
 actually went digging for his birth parents when he turned eighteen and he actually found his mother and they have developed a relationship and it is more of like an aunt and nephew relationship versus a mother and son relationship
 is gay but it took forever to admit it and a string of failed relationships followed him and he felt like a failure because of it and like he didn't deserve love

 she is the textbook definition of the wild card character trope. it has been herself over others since middle school. ruby doesn't car if what she does hurts someone as long as it benefits her in the long run
 being a wild card makes her extremely manipulative of others with little care of what she does. if she hurts someone, that's just the way it is and she never stops to ask if someone is alright and just keeps walking as if nothing is wrong, as if nothing happened that could be wrong. if it isn't she who is hurt, it doesn't matter
 tw cancer about six months after meeting simon and cruz, ruby was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and for about two months she hid it from everyone, including her parents because she was in denial. then, there was an incident where she was out with simon and cruz and her nose started bleeding suddenly and they dragged her to the medical center on campus where it was revealed to the two guys that she had cancer
 two weeks after starting chemo, her hair started falling out an it made her extremely insecure even though she knew it technically meant that the chemo was working and again, didn't tell anyone. simon was playing with her hair during a movie night and a huge clump came out and goodness it was so emotional and she freaked because she thinks without her hair she'll be ugly
 once she actually starts becoming close with her only two friends, she becomes very self-aware of all the horrible things she has done and feels so bad and isolates herself because she believes that si and cruz hate her for everything she's done
 is really super nerdy on the inside but hides it because she has a reputation to uphold and doesn't want people to start thinking she's a weirdo or geek
 ends up shaving her head after encouragement from simon and cruz and she normally wears a wig but occasionally will wear a scarf or hat or nothing
 when she developed romantic feelings for simon, oh my god she wanted to die because she does really like him but knows he likes cruz and that there is literally no possibility at a relationship between them because of everything
 isn't allowed to do a lot of the things she used to do like party because she gets tired extremely easily but let me tell you she still sneaks alcohol here and there

 christian james marlow, who mainly goes by chris, was born on april tenth in new orleans, louisiana to jessica and albert marlow. he is the oldest of five children. he is very protective of his two younger sisters, jamie and martha, and gave their husbands a hard time when he first met them. he also has two younger brothers, markus and nathaniel, who are a lot younger than him compared to his sisters
 his mother used to always call him chrissie and he absolutely hated it and always got extremely embarassed whenever she would call him that. rosalyn has her own arsenal or cute and embarrassing nicknames she uses. one in particular is 'christian grey' which only came about after the fifty shades franchise really took off. it made him really red the first few times but now it just makes him laugh. she also calls him christy to tease him as well as other cutesy nicknames like babe and honey
 life was relatively normal for the marlow family. there wasn't really any eventful events while they were growing up except for the fact that one of chris's uncles died when he was a freshman in high school. he wasn't extremely close to that uncle but it affected his mother a lot since he was her younger brother
 since high school, christian knew that he wanted to become a doctor and that's exactly what happened. medicine always interested him but it wasn't until high school that he realized that was what he wanted. he became a doctor and doesn't regret it for one second. he became a doctor and hasn't regretted that for even a moment

 as to be expected, chris is a funny guy and enjoys making jokes and getting people to laugh when they are down in the dumps. he tells a lot, and i really mean A LOT, of dad jokes now that he is a dad and it normally results in some eye rolls but laughs and giggles nonetheless cuz nobody can resist a good dad joke
 chris is one who acts on impulse and follows his gut even if people tell him that what he thinks is probably wrong. he has strong trust in his intuition and will go with it
 along with follow his gut, he is very detail-oriented and pays attention to the little things which is why he trusts his gut. picking up on the little things others miss has helped him a lot in his career and in his personal life
 he met rosalyn pritchett in medical school (i think) and it was practically love at first sight. he knew almost instantly after their first conversation that she was his other half, the one to complete him. they dated for a while before he inevitably proposed to her and they got married. since getting married, they have had two lovely daughters, ainsley and logan and chris spoils them rotten, he loves them so much
 has always been good with kids, especially since he has three nephews and two nieces who were born before he and rosalyn had their daughters. it was like instant, his immediate fatherly behavior when he help his first born nephew and from that moment on he knew that he wanted kids
 he took eight years of spanish, starting in fifth grade and now speaks it fluently
 is such a humanitarian and would rather go do charity work in a third world country than go on some lavish vacation to paris or the bahamas or whatever
 moved to new york for his four year college and then moved to seattle for medical school and then his residency where he soon became a doctor/surgeon

 sullivan anacreon oswald, who goes by ozzie or sully, was born in queens, new york to parents who he doesn't remember or remember the names of. the only information he knows about his birth parents is that they had immigrated from olinda, brazil at some point before he was born. he does know, however, that he was abandoned outside of a local church when he was only two years old which was the start of his journey into the very broken foster care system
 bounced around a few fosters homes between the age of two and ten because he was a very emotionally overstimulated and had lots of troubles with focus and would throw the WORST temper tantrums. imagine like a kid screaming in the middle of a grocery store and multiply that by like ten. that was a norm for sully. nobody really knew why he was this way but none of the foster parents he was placed in during this time were willing to try and get him help
 always called a 'neat freak' and 'schizo' by older foster siblings because sully likes things a certain way and if they aren't that way, he had a tendency to freak out or panic because it wasn't the exact way it was supposed to be. he would also meticulously count and recount everything like the number of grapes he ate or how many pages he had to read in a book. though his foster parents at the time did not get him help, he was showing early signs of obsessive compulsive disorder
 felt really unsafe in one of his last foster homes when he was thirteen years old. one of the older kids had really bad anger issues and often times would use sully as his own personal punching bag and the foster parents did nothing about it, just let it happen and so did sully. he never told anyone, just went on acting as normal as possible despite the black and blue bruises on his stomach and the worsening of his anxiety and the ocd rituals (like excessively washing his hands till they were red)
 his ninth grade biology teacher, mrs. grant, who had taken a liking to sully and who the young boy trusted a lot, was the one to notice the change in sully's behavior and called his social worker and what was happening was uncovered fairly quickly and sully was quickly taken out of the home as well as two of the other children
 he was stuck in limbo for a while and actually stayed with that biology teacher for a couple months and he actually had hopes that she and her husband would adopt him but it didn't happen and he felt so betrayed when he was taken to his next, and final, foster home where things went even more downhill
 started work at a local bookstore once being placed in a new home. it was a good job for him as he was shelving books and they were in alphabetical order by the last name of the author. the orderliness of the job helped relieve a lot of his anxiety and it was nice to have a bit of money saved up for what was about to come
 tw (sexual assault) his foster father in his final foster home when he was sixteen, raped and sexually assaulted him on multiple occasions and the man would buy him things in order to keep him quiet about all of it
 it got to a point where sully could no longer handle it and he ran away, taking what of his things he could fit in his school bag (which wasn't a lot) and took the cash that his foster parents had kept in a jar "in case of emergencies" and ran, never looking back. he destroyed the phone they had got them and basically went off the grid as they call it. after a couple months of sleeping on park benches and in random stores that were open twenty-four hours, he was able to legally emancipate himself
 actually finished high school and went to college (uc berkeley), graduating the top of his class in computer science with a minor in business and theatre which seems really out there but he really got into theatre in college and added it as a minor because why not? just more student loans and more debt but, for once, he didn't care because he was finally doing something that he loved and wanted to do
 got a job at a big tech company fresh out of college but he was hired as an assistant which sucked but his meticulous tics and behaviors made him a favorite because never once did he forget a date, mess up a coffee order, or mix up times for things. he was always ready to help in whatever way he could
 is a really big sweetheart but also tends to get anxious really really easily when things aren't the exact way they should be and it's bad
 never went to a psychologist or mental health expert or just someone to figure out what his issues are all about so he is left with undiagnosed and unchecked obsessive compulsive disorder. his rituals really freak out people and have scared away potential partners so he kind of has sworn off dating
 he actually ended up getting a dog, selina (like cat woman), and selina has helped ease his anxiety and calm him down when he's having a panic attack because he forgot to do something a certain number of times or didn't count something exactly or all of the above. selina has helped him move leaps and bounds ahead of where he was when he first ran away but she's getting older and doesn't have a lot of years left
 people who know him are surprised he has a dog because "like doesn't the fur getting shed that is all over freak you out" which is basically like indirectly calling him a freak or abnormal. but no, it's strange that one of the few things that doesn't freak him out is dog fur all over his apartment. to an extent, it is calming
 speaks english, spanish, and portuguese. he was never planning on learning portuguese but once learning that his parents were immigrants from a country that spoke that language, he started learning so he'd be able to talk to them if he ever met them in person. he knows spanish for the sole fact that he took it in high school
 developed depression due to the intrusive thoughts and feelings of unworthiness that have stemmed from his ocd as well as constant worry also from the ocd. he is always thinking of the worst case scenario if someone is so much as a minute late as well as worrying about if someone thinks he's weird or crazy
 moved up at the company he is at and is actually getting to put his brains to work and is getting paid a hell of a lot more than before and has basically paid off all his student loans, it's invigorating for him

 declyn has one little sister who he loves so much. her name is hailee and they are such cute siblings, look at these babies. even as smols they were cute. look at them
 used to be a brace face in middle school and he hated it. braces are so annoying and he wanted people to like him but he always talked funny because of them
 alright this babe was born on december twenty-third and was born in juno, alaska. right after his little sister was born, the family moved to idk california or smth? but they go back every year around christmas to visit family
 since a young age, declyn has been very involved in music. he learned how to play piano at age seven and taught himself how to play guitar during his middle school years (and has gotten a lot better). when it comes to him singing, declyn didn't really start singing until tenth grade but LET ME TELL YOU, this boy has a wonderful voice. it has a raspiness to it and it's wonderful okay? like girls were all over him
 sadly for the girls, declyn isn't interested. he identifies as homosexual, homoromantic but just isn't out of the closet. so people assume he's straight and that he is attracted to girls and yadda yadda. the reason he hides it is because his parents are very anti-lgbt+ and declyn knows that if they found out, hell would break loose in the house and he'd probably be kicked out. his father is very religious so he believes that lgbt+ people are going to hell and he's horrible and declyn hates hiding it but knows it's for his own safety
 trust me when i say this, declyn wants to come out more than anything else because he hates the fact that he's lying to everyone. he's lying to a girl that he might be dating to try and hide everything but he can't
 knows how to ice skate and has been skating since he was a child and has also played hockey since about the fourth grade
 did you know that declyn here has a doppleganger? his name is rosie and they actually became like good friends and it was weird at first but now it's hilarious
 like you can't tell them apart unless they are standing next to each other because rosie is a few inches taller than declyn (which declyn hates more than anything)
 the sweetest person you will ever meet. he's an angel, his smile is like so great and wonderful and he will do anything to make people happy even if it hurts him
 some key traists: kind, loving, affectionate, naive, doesn't stand up for himself, passive, a bit cheeky, insecure, passionate, driven, talented, dreamer, heart over head, sweetheart, sometimes flirty, lowkey anxious
 for a while, declyn was kinda self-conscious about his voice because he thought he wasn't that good but then, there was a boy hayden who said he liked his voice and deCLYN GOT SO RED IN THE FACE oops, he caught feelings
 one time, a guy was harrassing his sister and, no joke, declyn punched the dude but it kind of backfired because one, he got suspended, and two, he might have broken his hand because he was noodle boyâ„¢ at the time. all you need to know is that nobody is gonna disrespect his sister and get away with it ever
 for some time before anyone knew declyn was gay, he was in a relationship with hayden and besides the obvious struggles of not being able to say anything, things were good and declyn had someone he didn't have to lie to about who he was
 of course, his parents found out. they already didn't like hayden. well, when they did find out, hell breaks loose and declyn actually ends getting hurt and somehow the two manage to like get out of the house before anything too drastic happens
 well, now declyn is out to everyone and it's such a relief for him and he actually gets to not hide his relationship and it's actually the best thing (but also not because he got kicked out of the house, well not actually. he kinda just left)
 but hey, how he actually like comes out to the school is hella great okay, literally got in front of everyone and serenaded hayden. it was romantic af
 if you thought you were done with angst, you were wrong because have you met me? so, about two months after running away, declyn's dad wrecks havoc on declyn's life by reporting declyn as a runaway to the police. what this meant for declyn is that once the police found him, he'd be returned home because he wasn't legally an adult yet and was a minor. anyways, life got bad. there was a lot of verbal abuse and it sometimes escalated to physical abuse but not that often
 after this, declyn started avoiding hayden partially because his parents made him block hayden on social media and delete his number and all that but also because declyn was embarrassed. nobody really knew what was going on and when they'd ask declyn if they had broken up, he would say yes and it broke him
 oh yeah, one time declyn showed up to school with a black eye after this incident and when someone probably hayden tried to help him and ask what was wrong, declyn just didn't say anything and kept walking
 his parents ended up sending him back to alaska which sucked and resulted in him and hayden breaking up because declyn left without telling him but then they end up reuniting and hayden actually moved to alaska
 cael is the best not-dad dad and he wishes he was his real dad
