They came by night. Carefully tinted cars and only under the cover of nightfall, flocks of students and somewhat worried parents that still hovered about their children like the oversized bats they were. Today was the day, where everyone gathered, and their year away from home began. Where everyone could be safe from the humans. Where they could act normal. Fangs were easy to see in the crowd of bloodless beings, glinting as some laughed, grinned, spoke. Sharp and dangerous. Perfect for puncturing throats. Not that anybody even did that anymore. The fangs were sharp for a reason, nobody used them, because nobody had chance to. Too much fear about being found out forced the children of the night to almost ridiculous methods of getting their blood fix in. As the blonde vampire stood in the crowd of parents and children, he could feel his own fangs slipping out, brushing his bottom lip lightly. Sharp, well taken care of. And never actually used for their purpose, unfortunately.
As Lukas Dante shouldered his backpack and went to the trunk of his parent's car, he could hear the soft goodbyes between parents and children. Promises to be safe, to learn lots. To avoid stupid dares. To stay out of the sun, to make sure they were well fed. Be good little vampires, don't do what you're born to do because otherwise, you might never see us again. The silent words hung over the parents and children. Especially this school year, under the circumstances of this particular school year. Even now, Lukas could see the intense blue eyes of his father staring him down, his mother standing next to him with her pale pinkish eyes, her blonde hair ruffled from the open window. He could his his father's voice, stern, quiet, but deadly.
"Don't kill them."
The echo seemed to resonate among the crowds, the slight whisper and then people leaving. Pulling out his two suitcases and waving a goodbye to his parents, Lukas made his way into the crowd, towards the building. He'd get all his stuff together, and then see if he could find people he knew from years back. As this was his last year, he'd most likely see everybody he knew walking down the halls. He'd miss the classes and the atmosphere. Perhaps he might join on as a teacher or something in the future. Whatever.
A nervous habit of Lukas's was chewing on his lip. Often, he ended up stabbing himself, but since no blood came out, it wasn't like it bothered him too much. It happened though, his fangs sliced neatly into his bottom lip. It'd heal pretty quickly, so he didn't have too many worries. Blue eyes scanned the crowd once more, trying to see if he could pick out the humans. Apparently, there were three of them. That was easy enough to notice in a sea of undead vampires, right? Who knew. Shrugging, the blonde chose to wheel his suitcases towards his doom building, pausing in the main hallway to get his keys.
Another year had begun.
