Flintlock had brought dye. Proper egg dye, that was probably twenty years old, but it worked. No more having to experiment with expired food dye and water, they had what they really needed to make this work. She had tables set up behind the casino (apparently Cat was fine with tracking blood in but egg dye? God forbid) and it was covered in bowls of colorful dye (labeled, just to be on the safe side), with several dozen hard boiled eggs ready to be dyed.
Molly was arguably more excited about this than anything else. It had been years since she had the opportunity to dye eggs, and it was something she always enjoyed. So here we are. She had to resist the urge to jump right in even before the guests arrived, only dying the test egg to make sure all was as it should be.

addy had never really dyed eggs, before. holidays had never particularly been a fan favorite at his household, so usually they just ended up treating easter and all other holidays like any other regular day. needless to say, dyeing hard boiled eggs wasn’t something that usually happened on the daily basis. he stood there at one of the tables, egg in hand as he glanced around at the colors of dye set up across the table. perhaps it was a little too late to start being festive, but addy was going to start trying, nonetheless.
only thing was that he didn’t really know where the fuck to start. what, did you just dip it in? for how long? did it matter how long? he couldn’t help glancing towards molly who was currently dyeing a test egg, watching briefly to see what she was doing before cautiously following suit. fuck, this was dumb.

[align=center][div style="0px; width:450px; height:auto; text-align: justify; font-size: 9pt; line-height:13px;"]Egg dyeing.. Addams remembered dipping his fingers in it with his brother, the dye sticking to him (despite desperate scrubs in the shower) for days afterwards. Easter had been a big deal in his house, but he hadn't dyed an egg in.. well, years. He was 36 years old, if he found an egg, he'd rather eat it.
But, what the hell. Pulling out an egg, Addams surveyed the dye for a moment, before turning to Molly. "Any white crayons around here? Or.." What had his mom used as well? "-butter?" That was the stuff that made the dye slide off, and if Addams was gonna dye, he was gonna make a cool design first.

once upon a time creed had celebrated easter. she didn't remember much about it until now. the memories of her waking up the earliest and then waking up everyone else so they could find easter eggs came rushing back. however, this time she actually could put faces on her parents and the twins again thanks to the picture arrow had in his backpack of the family. the insurrection never really celebrated holidays, so this was interesting to her.
she stood and watched as molly tested out one of the eggs, creed's eyes following her every movement. she couldn't quite figure out why she was so intrigued by all of this. she wanted to try it as well, but she remained back a little ways, her hands in her pockets as she watched them.
"why do you need a crayon? or butter?" her attention was on addams now, her eyebrows knit together in confusion.

・゚✧  Ellie was most definitely one for celebration. When growing up, she'd always been around a family who took holidays very seriously; Christmas decorations were usually up almost before November had even rolled by, for Thanksgiving the entire extended family often found themselves in the Rose's abode to celebrate together, and Easter was more to her religious family than giving baskets of candy to children or dyeing hard-boiled eggs.
She'd sat down with the kids to help them decorate their eggs, a soft smile playing on her lips as she watched Henry shaking the egg. "What color do you want to dye your egg?" She asked Ida, reaching her hand out to pull closer a bowl of whatever color she wanted. "Uh... Pink!" She exclaimed, Ellie pulling the bowl of pink dye over to the young girl. As Ida busied herself with getting her hands messy with dye, Ellie peered over at others sat around, dyeing eggs themselves. She found her attention focusing on a man, evidently struggling as he fumbled about with his work. "Do you need any help?" She asked Addy, cracking an amiable smile his way.

last thing addy had expected was some pregnant lady fuckin’ asking him if he needed help. not only was it the last thing he’d expected- it was definitely the last thing he had wanted, as well. for a moment he hadn’t even thought she was talking to him in the first place- with those two kids as they went about decorating their eggs. glancing over to see her attention focused on him, though, made it insanely obvious. you’ve gotta be fuckin’ kidding me.
the redhead actually did need help - he had no idea what the fuck he was doing - but he knew that he would be damned to admit that he had a problem. “i actually don’t need any help, so,†he remarked, turning his gaze away from her to try and work on dying eggs. someone was asking for butter and - wait what the hell did butter have to do with dyeing an egg? “shit,†he muttered to himself under his breath, just to realize he was in the presence of children, simply settled for glancing around at his current audience before simply acting like nothing had happened in the first place.

・゚✧  Ellie only wanted to try be kind and amiable around the other people at the table, even if to her it was slightly questionable to see a grown man sat by himself whilst fumbling at a hard-boiled egg. But, she wasn't here to judge - she just wanted this to be as fun for others as it evidently was for Henry and Ida, the young girl getting her hands stained with pink dye and the young boy opting to go with a purple egg. She had smiled towards the redhead, hoping that perhaps he'd smile back. After all, today was a day of celebration and cheer, she would be happy to milk every last opportunity for joy.
Perhaps Ellie was just trying to be kind, but perhaps she's struck a nerve with this particular man. She smile faltered for only a moment as he replied in a way that Ellie could only describe as dismissive. Ellie knew dismissive - she was in a relationship with Daniel, but now wasn't time to remark on such a thing - and so, quirking her brow, she lowered her gaze back down to the children's eggs, before he cursed quietly. Ida gasped, throwing stained hands to her mouth dramatically before giggling, Henry muttering something about it not even being a big deal. But, as Ida removed her hands, pink stained her face, Ellie realizing that dyeing eggs was going to be a really messy event for her and the Stirling children.
Wordlessly, Ellie got a tissue, dipping it into her glass of water before trying to clean Ida's face. And then, Ellie commented quietly, words etched with slight derision, "I'm not really convinced by that..." And then, she tipped her head, continuing to help with the kids' eggs, as if she'd never made the sassy remark in the first place.

"You know.. to make designs? Haven't any of you ever patterned eggs before? The dye doesn't stick to butter, or to the white crayon." Looking around in the supplies, Addams brightened as he found what he was looking for. "Watch." Biting his tongue in concentration, Addams scribbled a few doodles onto the egg, before dropping it in the purple dye. "My brother and I used to do this every Easter." He missed his brother often, but as he watched the egg turn in the dye, he felt the ache even more. Wherever he was though, Addams knew he was safe with mom and dad. They could watch out for each other, he knew it. Turning his attention back to the egg, Addams dipped it a few more times, waiting for it to turn the right shade. Pulling it out, Addams looked triumphant as he revealed the smiley-face doodled egg. "Ta-daaaa."

okay, thing he needed to note; children thought cussing was really funny. as the kid with the pregnant lady who’d talked to him began to laugh and giggle, he felt his lips quirk just the slightest bit. yeah. kids were alright, he decided. he merely settled on grabbing another egg from the batch, considering what exactly he should do. it looked easy enough; dip the egg in the dye a couple of times, see how it goes. last thing that he needed was this blonde to embarrass the fuck out of him-
but then she made matters even worse by making that remark. although really a simple phrase, the way she worded it made it obvious that it was nothing short of sassy. he turned his head over towards her, looking at her with slightsurprise that someone who looked as sweet as her would say anything confrontational. though, the slight surprise was mainly just the slight raise of his brows, and a simple, “uh, excuse you?†he watched the kids - the kids - dip the eggs before he simply followed suit, trying not to make it such an ugly disaster like last time.
“sorry, princess, but not everybody in the world wants your f- help.†he’d gotten by with a curse the first time, but he wasn’t really going to try for a second. dipping the egg, he took it out and looked at the color before gesturing towards it. “see? perfect.†he could make simple, simple designs; the rest he really couldn’t do, he supposed.

still, she'd gotten hope all dressed up in her little yellow dress, with a little yellow headband and a bow on it. wisps of auburn hair were beginning to grow in, clearly a recessive gene from somewhere in the family, and the only thing that kept hayley from murdering someone for looking at her and marching back to her pleasantly frozen mountain was the fact that hope seemed to be having a good time, smiling and laughing and basking in the sunlight she so rarely was offered.
and then egg dyeing came. hayley might have done it in the year or two she'd apparently had before the blackout, but she had no memories of the ritual aside from books, movies, and old magazines. but now she had a daughter, another three on the way, and she'd be damned if she let them experience the same dull, eventless childhood she'd had. she wanted them to remember things like easter bunnies, christmas presents, tooth fairies, and thanksgiving dinners. she wanted them to have the childhood she'd been denied, and if that meant traipsing down to the badlands looking like a whale, sitting in the hot sun, sticking eggs into dye, then she'd do it.
cut to hayley, ten minutes later, sitting before a disaster. hope was sitting on the table, her favorite wooden horse carved by jackson in her mouth. her left hand and forearm had been dyed blue, the right yellow with the palm of her hand more of an orange, and splotches of pink covered her right leg and cheek.
as it turned out, egg dying with a four-and-a-half month old was sort of a disaster, and hayley herself was dyed an array of colors, several eggs resting in their cups of dye. hayley sat, clearly defeated with the process, just letting them take their coloring as she eyed hope, doing her best not to smile at the grinning infant, who was clearly having a great time.
[ for reference, hayley's size and her outfit. ]
