— born to alessandria and john michaels in lincoln, nebraska in a southern style ranch house with plenty of land. immediately you could note the blandness of it all. your nearest neighbor being a five minute walk at the least and with alessandra’s struggle with her pregnancy with oliver in the first place, her maternal instinct only seems to increase as the young boy ages. while many gives their child a bit of freedom, oliver is not even in school when he’s old enough.

— he met his friend, gabriel, when he was seven years old alone coloring in his iron man coloring book and minding his business. gabriel knocked on his window and against his better judgement, he opened it and from then on oliver became hooked. everything was about oliver whenever he did talk to his parents. gabriel used to live with him but always wanted to stay on oliver’s bed (which concerned alessandria and john to come in and see their son laying on the floor) but finally settled for their huge ass shed which is basically a barn where they keep their two horses sprinkles and apollo

— also has a dog named cloudy, a border collie. parents attempted to give her to oliver to his fourth birthday so he had company but cloudy ended up becoming attached to her mother and although cloudy does give him attention, it isn’t nearly to the same extent.

— became extremely attached to peanut butter sandwiches due to the fact before his mother goes to work, she leaves it at his doorstep with little notes for him of encouragement such as “have a good day (:” and he thinks that it’s because they’re just good but its because his subconscious has developed an emotional attachment to the notes and without them, there wouldn’t really be any form of connection to his parents due to his lack of ability to communicate

— if anything, his parents keeping him withdrawn has made him even more withdrawn but he claims it’s due to gabriel, whom is basically the only person he’ll talk to. he refuses to talk to strangers, but that’s because his mother has stressed that rule onto him and even with them, he barely says anything but two words. gabrielle is his only exception and to him, he likes it that way.

— parents gave him a vcr tapes and a tv box. he has plenty of ones espdcially from the 90s but his favorite movie of all is definitely all dogs go to heaven and all dogs go to heaven 2. he wishes to be like charlie and probably is the type of kid to pray to God to send him a doggo guardian exactly like charlie he thinks he’s really cool

— drowning in striped shirts and oversized hoodies only 99% of the time. has a whole bubch of baseball caps.

— if anyone is nearly his friend next to gabriel it has to be Mr. Doyer, who moved into the neighborhood three years back and opened up a shop. He admires the kid’s imagination and quite often, sees him when oliver comes to the store to buy his mom something and more excitingly, something for himself.

— beyond what he knows, anything else outside, especially human interaction is absolutely terrifying to him. Many people think that a kid doesn’t need to be shielded from the world the way he does, especially at ten years old (or sometimes eight), but he likes it thst way due to the way that his mother stresses that there are people and other things out to get him (she doesn’t tell him this of course, but moreso john as she obsessively watches bad news about missing children until she’s paranoid)

— so uh there is definitely an tragic au where gabriel is not actually an imaginary friend but a ghost who died in a barn fire back in like 2005 and was waiting for someone like oliver to come along and be his friend which he is now and it’s so sad yet so pure and asdfghjkl
