ok ok help with thread making.

so...last five threads ive made have either never gotten to the rp being made or the rp only lasted like one or two pages, most of the posts in said rp thread being just track posts or bumps anyway.

and really the same goes for threads ive joined but havent made. it seems to be a recurring issue lately, ive seen this on feralfront, crittercosmos, here, pretty much anywhere, and im wondering what to do about it.

do people just get muse for plotting, and then lose it as soon as the time comes to actually post? i dont think it can JUST be school bc this is something ive seen happening over say the last year, including summer and other school breaks. and i want to know if anyone has advice on how to actually get into it. fewer people? Starting threads sooner? im not sure but i hate making characters or coming up with plots and then never getting to write posts.

i don't know if I can offer much help but-
honestly i think maybe it's the time and plotting that kills off roleplays. what i mean by that is, that after quite a bit of time has passed on the sign ups (which slowly kills muse, i think), people tend to post the plotting thread before the roleplay. I've noticed when that happens, people spend their time chit chatting away about their characters and it grows into a long-ass mess of personal plot that is difficult to read through. If another person were to come along in the middle of it, i doubt they would be able to fit in smoothly with all the inner relationships happening.
i digress, of course. i believe that people spend all their muse plotting personal development instead of actually writing the roleplays in a group thread, and it eventually kills off what was once a good thread and story to begin with.
maybe creating the roleplays sooner, and letting it start before a plotting thread is made, will help things get going? idk, that's my two cents.

yeah!! tysm tbh thats something i sorta hae thought about and often when ppl are like 'ill make the plotting thread soon!' i kinda groan bc like i lOVE plotting but at the same time i worry bc like i think its probably not gonna last

so i think when i make threads im gonna just do signups and rp
i might even try to do it so i make them both at the same time, but open the rp thread after a few ppl have signed up?

yeah, i think fox kinda hit the nail on the head, i think the problem is too much plotting.

i think it comes out of like, the way people do plotting threads now... it isn't really a plotting thread, not really. the reason people like them so much and they're so addictive to write and respond to is because the plotting threads, the way they're set up is basically... a not-so-advanced roleplaying thread. because people go through, in detail, events that occur and how they start and finish, interactions, dialogue, and even stuff down to like, gestures and character internal dialogue. it's actually fast-paced, less advanced roleplaying, which burns people out on muse for the often slower paced, advanced threads.

tbh i've think the answer to getting more active threads is finding a medium... shorter posts in the advanced realm so people can reply faster and less plotting so people don't burn muse.

yEAH i agree it definitely is fun and its definitely like rping

at least considering that its p much exactly how i rp with ppl on skype and stuff

so it uses up muse

and its SO quick and easy

okay!! yeah honestly i want to make threads and my posts arent super long anymore like they used to, they're about 100-200 which isnt tiny but its not huge either, and i like that so maybe thats enough??

i think it would be interesting to try and make a thread without a plotting thread

like... plotting is mostly, legitimately used to figure out character relations between characters so you know how they interact with each other, but i was thinking
there are ways you could include that inside the form
like, maybe in the form you have to connect your character to at least one other character in the thread
and have a second in the form for that

and maybe, at least on the main thread (with an allowance of side threads being longer because it wouldn't effect the overall thread) having a word limit of like, 500-800 words or something

also if you have a specific thread idea, i'll always be interested in giving a helping hand
