There was a crowd forming on the border. Maybe it was because of how quiet things had been of late that people were particularly interested in whatever was going on. Whatever the reason for the gathering, they had to go check it out. So they walked over, not immediately seeing who had garnered the attention of so many.

Oh. Shit. It was Louie.

Several thoughts raced through their mind at once. What was he doing there? What did he want? What had he said to the others? Susie's little visit had been concerning enough just knowing about the cult and their old status there. But Louie? He had drank the kool aid and gone back for seconds. Even if he'd been questioning all that recently, he wasn't bright enough for them to be sure he wouldn't say anything.

"What the hell are you doing here?" They weren't hostile, exactly, but they still weren't really all that friendly.

While not a scar, one very notable marking on their chest is the "BL" brand. They have two piercings, one in their tongue and the other in the cartilage of their left ear. They typically dress in dark colors (favoring jackets with some sort of writing on the back), and their hair is black. They're not all dark, however, as they have pale blue eyes that peer out from beneath medium-sized eyebrows.

PERSONALITY  if it feels good, tastes good, it must be mine
⇥ Catalyst is ambitious, with the cunning and ruthlessness to reach their goals by any means necessary. They can be brutal when they feel it is needed, however when it's not they won't bother. They tend to be rather aloof and apathetic to most things and people, with some very rare exceptions. Provided those around them don't cross a few specific lines, they're content to leave them be, though they've been known to take an interest in some people, which seldom has a positive end for whoever their interest is in. They can be manipulative, and will often encourage people to make bad decisions. Those that stick by them will be rewarded, but those that do not will be cast out, as they've been outcast for their entire life and have learned to appreciate loyalty wherever they can find it. Even during the most stressful of situations, they usually keep a firm grip on their temper and keep their calm, though when they do snap and lose their temper, it is uncontrollable. Salem glanced back as two others walked up; one he hadn't met yet, who was holding a crossbow and was followed by... Was that a dog? Like, a genuine dog? It looked more like a wolf, and it was clear to anybody looking that Salem was immediately nervous at the idea. Addy was also there, but Salem was starting to understand the other man liked to hang around the borders for whatever reason.

Salem retracted his hand after the handshake, laying it on the hilt of his sword absentmindedly. The stranger had introduced himself as Louie, and seemed a bit intimidated; Salem didn't blame him, they didn't exactly roll out the welcome wagon.

"Catalyst? Oh I'm sure they're around here-" Speak of the devil, there they were. Catalyst burst in, snapping at Louie immediately and Salem took a few steps back. It looked like whatever was going on was incredibly personal, and frankly Salem didn't give much of a shit about that drama. Instead, he glanced back at the dog and tried to figure out a polite way to ask if he could pet it.

[b]"[i]Catalyst" she was quick to correct, her voice hostile and snappish. They didn't go by Scott as far as she was concerned, you would call them Cat or Catalyst otherwise the brunette would make sure you didn't disrespect them again. "Call them Scott and we're gonna get real acquainted, understand Louie?" she questioned with a raised brow, the northerin inuit dog at her side also keeping his eye on this newcomer. Though he would not act without Paige's say so, luckily.

Then Cat appeared, their unfriendly tone catching her attention quickly "Want me to escort him away?" she questioned, knowing damn well Atlas would be down for a little walk. Or well, Paige could always bring out her crossbow if that seemed like a better idea, either way Cat's tone definitely wasn't helping Louie as far as Paige was concerned.

Salem said that they were here. Good, good. Unsure what else to do, he nodded, but then the girl was snapping at him to call them Catalyst, not Scott. Oh god. The anger and insistence reminded him of himself when he was younger, when they first changed their name from the mundane to the bizarre. He had been ready to throw down for it too, but he'd been a fanatical cultist. Why the fuck was she so defensive? What had Cat done here? He didn't have time to react to her, though, because then his almost-sibling had arrived.

There they were. They were here. He knew that, he knew that. Everyone said that Catalyst was the leader of the Badlands, Susie had been here and seen them for herself. This Salem guy said they were here. But without a drink to give him confidence, doubt plagued his every thought. But they were here and they... weren't happy to see him. "What the hell are you doing here?"

Louie opened his mouth then closed it. "I came to see you, to join." He rubbed his hands together nervously. "I couldn't stay there any longer. They wanted me to step up and take my dad's place and I just - I couldn't." He was starting to ramble, but then Cat abruptly cut him off.

They shot a glance at Paige, one eyebrow lifting slightly. He'd called them Scott? They never thought they'd be relieved by someone using the name they let only a handful of people using, but here they were. They were glad in a way that couldn't apply to anyone that hadn't been in that cult. It was small, but it was a sign that he did - or was trying to - think of them not as some sort of god, but just a regular person.

"Ignore her." They said, just loud enough that Louie and Paige would be able to hear, though they weren't trying to broadcast loudly enough for Addy or Salem to hear. Specific people might get to use their birth name, and they might even be starting to prefer it from those people, but to the public at large?

He came to join. He'd broken off from Mourningstar. "I couldn't stay there any longer. They wanted me to step up and take my dad's place and I just - I couldn't." They knew, all too well, that he could say hardly three words for hours and hours, but once he started rambling, he would just keep going. And they were going to have to put a stop to that before he said something they'd regret. So they stepped forward and pulled him into a hug. "I'm glad you left." They murmured. "You're better off without them." They'd all be better off if the cult just disbanded. Maybe without Cat and Derick and any apparent heir, it would

//tw for mentioning death, cults and alcohol

The decision to leave hadn't been an easy one. That was his home, the only one he'd ever known, with the only people he'd ever known. It had been his entire life, his everything, but who was he kidding? It had been a long time since things had been right or okay.

It was a lie, you know, to say that those people back in Mourningstar had been everything. Yes, it was where his father was now buried, where his mother and his sisters and friends remained, but there was one other. The person that had almost been like a sibling to him, before his father made them his god. Derick ruined everything, didn't he?

He couldn't anymore, though, because Catalyst had killed him. And now, here Louie was, tracking them down, not even the least bit drunk. Yeah, he'd been wasted when he came up with the idea, but since then he had many sober hours - sober days - to turn around and go back. And he hadn't, so now he was slowly approaching the city that his almost-sibling supposedly called home.

Salem had been sober for far too long, frankly. The last time he'd had a drink had been- gods, nine days ago? Back when he was still commanding his ship and had access to a nice liquor cabinet. He'd been collecting bottles after arriving in the Badlands, but it was nowhere near his old collection.

He frowned when he imagined Captain Shire drinking any of his liquor; he knew it'd most likely happened already, but it still felt violating and wrong. Well whatever, Shire would pay for it in time.

It was safe to say Salem wasn't in the greatest mood, but his spirits still lifted as he noticed someone approaching the city. He saw no reason to not greet them, so the man approached with both hands hooked around his belt and a mildly sleazy grin stretching over his features.

"You look lost, are you aware you're in the Badlands?" Salem asked, resisting the urge to call the other man "kiddo". He was still getting used to the idea of not being the youngest around here and well- frankly, most of the people he'd met seemed so young.

"Salem, and you are?" He sprung into an introduction, reaching out one hand to offer for the other man to shake. It was still bandaged and bloody, and Salem was still sour after his initial joining and the questions his handshake had raised, but he wasn't fucking rude.

There was a low growl as Atlas approached the stranger, the wolf appearing dog was always with her and if she wasn't right there she wasn't far behind. This was no different. Paige appeared, calling her protective friend to her side. She patted his head before looking to Louie, ready to send Atlas to attack should need be. His almost-sibling was her sorta-sibling, though the two weren't aware of this similarity. Instead he would be greeted by the pain in the ass brunette who walked around with a dog and a crossbow. Not exactly their most friendly greeter.

[b]"This is the Badlands. Who the fuck are you and what the hell do you want?" She demanded, her face emotionless and more of a resting bitch face. It probably wouldn't help Louie either that apparently she looked like Cat. Though she also was completely unaware he knew them, not that it would change her behavior towards him at all since, well, it's Paige.

— it was different, seeing a group of people already out talking to someone at the border without catalyst having already beat addy to it. part of him welcomed this, but also.. being beat by two others made it not quite the biggest achievement the redhead had made in trying to - be more friendly with newcomers.

he slid on over towards the growing group of people, arms crossed over his chest and watching the man curiously. by the sounds of it, it looked like they’d already given the guy their usual badlands greeting -- y’know, not quite friendly and not quite unfriendly either. slightly neutral, he guessed.

so he simply observed from a few feet away, waiting for everything to unfold. or more so just for cat to show up.

There it was, the feeling that this was a horrible idea. As soon as people started approaching, Louie had to resist the urge to turn tail. Mourningstar wasn't home, not anymore, but it almost seemed better. Almost.

"You look lost, are you aware you're in the Badlands?" At least he was in the right place, that was sort of a relief, though the figures before him were still intimidating. How pathetic. He could practically hear his father scoffing at him. In some ways it was perfectly rational, he thought, to be uneasy with strangers in a place that was notoriously dangerous. But Mourningstar was dangerous too - just look at the person he had come to see. Mourningstar had made them that way, that was one thing Louie knew perhaps better than anyone else would. He had known them when they were just a kid, when they were just Scott.

Oh, shit, right. "Yeah, well no. I didn't know exactly where I was but... this is where I wanted to be." The older man had stuck out his bandaged hand and introduced himself as Salem. "Louie." He replied, shaking his hand. It was weird, physically, but it took him a moment to pinpoint that it had to do with missing fingers. There was a girl, too, with a cross bow and a dog. She wanted to know why he was here. Right. "I'm looking for Catalyst - er, Scott? I don't know what they're called here..." He supposed it was probably Catalyst, but the name left a bad taste in his mouth. Another man walked over, staying silent as he watched.
