/ sort of doubles as an intro post, so the last paragraph is where the action is! this might be edited at any point, most likely for grammar!!
they were all gone, missing from their place. the radiation had been too much. one by one, the entire hidden kingdom faded away. every house was empty and still reeked of chemicals. perhaps it was best for the little villages they called a group that the king and queen went last. but with their deaths, as they passed laying in their own sick, a child was left behind. once upon a time, it was okay.
adrianna and alexander had been the typical medieval royals – her father chose him to be with her, but unlike the stories, she did not resist. alex had been kind and sweet to her, and she returned it. their lives meant nothing but waving at subjects and royal decrees and fancy dinners until the war began. as their kingdom fell into chaos, faraway blasts sounding off to and fro, they tried their best to calm the panic-struck animals. radiation sickness did that for them. once upon a time, she was called stunning, and he was called noble.
their child was not spared. he had been born in the midst of fallout, and the first thing he heard when his ears opened was the sound of distant war. the chemicals had already seeped into his mother’s womb, however, before he was born, and it had affected him. chemicals had prevented him from getting the nutrients he needed to grow, ripping them away. once upon a time, there was a dwarf.
when his parents died, he had been left there in a makeshift castle in the middle of a ghost town. so the toddler had made his way out of the castle, and out of that hidden little village, into the side of the mountain. perhaps the town had been farther down, and so the radiation had hit them harder there, but for the first time in his life he was breathing fresher air. once upon a time, he had his first breath of freedom.
he dragged his soft paws on the rocks, feeling the friction beneath him. traversing the rough slope, as he neared the other animals, he heard their voices among the quiet dead. his ears perked up, and he began to pad swiftly towards them, his nose soon filling with the scent of panic. once upon a time, he had been thrust into a new scene, where radiation fought animals and the wilderness was rising.
bub arrived at the place where most of them had gathered, his blue optics glancing around nervously. he didn’t want to be afraid, but everyone around him must’ve had some type of fear in them. they had all lost something, or everything, and though he didn’t know it, they were all pulling together to survive. as new creatures bustled around him, he began to pull himself towards the end of the crowd. ”hello?” he called, attempting to go near the supposed leader of the group. ”does anyone need help? i can... i might be able to help?” these were strangers, but they were weakened by radiation and seemed kind enough. most likely they would not harm him, and they needed help, so maybe he could provide some of it, right?
