It's funny, that no matter how many people said they'd always be there, they always end up disappearing. Or dying, sometimes they died, like her first step-mother. But her father, mother, second step mother, they'd all disappeared. Her sister too, though she desperately clung to the idea that she and Ruby had just gotten separated and that they'd find each other again soon.
She looked at the man she was walking beside. He was taller than her, with a much longer and more confident stride. He had a sharp face, pointed chin, high cheekbones, narrow eyes that didn't miss a thing. Everything about him seemed gray, his clothes, his eyes, his hair, even his skin had a grayish pallor to it. He didn't speak much, and what he did say was often scathing. There was a kindness to him though, something he tried to hide but inevitably showed.
Uther was a strange man, but she didn't mind. In fact, she kind of liked strange people. In the time that they'd been traveling together, she'd come to see him like an older brother, someone that would protect her and guide her, but would always call her on her shit. Dia would be lying if she said she didn't need all of that.
Physically, she was weak. There was no denying that. She had a slight frame with barely any weight to it - if she lifted her shirt one would be able to count her ribs - and she could hardly call herself tall, being only 5'3", 5'4" if she stopped slouching. Her emaciation wasn't the only sign that she took poor care of herself, as there were bags under her eyes that indicated a lack of sleep. Dia had a rounded face, gray eyes, dark hair and an easy smile.
The young woman walked with a skip in her step, even after walking several miles that day already. Neither she nor her companion complained about the extensive walking, he because he had a lot of stamina and she because she didn't really see a reason to complain. The worst thing in her life was her missing sister, at least as far as she was concerned. Ruby's disappearance was hardly the only problem in her life, she was just good at ignoring the rest.
In the next few minutes she zoned out, gaze on the ground beneath her but not really seeing anything. Her body was on autopilot, and she only regained focus when Uther smacked her arm, making her look up. There was a settlement ahead, an old city. Dia picked up the pace, and Uther sighed, irritated by her eagerness to find more people. What with his long legs he caught up easily, and it wasn't long before they were in the outskirts of St Peters.
She looked at Uther, the beginnings of a grin forming on her lips. "What do you think it's gonna be like?" She asked, folding her fingers over her palms then opening them, only to repeat the process. Despite the exercise they'd been getting that day and the little amount of sleep she'd gotten the night before, she still had plenty of energy.
The lean man shrugged, looking over the visible buildings, searching for signs of life. "I don't know, Dia." He said, stabbing his fingers through his hair. Normally he kept it quite neat, but it had become rather messy in the past few days. She had a feeling he was excited too, just for a bath instead of seeing people.

Dia is short and extremely skinny, to the point of emaciation. There are bags under her gray eyes and it's not hard to look at her and think she's not good at taking care of herself, because she isn't. She doesn't eat or sleep very often or much, and she doesn't consider herself to be particularly beautiful, though perhaps some might disagree. She has dark hair - not quite black but not really brown, either. It's straight and quite long. While her outfits may change, she always wears a purple bowtie.

Personality:
It's unlikely that you'll meet someone as sweet and kind as Dia, as she just wants to make the world a better place and brighten the day of those around her. She is very friendly, selfless and maternal, considering almost everyone she meets a friend by default and more than happy to do whatever it takes to make them happy, she's also a complete mom, both to kids that she adopts or to her friends or groupmates. She is gentle and loyal and a total hugger. In general Dia has three moods: overwhelmingly cheerful, sad but hiding it behind a smile and facade of happiness or just plain sad and angsty. She's had a difficult history, but she's had good times that she often looks back on and misses. Still, she looks to the future and tries to keep her focus there; while she's ambitious she does sometimes doubt that she's cut out for the role of leader. It doesn't usually seem like that, because most people always see her confidence and extroversion, which is easy for her to display when she's around others. When she's alone, however, she starts becoming anxious and paranoid that everyone will leave her, as she's become used to and expects people to do. This can lead to panic attacks, but Uther talks her through it and keeps her calm until she runs into someone. She is rather squeamish when it comes to violence and gore as well as dead meat, those things making her nauseous almost any time she encounters it. She can be quite impulsive and sometimes blurts out whatever comes to mind.
