to whom it may concern (staff, about data lossage)
#1
Hey so, I lost an 8 paragraph post in the the most recent time the system went down, and it's brought my attention to the issue about posts disappearing as the database glitches. I know it is out of the control of the staff when the database crashes, but are there any measures that can be taken to prevent significant lose of posted material?

Because if there's any way of improving the backups for the site, or if there any way we could prioritize the safekeeping of already posted material to make sure I and other members can trust when something is posted or sent it stays there, even if the site goes down due to uncontrollable circumstances.

I know personally I need to make sure I save my material to separate documents more and there are measures I can take to make sure I personally never lose a post again.

But if there's anything that can be done to prevent post and any other content loss for members and staff members, and if there's anything that can be looked about creating better backups that hasn't already been looked at, please look into it. I'm definitely no coder, and I'm not an expert in how possible something like this is, but I do believe you guys can figure it out if you put you minds to it.

Thank you for listening,
Jade.

i know this isn't a staff related thing and ive mentioned it quite a few times but
i use clipdiary!!! it saves everything you've copied and it's easily accessible by just setting up a key on your board and it'll open when you press it. ex; windows key + c

it's free for students, too. i lve been using it for about a year and it's saved my life and my posts sooooo many times. it also lets you save snippets (like templates!) so instead of being caught in all of your clips you can easily get to the ones you need to save. ive gotten into the habit of copying stuff right before i post so i won't lose anything!! until this gets fixed u should really check it out it's p amazing

the only downside is it's only for computers so if you're a constant mobile user you're outta luck

hey, jade! i'm so sorry for your post getting lost in the database restore, i completely understand how frustrating that can be. the staff team are already discussing a way to someone try to compensate everyone who lost their posts or accounts or anything in the database restore, though we definitely recognize something like an eight paragraph post can't simply be re-created.

nevertheless, the database backup issue you mentioned isn't exactly something we can improve, unfortunately. the server plan we most recently purchased included an automatic database restore within 24-48 hours of a crash or error. we paid for that feature within the plan, and there is no way to further improve that instant backup unless we either spend more money or i log in every hour or whatever time to manually backup the database, to my knowledge.

though, i believe i am starting to understand what is the cause of the database issues, and am working on it currently! hopefully, that will prevent these things, as i know how absolutely crushing it can be to know your hard work was lost due to things that are not your fault in any way.

again, i apologize for the loss of your work and any stress it might have caused. the best i can do is to continue working on this issue and researching about the database backups, as i'm learning as i do this as well, i'm no professional coder myself, i'm just learning! i'll be sure you get the memo about the post loss compensation the staff team will be offering soon, as i hope that will be better than nothing!

<33 much love, and many apologies!
