specifically, all about frank castle, and what key elements of him i'm incorporating into the making of snowden.
early life/serving
- Born in Queens, New York in 1982, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 18 after the 9/11 attacks, eventually rising to the rank of Captain. Prior to his enlistment, he married his wife, Maria, who was already pregnant with their first child.
- Raines would later take part in many historic combat operations in both Iraq and Afghanistan, eventually earning the title of Scout Sniper, and was inducted into the ranks of the elite Marine Corps Force Recon, undertaking classified missions behind enemy lines.
  - "Two years ago, Lieutenant Snowden Raines was awarded the Navy Cross for his service in Afghanistan, right? That's second only to the Medal of Honor. This guy is a war hero."
- Despite being one of, if not the best sniper in the corps, it is generally implied that many of his superiors didn't like him and put him in situations where they hoped he would be killed.
- For heroism in the line of duty, he was decorated with the Medal of Honor, the Navy Cross, 3 times the Silver Star and Bronze Stars, 4 times the Purple Heart, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. After finishing his second tour of duty in Vietnam, he came back to the United States and had a second child with his wife. He then signed up for a third tour, for which he illegally re-entered the U.S. Marine Corps under the name of Snow Rainison in order to return to battle. Raines served a total of four years.
tragedy
- The day he returned from Iraq, Raines was tearfully reunited with his children at school. They spent the day together, but Raines eventually realized how weary he had become, and although his daughter pleaded, he declined to read her favorite bedtime story 'Penny & Dime', and promised that he would do so the next night, an action that he later regretted deeply.
  - "She looks up and sees me. I see her. By God, that's real. That's real, Red. Boom. In an instant, she's across that classroom floor, she's in my arms. She's squeezing me so tight I swear I was gonna bust a rib, you know? We just stayed there like that, we're holding each other."
- While on leave, he took his wife and two small children to Central Park in New York City. Coincidentally, the family happened upon the scene of a mob killing on the Sheep's Meadow green in the park. Fearing witnesses, the mobsters murdered Raines' family in cold blood and escaped. Raines managed to survive the attack but was deeply traumatized by the incident. He was going to testify in court to identify the shooters, but Snowden was denied this since the New York police department were deeply connected with the Mafia. He decided not to return to Marine duty.
  - "For her, there was never going to be any tomorrow, see. The last time I'd see her, I'd be holding her lifeless body in my arms. Meat was spilling out of her, Red. The place that her face used to be."
- His wife, son and daughter were all killed. Raines survived after getting shot in the head, but at the hospital, a Do Not Resuscitate order was placed on him by District Attorney Samantha Reyes. Although he flatlined, he came back to life a few seconds later without any medical aid. Upon awaking, Raines demanded that the nearby to be taken back home away from the hospital.
consequences
- When mobsters slayed his family, Snowden vowed to spend the rest of his life avenging them. Now equipped with state-of-the-art weapons, he now wages a one-man war against crime as the Punisher. Raines used his combat experience, guerrilla warfare, urban warfare, using detective-like skills, always adapting to the enemy such as using the Mafia's own methods and tactics against them and whatever resources and means may be necessary to do so.
- Raines targeted the three gangs that were involved in the firefight that killed his family - the Kitchen Irish, the Dogs of Hell, and a Mexican Cartel. Punisher took his first shots at the Dogs of Hell, ambushing a small team of them and massacring them all. He later fired a machine gun into Nesbitt's meeting of the Kitchen Irish, killing them all before finding the Mexican Cartel and hanging them off meathooks.
- Seeking to find any surviving members of the Kitchen Irish, Raines went to an illegal pawn shop, where he spoke to the owner, offering him a considerable amount of cash for police radios and the shells in his shotgun. Once he had what he wanted, Raines prepared to leave, but the greedy man tried to convince him to stay by offering him pornographic films. Snowden ignored the offers until the man told him that he had a film involving a 12-year-old girl. Furious and disgusted, Raines locked the door and proceeded to kill the man by brutally beating him with a metal baseball bat.
- Eventually, Raines tracked down and killed the remaining men responsible for his family's death, and seeking closure, burned his and his family's home down to ash.

- "The best thing about him is that if he offends you, he just doesn't care."
- "As a man who put his [life] on the line and really went through the ultimate sacrifice for this country in his involvement in the military. He’s a guy who brought the war home with him [in] the worst possible way. There are a lot of iterations of this character and in all of them it’s a man who’s gone through this unbelievable trauma and what’s interesting about our take on him is how this trauma reshapes his own philosophy."
- "If I got one thing from the comics, I think, as far as superpowers... his superpower is his rage. His superpower is that he is not going to quit, and he is going to go forward no matter what. And that's as human and grounded a quality as I think as this sort of genre could have."

  - max was trained and kept by a known criminal, who was killed by his own fellow gang members. max was freed in the gunfire and chased after the four men who robbed and killed his owner. max managed to kill one of the men  on his own, and at the same time, snowden had known of the men's plan to kill their brother in arms, and pursued them as they fled the owner's house. seeing max chasing the same men, snowden, after killing the second man, snapped the third man's leg and left him for max to kill as frank finished off the fourth criminal. having earned max's respect, snowden took the canine back home to tend to his wounds. time and time again, they have saved each other's lives.
      - snowden frequently jokes about max and his' relationship. they're deathly close and many often are shocked at how responsive max is to snowden, but raines has his fair share of tooth marks in his limbs from when the two first met.
        - "mickey had a theory that i got max all these chew toys because i liked him- nah, i was just hoping to tire out his jaws before he got to me."
