in sirius’s mind, he thought lying to be a perfect option. if he knew nothing about them but their looks, then how could they get in trouble? sirius always that he was so clever, and it always somehow came back to bite him in the ass. “oh, we know. we take great pride in our achievements.” he said loftily.

nikolai could feel the corners of his lips twitch downwards, because he hardly thought what these two were doing, or even claiming to have done, could be considered an achievement. he felt an all too familiar ache in his head as he sighed. "well, at least you're definitely not ravenclaws," he muttered to himself before putting his notebook away. "but i don't really feel like tracking you down later to find out what's really going on, so next time at least try to wipe your feet before you sneak in somewhere," nikolai told them.

james let out an offended ‘rude!’ and looked at sirius, who looked at his shoes. “ah, damn.” he sighed and shrugged. “had a good run, but i guess the fun is over.” he sighed, not exactly intending to leave once they walked out. “i guess you be coming to see if we made it to detention~?”

nikolai couldn't resist the smirk that bloomed on his lips at the exclamation of the boy with the glasses. it was also a bit satisfying to see the other subside as well, and the slytherin let out a breath of relief that he hadn't realize he'd been holding in. he followed them out of the kitchen, looking over to the other as he was spoken to. "yeah, i don't really have a choice. but if it makes you feel any better, your detention will probably just involve you having to clean up your mess," he told him.

sirius smirked, trying to sweep the over along. “well, consider us defeated! well make our way to the common, don’t you worry.”

a crease formed between his brows as nikolai looked at him. despite his words, he had a feeling the guy never really knew when to quit. "it'd be better if you made your way to the nearest professor," he muttered after him, eyeing him suspiciously.

he blinked, smile never wavering, but he knew this was back firing. “we will in the morning, does that sound good to you?” he asked and james stared at him. james knew that sirius was running out of ideas, and the fact that this guy was cute and sirius was getting flustered didn’t help.

nikolai averted his gaze, not really sure how he felt about having that smile facing him when he was trying to get the other to cooperate. "and how exactly will i know you do?" he asked, because he wasn't inclined to have to follow up with this whole situation the next morning.

he hummed. “how about i have the teacher tell you?” he offered, suddenly getting a pretty wild idea. “just tell me which teacher!!”

nikolai narrowed his eyes at the both of them. "are you seriously admitting to stealing some other student's robes? that could get you in pretty serious trouble, you know," he said with a warning. it was clear something was off about their story, but at this point whatever web of lies they were spinning would only make things worse, and nikolai wasn't super thrilled to see someone get detention.
