"liv, you need to go, you need to go now." he quickly wiped away the tears of the fifteen year old brunette, trying to calm her down. she was scared, terrified, and finn knew why but she needed to go so she wouldn't get hurt anymore. "you need to get as far away from here as possible. i want you safe okay? and you aren't safe here. please, go."
"no, finn. not without you! come with me, please. you are no safer here than i am. i'm not leaving without you." his heart broke because he knew olivia meant every single word of that and he took a deep breath. he knew, to protect her and ollie and, hell, even chris, he had to stay. he had to take all the pain just to keep them from dealing with what he had to go through. he'd take as much pain as humanly possible as long as he knew that those he cared for wouldn't be hurt anymore. he couldn't have her hurt anymore. every time he looked at her, she reminded him of ollie, the scared freshman he had brought into this world by accident and then got out a year ago.
he didn't want to lie to her, he hated lying to those he loved, but he had no choice. if she wasn't going to go unless he did too, he'd have to make her believe he was going to get out. so, finn slowly nodded his head and pulled her into a tight hug and kissed the top of her head. his eyes were tearing up and his breathing shaky. he briefly closed his eyes and blinked away he tears so olivia wouldn't see him break down knowing he wouldn't be able to go with her. he still had ollie and chris to protect and he couldn't do that if he went away with olivia.
"alright, alright. i'll get out but you need to go now. you need to run. you need to go now. i'll find you, i promise."
the small brunette girl clung to him a little longer. "i love you finn, i'll see you soon." his heart broke on the inside knowing that she wouldn't, knowing that he had already broken the promise before it even exited his lips. but, as long as she was safe, she could be mad at him all she wanted if they ever saw each other again. but that.. that was a biggest if in the world.
"i love you too olivia, now go. don't look back."
he held on just a moment longer, placed one last kiss on her head, and pulled back, watching her go. he said a little prayer to the higher power he didn't believe in, begging to keep his little olivia safe from any other harm.
finn was just getting used to the new job, his first real job ever. it was weird. his day was actually on a schedule unlike the past four years when everything was a mess and a disaster.
but now… now he felt like he was actually doing something with his life. finn felt important because he was helping chris out with the rent and with getting food and just paying for things again. chris didn’t have to work as many hours and they had actually gotten a bigger apartment to accommodate their growing animal family since finn had finally convinced chris to get a service dog due to the growing anxiety and panic attacks that chris was having. cosmo had officially joined their little family alongside petunia and toffee. it was perfect, absolutely perfect. they were happy. four years later and they were happy and not fighting.
but here he was, working in an actual office. sure, it wasn’t like actual doing the like big stuff but he was an assistant and was making decent money and finn enjoyed waking up and getting ready with chris and putting on a nice shirt and pants and the final checks to make sure they both looked presentable for work.
today was like any other ordinary day, sending some emails, getting coffee for his boss, and sitting in on meetings and taking notes in slightly scribble-esque handwriting. finn said hello with a bright smile and green eyes that glinted with a tinge of happiness. it was hard work some days, stressful others, but finn truly enjoyed his job. it was nice to be needed and turned to for help even for something as small as needed grabbing something off a printer or more coffee. the small minuscule tasks made him feel on top of the world because he wasn’t used to it, to the joy of being needed.
finn was walking towards the office and must’ve turned his head to say hello to one of his coworkers when he stopped in his tracks, confused by a familiar looking head of hair. he wasn’t for certain if it was her. there was no way it could be her. he hadn’t seen her in almost four years. how could she be here? no, his mind was tricking him. there were plenty of girls with long and curly brunette hair. there was no way that could be her.
but then, then she turned her head for just a moment and he knew that smile. he could pick that smile and those eyes out of a crowd. it was her. should he call out to her? should he avoid her? was she still mad at him for lying? would she be happy that he's still around? his mind was jumbling with all these questions, stressing him out. he closed his eyes and started counting silently back from ten to calm himself down, a habit chris had taught him instead of him digging his nails into the palms of his hands, which now had crescent shaped scars.
finn couldn't hold himself back anymore. he set his stuff down on the nearest table and walked over to her, wrapping his arms around her. he scooped her up off the ground and spun her around. the girl seemed to be nervous at first, uncertain of who had picked her up. "olivia, i've missed you so much."
he set her down, and those familiar eyes looked up at him and lit up. the shorter girl wrapped her arms back around him and finn could feel the tears in his eyes, squeezing her tightly, never wanting to let her go again or let her slip away.
"oh my god, finn! i never thought i'd see you again. oh my god, i didn't know if you were still alive or not. holy shit, finn."
finn could hear the shakiness in her voice and he pulled back and looked down at her, wiping the tears in her eyes away. he carefully ran his fingers through her hair and kissed her forehead a bunch of times. some of their coworkers were staring but finn didn't mind. he hadn't seen olivia in almost four years. he remembered her as that wide-eyed, scared little fifteen year old uncertain of how she ended up in that world.
"i never thought i'd see you either. i'm so glad you're okay."
so, they stood there for a good five minutes, continuously whispering soft and gentle i missed you's and i'm so glad you're okay's over and over. the last time they saw each other, they were scared for their lives, in tears because they were saying goodbye. but now? now, they were seeing each other, with better lives, in tears because they had found each other again.
"i'm never letting go ever again." "neither am i."
