☁ she had hardly slept the night before. hope had to be fed around the clock, and every time her eyes drifted shut the egg timer buzzed for another feeding. if it wasn't feeding, then it was the newborn crying; she needed her diaper changed, she wanted to be held, she just felt like it. as much as hayley loved her daughter, there was no way in hell she was subjecting herself to motherhood for another child.
but she wasn't tired. comparitively, hardly slept was a hell of a lot more than no sleep. she woken early for another feeding, gotten herself a glass of tea, watched the sunrise. another feeding, she took a bath, got dressed, then another feeding. it was work, but it was for hope, and she'd cut an arm off for her child's well being.
it was around noon, when hope was well fed and tucked in for a nap, hayley was as well rested as she'd been in the last week, and she made her way down into the main, hugging her cardigan close to her frame. ❝flintlock,❞ she called out, hazel gaze shifting around the room, ❝can everyone please gather for a meeting?❞
she watched as people filled into the room, leaning against a chair as she waited but not quite sitting. once it seemed enough had made their way in, she cleared her throat, crossing her arms low on her frame against the cold of the morning. ❝i've been here for a while. when i got here, i was pregnant and desperate for a home, for somewhere to raise my daughter, and you all have helped me build a place i'd be proud to see hope live her life. i want to watch my daughter grow up feeding chickens and making snowmen and spending holidays here, in this place, with you people.
❝but we don't have a leader. for a while, it wasn't really an issue. the badlands, northstar district, they didn't have leaders either. but now they do. and i don't want to say it makes them a threat, but it does make them dangerous. there's someone in charge, making decisions, and if they make a decision against the lodge, right now we have no one to call the shots.❞
and here came the part that sort of made her stomach cramp and twist. ❝if no one wants me to lead, then i'm okay with that. but if you all will have me, i'd be honored to try to keep you guys safe, happy. i have a newborn daughter, and i can tell you all right now, my loyalty to you all mirrors my loyalty to her. you've all become a family to me over the last few months, you've all been kind to my child, and it's something i'm forever grateful for.❞ stuffing her hands in her pockets and releasing a breath, she glanced around. ❝so, does anyone disagree? have questions?❞
