//trigger warnings for violence, injuries, blood, etc

They'd barely taken a breath between getting their new injuries sewn up and bandages swathed around them and marching over to the casino. They'd grabbed their pretty much ruined jacket (rest in peace old friend), given Gavril a quick kiss and then headed towards the casino, ordering anyone that happened to be around to spread the word that there was going to be a meeting.

All Cat wanted right now was to lay down and sleep. Forget being fucking stabbed, this was painful. The old wound from Mike that they'd tried so hard to hide had been re-opened, and that was only the beginning. Their shoulder had been dislocated (though it was back in place now), their eye was slowly turning black, their arm had taken a blow meant for Creed, someone had delivered a pretty solid kick to their knee and while not the most serious injury they had, it caused them to walk with a bit of a limp. And, of course, there was the small gash on the back of their head. Truth be told, that one messed them up the most, if for nothing else their history of taking blows there. It wasn't a happy one by any means; hell it had even influenced the rules of the Badlands.

They had hidden the stab wound. Part of it had been to hide all weakness that one might take advantage of, part of it was so that no one would ask what would happen and they wouldn't get any questions about the person that had stabbed them. But in this case, it was a question they'd answer perhaps even before it was asked. And they'd had a bit of an epiphany; these wounds didn't make them weak for having them. Yes, someone might still try to take advantage, but they'd cross that bridge if and when it came up. To everyone else, however? They'd taken all of this damage and still there they stood. That took strength.

(At least that's how Cat wanted to think about it.)

So they made no attempts to hide it, they limped towards the casino, (they tried to downplay that, if just because that more than anything else felt like a telegraph of weakness), their torn, blood-drenched jacket slung over their shoulder. They hadn't bothered putting a shirt back on, which they slightly regretted as it was a bit of a chilly spring day, but it was too late to change their mind.

Since they had gotten back and pretty much immediately went to see Mordecai and Lucerne for treatment, and then headed to the casino. There was no time to do the small amount of prep that they normally did, so they had someone go get Molly and have her bring their cardboard box of goodies. In the meantime, Cat sprawled out on their usual billiard table; forget that casually leaning against or sitting on it. They just wanted to fucking sleep. They were exhausted and everything hurt. Nothing sounded better than curling up with their boyfriend and actually letting their body heal for once, but no, they had things to attend to first. A frustrated half sigh/half groan escaped their lips.

kate had been there for months. months of violence, of bloodshed, of danger and thinly veiled threats. sometimes the enemies were beyond the border, sometimes they were in the form of neighbors and 'friends'. in her twenty-eight years of existence, she'd learned well enough that, in general, people left you alone if you didn't give them a reason to do otherwise. don't talk shit, don't pretend you're the baddest bitch (even when you are), and don't have things people want. don't have extra food, don't have fixed up tech, and more importantly, don't have power. power was the very reason her wife had died all those years ago, and power, kate knew, was quite possibly the most dangerous thing of all.

truth be told, kate wasn't exactly sure why cat was fifty shades of fucked up that day as they entered the casino. she sat at a table, playing a game of poker for worthless bragging rights, cards in one hand, a glass of something dark colored and smelling like acetone in the other. she was winning, but she didn't really care; poker just reminded her of nyssa, all those years ago, the games they'd play which exchanging flirtatious glances. they had played for bragging rights though, and frankly, in comparison to this game, against men she held little interest in, it was much better. still, cat came in, looking like six feet of shit, and kate only quirked a brow, laying her cards out and grumbles emitting from those at the table. they threw there cards down and muttered petty insults, and she ignored them, shifting her eyes to the boss, raising a brow as she glanced them over, patiently waiting for them to speak. perhaps they'd explain why they looked like crap, perhaps they wouldn't. it didn't affect kate much either way, because she could probably guess what happened.

catalyst had power, they flaunted it. they struck her as the type to try to make men bow before them, pretending they were somehow better than the rest of them. in the end, though, they were all human, they all bled red, and while she'd been taught to bow to no one in her time with nyssa, kate understood that you could have peace or pride, and after all these years, she was tired of proud people. she sort of figured they'd done something to deserve whatever had happened to them; they held power, and that always came at a cost.

[b]sheogorath
[b]and i say to myself, what a wonderful world
The casino. A smokey haze permeated the interior, the scent of alcohol, and burning wax candles filtering into the dusty, low lighted and shadowy air. Sheogorath had been avoiding it for the past two and a half months, ever since his punishment, but now, for the very first time in what felt like ages, the red haired man was stepping foot inside of the dark, shaded interior. Bolder than ever, his amber gaze, sharp and piercing, swept across the vast room with quiet interest.

He saw Kate, but she didn't interest him as much as what his unwavering gaze fell across next. It was Catalyst, a visible limp in their gait, a blood stained jacket slung over their shoulders. Not a word passed from the Badlands leader's mouth, and honestly, Sheogorath didn't care to hear anything that they might have had to say, but even he had to admit, he was curious as to why Catalyst was in such a battered shape. Originally, Sheogorath hadn't planned to stick around. He had only wanted to prove himself capable of conquering his fear of the place, and he had done just that. He would have left, but Catalyst's condition intrigued him, and frankly, Sheogorath wanted to find out more about what had happened. So, he lingered, a shadow in the outskirts.

Here he was at this meeting, why he even bothered to attend meetings was a valid question to the man, it wasn't as though anyone would really miss his absence. Half the group seemed to give him a wide birth, and the other half had issues with him stemming from very real feelings and courses of events. He squinted judgmentally at Cat, the leader was no longer "Boss" in his mind, it seemed to him, a show of more respect than they deserved.

The soldier crossed his arms over his chest, standing straight, his eyes evaluating Cat as they took up their usual place. It was... regrettable that Mike was currently not in a situation to offer help to the leader, because while he found the idea of the person a bit nauseating, he still was loyal to Cat, despite the fact that the bastard had staged a scene between themself and Creed, thus making Mike chose between the two.

There had been no contest, he chose Creed, chose her for all the times he had failed to take care of her, and Cat had promptly decided he was better off dead than alive, not that Mike blamed him for that conclusion. However, he was now... still alive, and Cat seemed to be trying their hardest to make Mike's life miserable, not that anyone could make his life as miserable as he himself made it on most days.

The only light in his life, and also quite a big shadow from it as well (though not the only shadow) was the discovery of his son, Will, still being alive. It was hard to believe that the boy had somehow survived all these years... and had made his way here, to Mike. Thankfully, his son was nothing like him, taking after his mother more, god, Jenny had been one amazing woman.

Mike's face fell slightly, and the mental barrage of insults that had been streaming through his head directed towards Cat ceased as his mind was occupied by a more bittersweet subject. His lovely, decreased wife.

— so cat had finally returned. addy hadn’t really known what to expect by the time he got there, nonetheless the time catalyst sauntered over to the casino-- but the sight of catalyst wasn’t exactly the best one. the man looked in absolutely shit shape. there was the limp in his step, just the overall way he held himself. huh. for once catalyst didn’t look as strong and mighty as he always did. if anything, it was actually kind of badass.

he knew this meant there was a meeting, and so he sauntered in there and found a place to sit during the whole thing. cat probably had some big news, good or bad, and addy didn’t know quite how he felt about that.

creed felt.... numb. not physically, she could still feel all of the fucking pain she had received in the last few days, she even had thought about skipping the meeting to stay at home and lay down and just get a lecture about it later, but she didn't. she was numb emotionally. she didn't know how to process what had happened, her last family member was dead now and she played a part in that happening. if she didn't go and get him he probably would've been alive still. so, instead of letting the guilt and sadness fill her, she started shutting down. it wasn't smart, but it was easier.

creed walked into the casino, looking around at the people starting to gather around before she noticed cat laying on one of the billiard tables. though her side hurt like hell from being shot, she still stood tall, trying to ignore it as she walked over to them, giving molly a small smile as she did. "are you gonna start the meeting or what? i wanna go lay down so hurry it up."" she asked them, her eyebrows knitting together before she spoke again.  "fuck it. you know what? make room." she nodded her head at them in a way of trying to let them know that she intended to lay down as well, not caring enough to go to a different table to lay down. she watched as cat sighed, sitting up with some difficulty before moving over without any complaints. once they did, creed laid down on the billiard table as well before letting out a dramatic sigh, giving them halfhearted finger guns.

//tw for injuries and death

Ugh, so many people around. Normally they'd be happy but today the number of witnesses to their pain was exhausting. Finally Molly arrived, bringing the objects and information they needed to actually get this shitshow going. Ugh. Just the mere thought was exhausting, and it was pretty clear that they were in no hurry to get on with this. And then Creed. They wished they could tune her - and everyone else - out and just rest. But they couldn't do that until they got this over with.

Begrudgingly they made room for her on the billiard table, sitting up so that she had plenty of room to lay down. They shut their eyes, bracing themself, then opening them once more. "Alright, I guess I'll start with the elephant in the room." They gestured first to themself and then to Creed. "We went on a mission. It failed." They wanted to get Arrow and get out. Arrow had gotten killed and they'd barely made it back to the Badlands with their life.

That was a jolly thought, wasn't it? Jolly reality, more like. "Creed and I barely made it back. Well, you can see us. But we made it back, and took a few people down with us, which means they'll be pretty pissed. The 'they' refers to the Insurrection, a bunch of militant arseholes that are either ex-army or trained by ex-army. Best be on alert, I'm not sure if they'll want revenge." They glanced down at Creed, brows lifting slightly. "Am I missing anything?" She shrugged, so they shrugged too. Oof, that hurt, can't do that again. "Any questions?"

//Rest of the actual meeting part will be tomorrow as usual. I won't say that Cat definitely will brush off any questions but it might happen

Others arrived. Sheogorath was quick to approach Michael, drifting next to the other man's side like a silent wraith, even the limp in his step nothing more than a quiet foot fall, hardly audible. As Catalyst finally began speaking, Sheogorath listened with curious interest. Though he ad not favor for the other person, he was indeed intrigued to know what had happened. In all honestly, seeing Catalyst hurt brought some form of satisfaction to the red haired man. He knew it was wrong to feel such a thing, but in his mind, the leader deserved it. Sheogorath had suffered greatly for his sins, and would continue to do so. It was time Catalyst suffered, too. But Sheogorath doubted such a thing would knock the leader down for long.

A mission? So that was where Catalyst had run off too. Interesting. And they had managed to piss off another group as well. Well, that would prove difficult to deal with. Sheogorath wondered if this group of ex military personnel was innocent of any amount of crimes or not, or if this group, the Insurrection, was full of harsh, cruel folk like the Badlands. Either way, Sheogorath wouldn't participate in any fight unless attacked first. He had no interest in protecting the Badlands, and especially not it's leader. If this other group attacked, then it would be Catalyst's fault, and their problem. Sheogorath would defend himself if necessary, but nothing more.

Truth be told, at that moment in time, Mike couldn't care less if Cat had died, however, as his eyes strayed towards the bedraggled figure of Creed, his heart skipped a beat, and the color he saw was predominantly red. Cat had put Creed in danger, he didn't want to wait until Cat said anything, his instincts were telling him to lunge at the leader, grab them by the throat, and lift them off the ground.

It took several deep breaths and clenching and unclenching his fists to calm him enough to even listen to what Cat had to say, how they explained this... Creed could have died, she looked like shit already, and while Mike didn't know what had happened, it was obvious that the young woman had been through shit as well, which was something that the man never wished upon her. She had been through so much already, she deserved a break.

Shifting uneasily he clenched his jaw, looking at Cat with slightly narrowed eyes as the leader explained what had happened, it took quite a lot of will power for him not to interrupt then and there, going after the Insurrection with two untrained (well Creed was trained,) persons was a stupid, terrible, fucked up idea, and the fact that either of them had agreed to do it was infuriating.

While Mike should probably have been angry at Creed, he channeled all the anger and fear of loosing Creed into a strong dislike of Cat, and as Cat paused asking if there were any questions, the man interjected. "You did what? Are you a fucking idiot? Do you have a fucking death wish? Dragging Creed along on this suicide mission? You're-." His voice was was raised, his chest tight, and though he was able to cut himself off before saying anything he couldn't take back, he felt the need to wrap his hands around Cat's neck and slowly squeeze the life out of them.

His nails dug into his palm, knuckles white from the pressure he was exposing them to with his clenched fists. The only thing grounding him in the moment, keeping him from losing his cool entirely, was the sharp pain in his hands.

[div style="width: 260px; min-height: 270px; font-size: 12px; text-align: justify; color: #000"]Cat was back. The NPC that brought her the news got a startled look from her. Why wouldn't they just come see her? She stood up, suddenly worried, when the NPC elaborated. She was supposed to get their box of bandannas and necklaces and other markers and bring it to the casino. A meeting? Now? The urgency did nothing to soothe her concerns, but she headed over to Cat's house and picked up the parcel, then followed the NPC to the casino.

There they were, sprawled out on their back on a billiard table. Even from the entrance she could tell that they were hurt very badly indeed. The box nearly slipped out of her hands, but Molly managed to keep her grip on it as she walked over to them. "Scott are you -" She was cut off by the Boss holding up a bandaged arm. "I'm fine." Their voice was firm, but she knew them too well to miss the weariness and tightness to it. "I'll explain in a minute. Put the box down." Reluctantly she set the box next to them and retreated a few steps. As much as she wanted to mother them right now, she knew they'd react badly to it.

"Did I miss any joiners?" She shook her head, then realized they wouldn't be able to see from where they were laying down. "No." They shifted a little and visibly winced. "Good, good. Anything else?" She wondered why they were asking her, not Gavril or Mordecai. Those were the people that they had left in charge, after all. Maybe she was just more convenient in the moment. She pursed her lips. "No." A faint smile twisted its way onto their features. "Know any other words?" Well. At least they hadn't gotten their humor beaten out of them. "No." They scoffed, smile growing for a moment before a long sigh escaped their lips. At least they were amused by the situation.
