If one were to visit Sal's herb, dye and tea shop any time after the sun had set, they would find it abandoned. The only thing resembling a cashier or store assistant was Chrissy during those hours, and she couldn't exactly ring up customers. It's not as though anyone could enter, though; most days at dusk the shop tended to be locked, compared to before when she kept it open until almost midnight.

Instead of working, Salem had been prioritizing fighting instead of working. It had been almost a month since the ring was first introduced, and she spent as much time as she could learning new techniques and trying her best to knock down NPCs. This often led to her coming in to work battered, bruised, and exhausted the next day, but the payoff of knowing she was getting strong was well worth it.

In the beginning, she was scared. She had really only volunteered to fight on a stupid impulse; she never thought she'd keep going with it. But something about fighting made her feel strong and in control, even when she lost. Which, to be fair, was often. Though she'd never admit it, Salem lost more than a dozen fights before she won even once, and, when she did win, it was against some gawky teenager who looked as fragile as he acted in the ring.

The only thing that really made him stand out was how much he looked like a teenaged Teddy.

Her number of wins began to increase in her third week of fighting. Just zoning out in the ring and thinking about the robbery, the manipulation, and the oppression Teddy inflicted on her was enough to make her vision go red. There was even a rare occasion where she had to be pried off of someone in order to make sure no one was fatally injured. Salem never thought of it as hurting innocent people, though. Whenever she saw a new competitor she simply saw Teddy's face on a variety of different bodies.

Salem could feel newfound muscles in her arms and legs, muscles that she'd never felt before. When serving customers during the day, sometimes she'd look in the wide window while reaching to grab something, just to admire her new body. Despite the injuries she got immediately after, Salem came to realize that her impulsive decision to fight Micah was a good thing, considering it gave her an outlet to release her anger without troubling the administration. Besides, Micah's thorough beating wasn't all that bad; whatever injuries she received simply fed into the anger and hate that kept her going, especially if they were inflicted by The Administration. Did she put herself in danger simply to anger the administration and further fuel her vicious instincts? That was a thought Salem has had to bury multiple times using liquor.

Not as someone who participated in any fights — God forbid — but as someone who organised fights for the pleasure of viewers from all across the country. Whilst Micah was the mastermind behind the ring itself, Teddy liked to see himself as the man who brought people near and far to marvel at the sport. Yet another success story on the Knope brother’s part; one thing they were great at was working together.

What Teddy could never anticipate was the very fact that Salem involved herself in the fights as well. He couldn’t say much except that she really had guts to stand up to the majority of the fighters. Whilst he’d not comment, he would wordlessly contemplate on the fact that she was doing more fighting than Teddy ever would. A seriously brave feat in Teddy’s not usually so humble opinion.

Sauntering into her shop, Teddy knew exactly where to find her as he then stood nearby, hands out as if to urge her to remain quiet. ❝ You have inspired me. ❞ He commented before beginning to smile, wagging a finger at her before wandering around the store. ❝ Hear me out. A women’s fighting league. You’d have more competitors and we can really boost that career of yours as a fighter. ❞ Leaning against the wall, Teddy nodded his head before turning his head to glance over towards Salem. ❝ Tell me you like the idea. ❞ Teddy wasn’t always the heartless creature people saw him as… at least not when he could benefit from his thoughtfulness.

Instead of loosening herself up like she usually did upon seeing a customer entering, she simply narrowed her eyes and opened her mouth. However, she shut it promptly upoon seeing Teddy's hand gesture.

A...women's fighting league?

Well, she supposed she'd win a lot more fights that way. Even still, she tended to lose more than she won, and one of the big reasons for getting into fighting was so that she could win back the money that she rightfully owned, that she deserved.

However, the idea negated the other big reason she started in the first place. Salem thought for a moment about how easy it was fo imagine every man she fought as a typical, stuck up asshole, just like Teddy. Hell, if they were white, she could practically copy and paste Teddy's face onto theirs in her mind. She wasn't sure she'd be able to do that with women.

Salem was on shaky ground with the Administration, she knew that much. She'd dug her own grave, and knew in some strange, still uncorrupted part of herself that she needed to stop digging. There was no need to keep fueling this hate for the Administration; while she loved Mike, she could see how negatively his resistance had impacted him. She'd come to the Badlands for a new start, not to find people other than her mother to resent.

The only sound that could be heard in the shop was Chrissy's tongue rasping over her fur on a table of plants in the corner. The air was heavy, and Salem had to shake her head a few times to clear her thoughts before she spoke.

"That...sounds good," she said, her words slipping through gritted teath. She swallowed before adding, "thank you."
