and, shit, he was getting promoted to second in command.
for a moment he didn’t even fully know how to react. how do you react to getting told you’re basically the leader’s right-hand man? catalyst’s oh-so-clever line was sure to briefly throw him back on the rail of defensive, shooting a remark under his breath (that shouldn’t be taken too seriously) along the lines of, “if i really wanted to i would’ve done it by now.†and, he hated himself because it made him think of lucerne’s fucked-up humor and response to everything --
he lifted his head to look at them, and perhaps the nicest thing he ever said in his entire time at the badlands; “i’m honored. thank you.†let the whole world fucking look in shock at him actually being a decent person for once. … as second in command did he have to start being a more decent person? fuck. let's hope not.
he filed into line, eyeing all of the stuff that catalyst had out. only when it was his turn did he glance at catalyst, the earrings, and then back to cat again. “those aren’t for me, are they?†a pause. “does it look like i want holes in my fuckin’ ears?â€Â
