↳ Their crossed eyes are not genetic and were caused because of a head injury in their youth; it does not greatly affect their vision but it does cause depth perception issues. It is very difficult for them to tell how far a drop is and they have hurt themselves in past because they misjudged the length of a fall and fallen wrong.

90% HEALTH | Oleander is a fairly healthy young feline, their physical well-being only marred by the many fights they've managed to get themselves involved in during their youth. However, the same cannot be said for their mental or emotional health as they seem to be very underdeveloped and thus struggle with many issues relating to them.
↳ Oleander has a disorder known as Intermittent Explosive Disorder (IED), which is often categorized with explosive outbursts of anger and violence often bordering on rage. Many of these outbursts are disproportionate to the situation that induced the anger and can cause changes in mood, tension, energy and behavioral actions.

Anti-hero & The Snark Knight & Wise Beyond Their Years | Ollie is, by no means, someone whom you would actually find yourself wanting to spend extended periods of time around. She is not someone you would consider a friend, a lover, a family member — no, she is someone you just... wouldn't want in the first place. He is blunt and cruel, unafraid to push the boundaries of others or to put them or their beliefs down; a bully, of sorts, you could say. Positivity is not something they are very familiar with as they have never believed in the idea of false hope, of making people believe they can do the impossible when it is clearly not logical. In a sense they are just brutally honest — they don't lie because they don't find the point in doing so, they have no filter and are unafraid to speak things that others shy away from. It may likely be one of their best qualities, the fact that they simply refuse to lie or just do not care enough to give anyone anything but the truth no matter how disturbing it may be. Oleander is an incredibly emotionally stunted person, often times being unable to pinpoint or control their own emotions; that being said, their lack of understanding of emotions filters into how they function with others and simply their inability to really make connections with others. The only real emotion that they understand is anger, blind and uncontrollable rage that has built up inside them for so long that they often explode and hurt those around him either physically or verbally. It is very likely that she has anti-social personality disorder because she is just very... apathetic towards others? She struggles socially because she can't make emotionally connections or read nonverbal cues which has led to her downright inability to filter into social structures and properly make healthy relationships with peers. In his own way he understands his lack of social skills and has taken to ignoring them, simply deciding to push others away and closing himself off so he does not need to deal with this problem at all; he's just... uncaring, he just has decided that if he doesn't know how he is simply not going to learn. That being said, it is also difficult to become close to Oleander because if they don't understand the emotion they believe it is not real — that everything people put forth that isn't anger or hatred is simply a mask to get what you want, they do not believe in genuine emotions. Anger and hatred they thrive in, they can control a situation by infuriating and antagonizing others because they know what's happening but affection or kindness is instantly met with skepticism and aggression. They don't believe anyone does anything for others without expecting something back, all these positive emotions or actions are not real — again, to rephrase, it is not that they do not believe they deserve kindness but that it isn't real. It's faked. They are beyond negative (Although, believe themselves a realist) and are outwardly aggressive, they have no problems showing it either; regardless of status, age, or any other variable Oleander will not hesitate to be brutal or cruel. They are easily agitated and have absolutely no control over their rage and have been known to engage in fights with others even if the problem is not serious at all. He is a highly intelligent feline, mature beyond his years because of the way in which he was raised and how painfully fast he was thrust into adulthood; he was alone and broken, he did the only thing he knew how to do and that was to harden and learn. Ollie is a downright cruel and mean person but, in a way, they are a product of their environment and are now only trying to cope in the one way that they know how — not to excuse their actions of course, they simply see everyone around them as factors of their own abuse and feel entitled to their anger.

— tagged cat, meaning that they sort of come from a lab? not really, they were trained in how to live in the wild and basically their one job is to filter into feline society so that humans can study the behavior of wild cats. said humans have no want to interfere but simply wish to watch. think of it kind of like a tracking device that you would see on a meerkat on meerkat manner except more blue and placed inside of the skin on the cat's head.

riverclan probably, i have to figure out an age for them which... is hard, they'll likely be innocent yet highly intelligent; ignorantly wise? they sound smart but they don't understand or recognize a lot in nature after spending basically all their life in a lab nursery being studied and trained to at least be able to survive in the wild.

— note, an idea i had a long time ago because ollie fucking despises clans is if (and i mean if because the likelihood of ollie ever becoming a warrior are slim to none) they refuse it completely, they either continue to keep the name oleanderpaw until they die even though they are a warrior. that or they just drop the suffix altogether and just absolutely refuse to take a suffix at all and demand to just be known as "oleander". that or, well, they stay an apprentice for the rest of their life.

however, demanding to remain oleanderpaw at a naming ceremony sounds pretty dramatic and tbh i think i might go with that because ollie says "fuck the system" whenever possible.

old headcannons
— oleander becoming addicted to mint because they like how it makes them feel; that or some kind of other herb because addiction to these things are common but try to stay away from catnip. i really like the idea of mint because it's supposed to hide the scent of death which probably has some weird psychological effect on ollie. that and if eaten in high quantities it is not lethal but can cause some very serious stomach pain. also, another good one is tansy or thyme which can help with anxiety which also fits ollie surprisingly well? he could easily become addicted to the way that it finally starts to calm him down and he just can't stop once he's started because he likes the feeling of not being constantly a lit fuse but it could probably get to the point where he's literally making himself sick.
— i always liked the idea of ollie wanting to become a medicine cat because she could basically learn no other skills and it would be nice to have a medicine cat/apprentice that is just a total douche and just downright thinks starclan is a hoax.

— new note about appearance: alongside the tag/tracker deviant should also wear one of the ear clips that marks the animal as a wildlife tracked animal. it would kind of be like the thing you would see on cattle but a lot smaller and also clipped—painfully—to the thicker meat of the ear in order to prevent it from being immediately ripped out.

THE EXPERIMENT while i originally wanted the project to be about tracking the movements of wild animals (cats) that's apparently not going to happen so i've had to modify what exactly the humans are studying with deviant. well, since devi was raised by humans/in a lab their entire life it could have something to do with how people believe you can't release captivity raised animals into the wild because they won't be able to defend/feed themselves; which, actually sounds like a really good idea and one that is both plausible and more restrained than tracking migration patterns. the humans could want to study what would happen if they were able to train a house-cat/lab-cat in very basic survival skills and then release it into a controlled patch of wilderness (i.e. the fields outside of the city) or an area that seems to have a high population of cats sighted. all they want to know is if deviant could a.) survive and b.) manage to thrive (data could possibly be collected through the microchip / the cat's general location could be tracked but they probably wouldn't know exact location because of satellite interference or something). the main part here is they don't want to interact with the cat; once they've figured out if the project is successful or collected how long the feline has managed to stay alive they want to turn to releasing wild animals.

this could also cause a big issue with deviant because... they were happy being a kitty-pet and while they understand it's important that they stay alive they are constantly struggling with this desire to just go back to be a captive cat. they aren't fond of learning to be wild and probably look down on the wild cats by insulting or calling them "feral" or "mutts" or something of the like. not because their an asshole but more like they see it as an unarguable fact.

— 12-15 pounds; around 14 inches in length. Lean and lithe, they are better suited for running.
— Fur is a soft light brown (with mackerel tabby patters), short in length. Clean and well kept.
— Eyes are almost comically large and are a deep and beautiful chocolate brown. Doe-eyed.
↳ They are a tagged cat used for experimental purposes, meaning that they are chipped and tagged in order to keep people from interacting with them and to help researches keep track of their survival progress. They currently have three forms of identification, although one of them is unlikely to last very long due to it's impracticality for clan life and respect. The first, and largest, is a large dark-blue tracking collar that allows researching scientists gather both Devi's general location; it acts largely as a sign to avoid touching or interacting with the feline. The second is a large ear tag that is poked through the middle of their left ear, this one is more for identification than anything else, telling scientists or passerbys that the cat is owned, tagged and where it belongs—almost like a piercing of collar tags, if I am to explain it in any other way. The final and most important is a circular plastic tag attached to the skin of the right side of the feline's forehead, it is internally attached to a data collecting microchip that, once scanned, can provide data to scientists but is also used to monitor Devi's status (whether they are alive, stressed or various other situations). The cat's current identification number is RK800, project "Wildlife Release".

100% HEALTH | Deviant is a relatively healthy feline and after spending most of their life in the care of humans it is true that they have been vaccinated for serious feline diseases; meaning, that they are less likely to contract (obvious) life-threatening diseases. However, they have had few experiences where they were in contact with minor illnesses and are more likely to contract a common cold and to become violently ill quickly—an irritating win-lose kind of situation.
↳ There is one thing that sets Deviant and wild cats apart aside from their very obvious appearance and that is the fact that they are both neutered and declawed. They do not have the ability to reproduce and are actually less interested in other cats who exhibit signs of heat and are less territorial than others. Now, being declawed has made their job of survival a lot harder as they have had to learn a new way to hunt and fight instead of being able to use their claws. However, they've made do and still have their back claws intact which has made the transition somewhat easier than what many may think.

I Did What I had to Do & Badass Adorable & Extreme Doormat | Deviant is something of a mess personality wise, as if they themselves have absolutely no idea who they are; a statement, which, is honestly fairly true. For most of their lives they've followed a strict schedule and fairly enjoyed following orders from humans, a habit that has been hard to break despite their newfound freedom; they crave stability and the quiet life that being a kitty-pet brought—they are easily overwhelmed by the amount of choices they can now make. Along with that, due to their kitty-pet lifestyle Devi has a deep desire to please others and they feel that if they aren't doing things for others, being useful, then that means that they are worthless, that they mean nothing. While they hide it incredibly well, they can become easily depressed and disappointed if they feel they aren't good enough or if they feel like they have failed those around them. Failure does not sit well with them and as such they are violently goal oriented and will do absolutely anything to ensure that they do not fail because failure means that someone is upset with them which also means that they are worthless. Devi is not a bad person but they are not above doing vile acts in order to ensure that they accomplish a goal and they are not proud of that fact, however, it is something that they cannot change (which, could possibly pose as possible OCD tendencies). Let it be known that they are highly, highly intelligent and extremely quick to learn and to master and speak with such a grace that it can often come off as pompous or pretentious despite the fact that they are just speaking in the only way that they know how to. Now, regardless of their intelligence Devi is somewhat child-like, innocent in a way that many others have lost during the fight for survival; being locked in a cage all their life as left them lacking in a lot of knowledge of the natural outside world and in social cues. They are ignorant, I suppose. They are not stupid, they simply lack a lot of knowledge that cats born wild inherently gain throughout their life and Devi is struggling desperately to catch up with them—both because of their love of learning and because they despise being left behind. This makes them terribly naive, quick to believe in the kindness of others and unknowing of their often cruel or manipulative intentions; their daftness in social cues and trustfulness often leads to them misinterpreting certain things, or taking everything far too literal. After all, if you don't mean it exactly as you say it then why say it at all? Devi has a tendency to sound fake or scripted, like they aren't being completely genuine despite the fact that they are desperately trying to fit in and assimilate into the masses they just... don't exactly know how to.
