hi i'm here to feel stuff maybe
when this r e p e t i t i o n ends behind the window shades, a
semi-conscious sorrow sleeping in the bed I've made —— that most unrestful bed, that most original of
sins, and you'll say that's what I get when I let
ambition win again. I'd hate to let you [sub]down,[/sub] so I'll let the
waters [sup]rise[/sup] and
drown my dull reflection in the
naïve expectation in your eyes. back in a cast bit-part, back when I felt most
free, I had a
butcher's / heart and no-one
thought they knew me . . . . . .

it was almost midnight.
"there's so much more to feel at night." soothing, dark tones that seemed almost there, but not quite. eloise had learned that the voice was relaxed now. she was reminded of a mysterious unseen cat as she spoke across the room.
her not-ghost-but-still-a-ghost friend had shown his face, but sometimes he preferred to hide (in ghost fashion) in the walls, or the mirror. right now, they were in total darkness, and she could sense he was settled on the couch across from where she now sat.
"i'd like to argue against that." eloise responded, pushing her messy blonde locks out of her face and pulling a face. "daylight is warm. you can see the birds in the sky. you don't need flashlights or phone backlights to walk."
her tone turned softer, but still pointed. "in the light, you don't have to hide-"
"in the light," the ghost interrupted, a cold in his voice that eloise hated to hear, "you cannot hide."
an awkward silence. the relaxed ghost was gone, and she almost felt guilty for breaking that illusion.
"you can't survive in the dark forever." eloise's voice was barely more than a whisper.
her ghost let out a long, resigned sigh, sad and tense and filled with memories and feelings that eloise would never know.
"it's all i've ever known."
