- born in santa monica, california to a couple that married shotgun because of him. they had only known each other for a couple of weeks, quite truthfully, but both of them didn't want to have their child grow up in two different households, so they did what any "sane" couple would do and got married
- despite marrying so early into their relationship and having a child way before they planned to, they all made the most of it. they were madly in love, from the moment they were engaged to the moment remy was born, they were so in love and that never seemed to end
- neither did their love for adventure. they were young, they were bold, they were antsy. so from the moment that remy was born, he was already whisked away on his first trip. and his first trip was a backpacking tour throughout europe
- the three of them didn't return home to santa monica for the next three years, since they were off exploring the world, and from a very early age, remy was introduced to a bunch of different cultures and experiences and languages. actually, he didn't learn english until they got back, mainly since his parents wanted to be fully immersed into the culture
- even when they got back, they barely stayed for three months in order for remy to be introduced to relatives before they made the biggest commitment ever, aside from getting hitched after three weeks and having a kid: they all moved to europe, spain, specifically
- he was raised in spain for most of his life, and then they moved to japan when he was sixteen so he got to spend most of his high school life there. contrary to most kids and teens, he didn't really mind moving, rather, he was surprised to see that his parents were 1.) still together and 2.) willing to even stay in one spot for remy to get a proper education
- he grew up with nearly everything he wanted, and it wasn't due to the fact that his family was rich or anything, they worked as hard as anyone else did, but it was out of their love for him that they even tried for him
- they all moved back to the states when remy was applying for college, since remy truly did want to be closer to his other relatives, and he had a feeling that his parents thought the same, otherwise they wouldn't have followed him back to santa monica

- kind of shy when you first meet him and he kind of plays this whole "bad boy" persona since he thinks it makes him look cooler when really, he looks like an adorable kid playing dress up. but either way, it's hard to get to know him in the beginning, but it's easier if people persist
- pretty much a "nerd" though honestly, he loves video games and reading comic books and manga and watching anime and everything people consider to be lame or whatever. he doesn't really care and he's really confident about it all. besides, he's cute and that makes up for basically everything
- genuinely enjoys getting to know people. he's more of a listener than a talker and doesn't mind those who ramble, rather, he thinks it's pretty cute and he will honestly avidly listen to whatever they have to say
- confident, but also not. he puts up a brave, strong face to the public and always sticks up for himself and others like he's not afraid do so to others but on his own? he has really low self-esteem and almost always doubts himself and everything he does. he never feels good enough
- tries to be as selfless as possible, he wants to always put everyone else before him, but that's just not humanly possible, no matter how much he could try. and every single time to he puts himself first, he feels like an awful person, so to avoid that, he just does what he can to aid others first
- much like his parents, remy loves traveling, like adventures and being outdoors and just going places is his favorite thing. he can't resist a good adventure and that's probably the best way to get on his good side, travel with him
- quite the optimistic person. like pessimism irritates him quite truthfully, he isn't a fan of those with their sole goal being to ruin other people's days and hopes and beliefs. he'd rather have them live in blissful ignorance, much like himself. this is a big reason why he doesn't like to watch the news

- remy was born with a speech impediment, so he tends to stutter at the beginning of his sentences and he can't properly pronounce his S's, they tend to sound like "th"

- honestly he's so adorable when he talks ab comics or manga or anime like he will g u s h to no end if it's one that he really really loves

- loves writing letters? honestly he will write his friends letters for the hell of it n bonus points to them if they write him one back. tbh he rarely texts people-- he'll actually email them unless it's like immediate response needed
- loves love. like he loves seeing people in love, seeing people n their lovers n whatever else. like he thinks it's the prettiest thing ever, people in love
- holds hands w/ everyone, like he and the other will be walking n oops somehow his hand is in theirs
- actually rlly bold when it comes to affection n relationships? he doesn't mind PDA, actually, he rlly enjoys it and he enjoys showering his partner in love n care n everything

- born in alexandria, virginia to a homeless woman by the name of evelyn. only two weeks after his birth, his mother was in a car accident in which a drunk driver hit her while she was crossing the street. due to losing his mother so early on, he doesn't really feel any sort of connection to her. he was raised in a women's shelter by his mother's closest friend there, jackie wu, who ended up adopting the role of his mother
- they stayed at the women's shelter up until cataline was five, in which jackie managed to scrap up enough money from her job and get them out of there and into a small one bed, one bath apartment in washington D.C. this allowed her to be closer to her work and also for cataline to walk to school, which was only five minutes from his home
- cataline could never get along with all the other kids in his school, while they already all had electronics since they were two and always had food on the table, cataline barely had a pencil to write with in school, much less a phone or an ipad or something. he was happy, but definitely not as well off as the other kids
- he was often made fun of when he was still in elementary school, for his name, for his scrawny build, for his home life, everything. he never let it get to him though, he was an extremely strong kid, even while his classmates were asking where his real mom was, why he had a girl's name
- things were particularly rough when he was in second grade, where his mom had taken up two extra shifts, making her only able to come home very late into the night. cataline ended up taking refuge with his teacher, mrs. ademe. she was a sweet lady who often watched over him in order to make sure that he was alright and doing okay. she was like the second parent that he never had in his life
- on the occasion, he would hang out at mrs. ademe's after school, who also ended up doubling as his babysitter from time to time. he would play with her kids, who were the same age as him and they would do whatever kids would do
- it was during the summer that he went to hang out at mrs. ademe's when he encountered mr. ademe for the first time. and that was probably when his world began to crumble. at first, they would all just hang out, cataline, mr. ademe and his two kids. they would play video games and eat pizza and do what they wanted whenever mrs. ademe wasn't home. it escalated to being given toys and food and money in exchange for staying quiet whenever he touched cataline
- it wasn't long before even that escalated to cataline being raped by him and being given twenty bucks for every single time it happened. he was even given a phone and new clothes. cataline didn't tell anyone, he couldn't. it scared him to think about it and he didn't want to trouble jackie or mrs. ademe, so he kept quiet, all the while trying to keep up appearances with mrs. ademe and reluctantly going over to hang out from time to time
- it was another two years before jackie had begun to suspect something was wrong, especially considering the fact that cataline had the latest iphone as well as new clothes swamping his closet and the extra twenties in the piggy bank
- it was a full year after jackie began prying when cataline finally told her. it was another year before the case went to trial, in which mr. ademe was ruled to be not guilty. "not enough evidence," is what was told, though the judge presiding had some ties to mr. ademe, who was a lawyer
- from there, cataline's life spiraled out of control, it was in middle school that he stopped caring. what was the point? his life was already ruined, people in his area had already figured out that he was the kid that they were talking about and none of them were all too sympathetic about his situation
- the only person he could talk to was jackie, who wasn't home all too often in the first place. instead, cataline had to fend for himself, whether it be from those who thought he was easy and molested him to those who thought he was weak and beat him up for it
- jackie didn't have it easy either, it was in high school that cataline came home to see her in shambles. she had been robbed and almost raped on the way home and that was really when cataline developed a protective stance for the women in his life, the people he cared about, really
- they ended up moving out of the area not long after, all the way to the west coast, in which cataline began to get his life together

- rough around the edges, he's all bark and no bite. he can come off as snappy or snarky when first meeting him, and he struggles to really open up to strangers. it takes a bit longer to get to know him, especially considering all that has happened in his past. slow and steady is the only way to get him to open up
- boisterous and excitable and impulsive around those he feels comfortable with, he becomes a complete ball of energy that people can't keep up with. he's always on the move, always doing something, he hates remaining stagnant for too long
- extremely pessimistic and somber when it comes to life and his future. it's always a matter of what's the point to him. he's lost any semblance of hope for himself, quite truthfully. this explains why he can be quite reckless and irresponsible on the occasion. in the end though, he doesn't really enjoy talking about himself
- very protective of those he loves, especially the women in his life who he always believes deserve better. he doesn't want to see the people around him getting hurt, especially not when he can prevent it in some way
- can come off as aggressive sometimes and this is due to how hot-headed he is. he can be ticked off easily from the smallest things, but as quickly as he can get angry, he is quick to calm down as well
- hates being told what to do, making him quite the rebellious kid. he was hopping fences and breaking into abandoned houses since he was in middle school, it's gonna take a lot more than a couple of signs to keep him out of places
- tends to be selfish without realizing it. he adopted the mentality of putting himself first after the court case against mr. ademe. it was then that he realized that no one was truly there to look out for him other than himself and if that was the case, than he damn well was going to take care of himself
- doesn't open up often, and especially not without some prying. taking about himself often triggers anger in him or causes him to just close up to people. it doesn't matter how close he is to him, being vulnerable is something cataline never wants to do ever. baring his soul to people is terrifying, much less trusting them with the information in it

- cataline struggles with depression, something that has never been diagnosed or treated, but considering him and how he carries about his life, it's pretty obvious that he has it. people around him often urge him to go see a therapist but he always denies it
- possibly also struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder, often has nightmares about his childhood, extremely hyper-vigilant whenever outdoors but again, he's never been diagnosed or treated for it

- loves astronomy, it's totally his shit ok like the moon is the love of his life, he could probs name all of the craters and point too tbh

- but hates singing in front of people, like he thinks his voice is gross so barely anyone hears him sing except for when he's in the shower
