PRETTY FACE, MAKE 'EM WANT A TASTE * / JOINING

he'd never expected to find himself here, hunched against the cold and flurrying snow and sticking out against the arctic landscape.  he'd spent his years running with no intent of stopping, especially not in a place like this.  he didn't know how long he could stay out in these conditions with the little knowledge he had of the area, meaning if he wanted to continue living, he'd have to buckle down and head towards civilization.  while the snow-painted landscape was foreign to him, tracking was not.  he'd tracked targets for his brother through the busy underground network of his home and had learned to track his food as the world went to shit.  his meager skillset was the only thing keeping him alive, and he shudders agains the clenching of his heart and stomach.

now was not the time to sink into his past.

dark hair whips about a gently spotted face, the sun-kissed skin marred red by the bitting conditions.  his mouth and nose are covered by a makeshift mask, though like the rest of his clothes, they won't be enough if he remains outside as the sun begins its descent in the sky.  while such form fitting fabrics and sweeping coats were customary of his former life, allowing him to whisk through alleys with easy and remain beneath the notice of those who sought his family name, they barely had any affect when it came to keeping the cold at bay.  the male shrinks in on himself even more, absently checking that his equipment was still firmly attached to his person.

not that it was going to do him any good.  his fingers were frozen stuff, greatly reducing any accuracy he'd acquired over the years.  at most, he'd take to swinging around whatever was on hands in close combat.  features scrunch up at the thought, though quickly smooth out as he takes in what's before him. he'd left the shelter of the forests behind, but it appeared another was close at hand.  a rather large building that stood tall and proud against the winds.  he knew he was a stranger in strange lands, but he'd rather take his chances with whoever might call the lodge home rather than tough it out among the barren landscape.  his brother would've established his own small gang by now, would've walked in standing tall and proud and demanded a place to say and easily talk his way into a deal of work and shelter.  but he wasn't his brother, and his brother wasn't here.  he had to do this his own way.

Instead, it was death. If nobody knew that you were alive on these mountains, then you simply weren’t. This mountain was perilous, a death wish to those unprepared for the extreme weather conditions, and Eddie knew this so well from experience. Five years of it to be precise.

He took a quick swig out of a flask, the closest thing to a glass of whiskey whilst he was beyond the confines of his office. Although there were more logical ways to keep warm in the midst of this bleak winter, this did the job just fine, a warming buzz which sat comfortably within as he watched from the porch; a chance to forget the way even gloved fingers began to slowly numb from the cold. A silhouette emerged from the treeline, heart leaping into his throat as Eddie so carefully observed the person who slowly began to approach the lodge. Down the stairs he walked, shrugging the strap of his rifle off of his shoulder so that he could hold his weapon in his one hand. Especially considering the circumstances between Flintlock Lodge and Bluestem Prairie, Eddie couldn’t take the risk of kindness again.

❝ What brings you here? ❞ Edmund questioned bluntly as he approached the newcomer, slowing to a stop a short distance away. The newcomer more than likely deserved a warmer welcome but instead he’d be stuck with Edmund and his dry, dismal ways.

// sorry for the quality of my post, but welcome!

he has no way of knowing about the current tensions, has no way to shield himself against the coldness of the wilderness and the man that strides towards him.  all he can do is sense the blunt hostility, the distrust at his unfamiliar face, and do his best not to insight any more of it.  slightly trembling hands lay flat, palm up, before edmund, an attempt and showing that he means no harm as he struggles to find his voice.  "looking for a place to stay," he finally answers, voice tinged with a raspiness from general disuse.  he hopes the chill wind that whistles around them covers up the wavering tone and hint of foreign accent.

his hands return to the dark folds of his clothing, though they find the handle of the fan that lays within.  it's a comforting movement that eases his shuddering just slightly.  shadowed eyes squint at edmund, traveling up and down his form in a whip-like appraisal before they find a spot just past his head to lock on to.  head up a-sang, the strong voice echoes in his head, but don't look a beast in the eyes unless you have the advantage.  a barely imperceptible nod that the man disguises as a vain attempt to keep the hair out of his field of vision.  "i'm..." he searches the name that had been whispered to him so many years ago, a promise and a declaration,  "pyrrhic."
