Windswept plains peppered with heather, bluebells and cowslips provide essential grazing ground for the herds of bison that traverse the territory--along with the numerous wild rabbit warrens. Hawks soar the skies, searching for rodents--both wild and tamed birds of prey fly here. there are no fences, but furred yurts closely dot one another--elk hides keep these homes warm and skillfully worked birch keeps the tents stable in wind and rain. Communal fires are not only used for cooking, but smoke signals are used when members of the group are separated for any reason.

the prairie eventually gives way to a hesitant treeline, and the mild woodlands of deciduous and coniferous trees are a bountiful resource. trappers and hunters make their living in these woods, as well as foragers who collect many herbs and plants from both the prairie and the forest to cook or heal with.

the elk and deer of the forest provide fur for yurts as well as clothing, and leather hides can provide excellent light protection. this group doesn't frown on scavenging from the modern sources, such as tee shirts, jeans, or other manufactured goods that can be found--but being self-reliant and sustainable with what they have readily available is a powerfully-held belief. While they would never refuse the assistance of anti-biotics or diesel fuel, knowing how to survive in the post-modern world is essential; and they see it as a strength.

[b]TERRITORY :
the territory the Riders call home is vast; for while they are no expansive kingdom, their way of life dictates a need to roam. they are semi-nomadic--ergo staying within the bounds they have set for themselves, but moving from plateau to plain to forest's edge, hunting and setting the herds to pasture on fresh grass. the expanse is mainly a large prairie, bordered to the north by a mixed deciduous-pine forest, through which leads to the mountain on which Flintlock Lodge resides.

The prairie is the lower portion of a vast expanse of shrubland and plains which, on the west and south of the central prairie, gives way to moorland, hilly with no trees. Large yurts are scattered close together, both for sleeping and housing specific supplies and specialists. The horses are kept within fences built around the yurts to separate the pastureland from the small hamlet of tents. The bison they herd are still semi-wild, and while the riders protect their young and will take care of any predators, the animals themselves are still let free to roam. There is a plan for them to have sheep and goats which will be more domesticated, but that has not yet come into play.

FOREIGN RELATIONS :

Johannes is determined to keep the Riders a positive force in the world, forging alliances with those who value peace and protecting children, families, and all innocents. He is more internally focused on protecting those within his own group, than being the aggressor in situations--however, should an ally fall under attack, he would consider it cowardly to leave them without aid.

Individuals: They allow anyone to join.

[b]HIGH POSITIONS :

LEADERSHIP

-Boss: The 'final say', essentially. His words carry more weight only when a deciding vote is needed.
-Johannes Angelicus, played by Firebird

-Council: Those who have proven themselves, in battle, diplomacy, or other feats of accomplishment and dedication, earn a place to have a similar level of leadership as the boss; delegating work, organizing and giving orders, etc.

SPECIALIZATION: These ranks are often coinciding with council, as to be considered the master of any special area, one must have already proven dedication and accomplishment. However, there can only be one master of a trade at a time; they often mentor others interested in the craft.

-Apothecary: A member of the Riders who has shown exceptional expertise over the medicinal plants and healing techniques.

-Horsemaster A member of the Riders who is an expert at both riding, caring for, and fighting on horseback.

-Weaponsmith This Rider has proven expertise crafting weapons such as blades and crossbows.

-Forester This Rider is considered the expert at trapping, hunting, and navigating in the woodlands that border much of their home.

THE RIDERS' LAW & TRADITIONS :

--Above all else, the riders are practical, moral, and survivalists. Protecting their home and their families comes first and foremost. Traitors to their safety will be banished at best.

--As you might expect, injuring, robbing, or abusing in any way another member of the group is not permitted, and depending on the severity, the punishment may range from confiscation of weapons to complete exile.

--There is no execution under any circumstances; the only killing considered appropriate is when defending against attacks or raids on themselves, OR if they have decided raiding another group is the only way to protect themselves. In raids, they do not under any circumstance kill those who are children, injured, old, sick, etc; only those who are of fighting age and engage. Even so, killing is not encouraged--the purpose of such raids is only ever to warn.

--Meals tend to be communal, eaten in the large tent that serves as a meetinghouse and a kitchen. There are numerous fires and ovens outside, made of stone or mud bricks, but the majority of stored food and supplies are kept in the main tent.
