Elinor is a true altruist, this being one of her greatest qualities. She is often seen putting others before herself out of respect and she wouldn't back down for even a moment if somebody needed assistance. This extends even to strangers; she couldn't imagine being vile towards anybody else, mainly because she'd prefer to meet kindness with kindness-in-excess ideally. However, she can quite easily be taken advantage for due to her selflessness, especially since she doesn't know when to say 'no' or stand up for herself for the most part. Instances of her truly standing up for what she believes in will signify that she's at the end of her tether and she's becoming desperate for her voice to be heard.
In addition to this, being too altruistic means that she is naturally a very optimistic person. She tries to see the best in every person and, with this, becomes too trusting of people too fast. If anyone wrongs her, she is likely to let things slide, believing that things will get better in the future. This child-like naivety shows off her good-natured innocence, but also leaves her vulnerable to hurt, emotionally and physically.
Though she is an introvert, she is naturally sociable, happy to try converse with others even though she is not the greatest at conversation. Ellie likes to pride herself on the empathy she has towards other beings, whether that be other people or animals. She is a highly sensitive, finely tuned instrument when it comes to recognizing emotion. She can feel everything, although she struggles with actually intellectualizing the feeling. She's naturally a good listener, and she has the innate ability to be nurturing towards others. Surrounding herself with too many people too quickly though can be awfully draining. She experiences the world through her intuition. Though she is quick to see the best in people, her gut instinct is often quite accurate when it comes to reading people.
She is quick to form an emotional attachment to a group that she has dedicated herself to. With Flintlock Lodge, she already feels as if she owes the group something for their kindness towards her and Mick, and she is happy to assist them in return for a place to stay and remain safe. Anything short of meeting obligations with her loyalty and hard work will completely fail her own expectations, and she is quick to beat herself up about it.
One major difficulty she experiences is the fact that she is often so concerned with other people's feelings that she will very often refuse to make her own feelings known. She is fantastic as repressing her emotions until she cracks. She is a very private and withdrawn person emotionally, often internalizing her feelings. She feels as if she must protect her own feelings, much like she tries to protect others' feelings by helping them. This toxic way of viewing emotional expression only leads to her feeling anxiety and stress.
She quite often allows her anxiety disorder to get in the way of things that mean a lot to her. Her mind often ticks over the 'what ifs' and is constantly feeling as if she may be in danger. It causes a lot of unease within her and, without anyone that she feels comfortable enough to talk to about her anxiety anymore, she often keeps that part of her very much to herself. Sometimes, it even gets in the way of her relationships at the Lodge; some days, when things are too overwhelming, she often doesn't act quite like herself. Sometimes, it even causes her to want to hide from everything and everyone, where she is unable to face the day out of fear.
Lastly, Ellie has quite the habit of being a stubborn soul. Being so quietly determined, when she truly knows what she wants, she will work as hard as possible to ensure that her dream is completed. Sometimes, this means that persistence is needed to convince others to allow her to have her way. She is never unkind, but she can be very headstrong when she firmly believes it's the right way to go. Often acting as the sheep rather than the shepherd, she rarely shows the persevering side of her. It's saved for days where she needs to be strong.
Despite being so soft spoken, she is by no means socially shy as a person. As she grows, her confidence will slowly begin to rise and her reliance on others will slowly begin to dwindle. It will just take time. |
