If one were to visit Sal's herb, dye and tea shop any time after the sun had set, they would find it abandoned. The only thing resembling a cashier or store assistant was Chrissy during those hours, and she couldn't exactly ring up customers. It's not as though anyone could enter, though; most days at dusk the shop tended to be locked, compared to before when she kept it open until almost midnight.
Instead of working, Salem had been prioritizing fighting instead of working. It had been almost a month since the ring was first introduced, and she spent as much time as she could learning new techniques and trying her best to knock down NPCs. This often led to her coming in to work battered, bruised, and exhausted the next day, but the payoff of knowing she was getting strong was well worth it.
In the beginning, she was scared. She had really only volunteered to fight on a stupid impulse; she never thought she'd keep going with it. But something about fighting made her feel strong and in control, even when she lost. Which, to be fair, was often. Though she'd never admit it, Salem lost more than a dozen fights before she won even once, and, when she did win, it was against some gawky teenager who looked as fragile as he acted in the ring.
The only thing that really made him stand out was how much he looked like a teenaged Teddy.
Her number of wins began to increase in her third week of fighting. Just zoning out in the ring and thinking about the robbery, the manipulation, and the oppression Teddy inflicted on her was enough to make her vision go red. There was even a rare occasion where she had to be pried off of someone in order to make sure no one was fatally injured. Salem never thought of it as hurting innocent people, though. Whenever she saw a new competitor she simply saw Teddy's face on a variety of different bodies.
Salem could feel newfound muscles in her arms and legs, muscles that she'd never felt before. When serving customers during the day, sometimes she'd look in the wide window while reaching to grab something, just to admire her new body. Despite the injuries she got immediately after, Salem came to realize that her impulsive decision to fight Micah was a good thing, considering it gave her an outlet to release her anger without troubling the administration. Besides, Micah's thorough beating wasn't all that bad; whatever injuries she received simply fed into the anger and hate that kept her going, especially if they were inflicted by The Administration. Did she put herself in danger simply to anger the administration and further fuel her vicious instincts? That was a thought Salem has had to bury multiple times using liquor.
