but you pay pay ;; dev+playing piano

Cyrus couldn't do.. anything. Something had happened to him, shifted within him. He couldn't tap in to any of the abilities he had grown so accustomed to, so dependent on in battle. He couldn't float, he couldn't remember how to switch into his larger cougar body, he couldn't use his telepathy. He cursed himself for losing these abilities - how much of his strength came from them, after all? Sure he could use his natural strength well enough, but when he went to battle, his powers were often the deciding factor in whether he won or not.

Perhaps it was fate that brought him upon the keyboard that day. Luckily it didn't smell like Miles, so he knew that this piano wasn't around because his ex was playing it. Maybe he had his own. Cyrus didn't really care. Dragging and pushing the piano back had been interesting, to say the least. A few bruises to show for the task and he had managed to drag it to an acceptable spot, close enough that he would be able to run for help, but far enough that he wouldn't be disturbing anyone.

He brought his paws up to the keys with a smile. While he had been introduced to the instrument through Miles, and as such it had all those bad memories, his love for the way it sounded extended beyond that. Sometimes playing was a struggle, bringing back the good memories of Miles. Whenever he started to think about the good memories, it made the bad memories that much worse.

Cyrus began to tap lightly at the keys, playing the all to familiar song by The Fray. It was one of the only songs he could play. Piano was one of the only things he had left. All his abilities, his talents. All gone, except for this. If he hadn't found the keyboard, he might have gone insane. The instrument wasn't even in good condition, it was old and dirty. He was surprised it even worked.

But he was oh so grateful it did.

"hm...what song is that? It's nice--I-I guess." the male examined the keyboard as he strode over.

Miles was.. pleasantly surprised.

He had never thought in a million years he'd ever pair a positive word with Cyrus's face again, but here he was.

"You learned to play?" The canine tried keeping his tone smooth to avoid any confrontation with Laughing Jack's dumb cousin that was usually not far nowadays. His gums still hurt something awful but mama didn't raise no bitch. He paused by Leo hesitantly.

Cyrus lifted his head as Leo approached. Leo had been quick to be wary when Cyrus had found this place, but he seemed more or less over that now. "It's called 'How to Save a Life,' by The Fr-" he cut off as Miles approached and spoke. 'you learned to play?' as if his melodious tapping of the keys wasn't obvious enough an answer to his own question. "Actually, Miles, I'm participating in the ancient act of smashing the keys and hoping for the best. It's worked out pretty well so far," he stated flatly, noting a little to happily the way Miles paused with hesitance.

[align=center][div style="width: 450px;; text-align: justify"][size=9pt]As he approached the scent of his grandson, he managed to hear the conversation Leo had started with Cyrus and what followed after, as well as the very distant piano. He couldn't help but snicker a little bit at the snarky response to Miles. Yes, that was certainly his great grandson. He probably shouldn't be proud of that, but he was and he wasn't planning to wimp out on this belief and give some long and unnecessary lecture. After all, grandparents were supposed to be the fun, nicer guy who happened to birth somebodies parents. At least, that's what he's always understood. "Say, can I hear it? I didn't really hear it much." He'd ask, also giving an approving expression at Cyrus's remark towards Miles.

Cyrus looked up to his grandfather, basking in the approving expression and launched back into playing, flowing through the song a lot swifter and smoother this time. He had only intended to play the song but he couldn't exactly help the faint humming he ended up accompanying the music.

He looked briefly to Miles as he finished the song but looked away quickly to flash a smile at his grandfather, seeking approval from him.

[align=center][div style="width: 450px;; text-align: justify"][size=9pt]Whenever Cyrus began to play the song again, he certainly did wear a grin much larger then before, delighted by his grandson's ability. He'd try to give a supporting little rub on the head, before speaking. "My my, you might have to become a famous pianist if you keep on learning." He'd say with his raspy yet gentle voice. He once placed piano, not very well but he still tried to learn. He hadn't played it in the longest time, so if he were to try he'd sound like a literal hammer being smashed on all the keys at once. The last time he played was with his niece Serendibite, who he hadn't seen for the longest time. He certainly missed his sister and her family, but that was a long time ago and he had begrudingly gotten over it. Now he had a grandson! What else could he want? Cyrus was great. He supposed that was why he was called a great grandson.

Cyrus chuckled nervously, looking away. "Nah, if anyone should be a famous pianist its Mr. Arson over there," he flicked his tail at Miles. He couldn't deny that Miles was much better than him and his one song he could play, and he had a sense that his grandfather wouldn't enjoy to compliment, even if it was masked with an annoying nickname. This would likely be how he trod around Miles for the next little while, dumb nicknames put in place to distract from the anger welling inside him over how things had ended between them.
