they had made a terrible, horrible mistake. it wasn't anyone's fault, not that he had known about, but he knew that they shouldn't have gotten on that ship, and his father shouldn't have taken one of the only life boats for just them. they had been on the ocean for days, they were running out of food, and phineas was growing more and more scared. his father was acting strangely for the past two, which didn't make him feel any better.
"we wont have enough food for the both of us."
"i know, dad. theres nothing we can do."
there was a long silence between the two, phineas playing with the plastic bag of a granola bar that had been in the life boat package, his father staring down at the boy before he slipped a hand into his cardigan pocket.
"we could have enough if one of us weren't here."
phineas stared at his father, before looking to the pocket as he slowly began to pull something from it. phineas knew what it was, a small revolver pistol, one that was hardly as big as his fat hand.
"dad-"
"it's alright, phin."
"dad, what are you-"
"it's alright, phin."
phineas fell silent, staring in terror as his father rose the gun. his father only smiled at him, nodding.
"it's alright."
BANG.
another passenger ship had picked him up, starving and dying of thirst. he had run out of food five days before, and the water he had drank had made him increasingly more sick. once brought to shore, he was simply left with some food, fresh water, and told to head north, and he did. he had kept north for an entire year, scavenging and trading what he could afford to until he reached.. a lodge. shockingly, it had people, from what he could hear, so he took a gloved hand, rose it, and knocked against the wood.
