They drove for what seemed like an few hours. Kiryu had ended up passing out in the car. It was dark out, so it was later on in the night. Nishiki soon pulled off the road onto a small dirt opening that led into a forest. He shut off the car, glancing at Kiryu. "Kiryu, wake up." He said. Kiryu groaned, opening his eyes and looking around. Where were they? A forest? Why here? He glanced over, spotting Nishiki get out of the car and moved away. He got out as well, looking around as he moved to stand beside Nishiki.
"Nishiki? Where are we?" Kiryu asked. Nishiki kept his gaze ahead.
"Dunno. I just kept driving." He said. He sighed, reaching into his pocket and taking out a pack of cigarets. He glanced at Kiryu. "Want one?" He asked. Kiryu nodded.
"Thanks." Kiryu said, taking out a cigaret and lit it. Nishiki blinked, moving away from Kiryu. Kiryu blinked, looking around at the forest before taking the cigaret and lowering it. He still wasn't sure why they were out in the forest. But he trusted Nishiki. He knew he'd let him know what's going on.
"Be sure to savor it...Brother." Nishiki said, his voice suddenly a bit more harsh then before. Kiryu blinked, frowning in confusion. He froze when he suddenly heard the familiar click of a gun being loaded and readied. "This is your last smoke. Make it count." Nishiki said.
"What are you doing?" Kiryu asked, keeping his back to Nishiki. "isn't this going a little too far for a prank?" Kiryu asked. Nishiki drew in a shaky breath, shifting a bit, keeping the gun pointed at Kiryu's head. "come on bro. Put that thing away." Kiryu said, turning to face Nishiki.
"Just stop!" Nishiki suddenly shouted, glaring at Kiryu. "It's too late! This is the only way!" Nishiki said. Kiryu was silent for a moment.
"Are these the family's orders, Nishiki?" Kiryu asked, looking ahead.
"They've got nothing to do with it." Nishiki said, his voice cracking a bit. He was silent for a beat. "Kiryu..." he murmured, "they're still pissed. They want you dead. The Dojima family is going to come after you. And they have the omit alliance in on this as well." Nishiki said. He released a shaky breath. "You know what they do to busy who fuck with the family?" He asked, his voice now getting a bit strained. "Dogma's crew are experts when it comes to making examples. They know exactly how bad you can torture a guy before he goes...and they make damn sure it lasts!" Nishiki said, his voice trembling and tears forming. "They'll keep you clinging on...Make it hurt bad, for as long as possible! Make you watch while they dissect you. Then, when they've broken the last little part of you...The bodies of these guys they find...You can't even tell they're human anymore!" Nishiki said.
"I can't let them do it Kiryu." Nishiki said, his hands shaking a bit. "I'm your sworn brother! I'm NOT watching you die like that!" Nishiki yelled. The two were silent for a few seconds. "That's what it means to cross the dojima family, Kiryu...Once they're after you, you can never be free!" Nishiki muttered."...At this point, I'm through as a yakuza too. But at least...At least I can keep you from dying in pain. I can end it for you, make it quick. That's all I can do..." Nishiki said, tears finally spilling from his eyes and his voice breaking.
Kiryu finally dropped the cigaret, slowly turning and facing Nishiki. The sight of his brother looking so torn broke his heart. But, what Nishiki said was true. That's all he could do. Kiryu didn't once look at the gun. He remained eye contact with Nishiki. "I'm sorry bro." Kiryu whispered. "It's my fault you're being put through this." Kiryu said, his voice soft. Nishiki suddenly let out a soft sob, hanging his head a bit, his hands trembling. Kiryu watched him sympathetically. "Brother, I've got one request." He said. Nishiki drew in a breath before meeting Kiryu's gaze again. "After you do this...Give my apologies to Majima. Tell him I'm sorry for breaking my promise to him. That he's going to be okay. Promise me." Kiryu said, watching him. Nishiki only gritted his teeth, fighting back another sob. Kiryu blinked. "It's up to you now." Kiryu said.
Nishiki stared at him before taking a few steps back, his hands shaking. "What the hell....Don't look at me! Don't look at me, Kiryu! Please!" Nishiki said through his tears. Kiryu narrowed his eyes, watching him.
"Man the fuck up and do it!" Kiryu said, watching him. "You can't get to the top by crying!". Nishiki's eyes widened before he gritted his teeth, closing his eyes. After a moment, Nishiki pulled the trigger. He released a breath, slowly opening his eyes. Kiryu was merely standing there, unphased. "What's the problem? Aim carefully! I'm not dead yet." Kiryu said.
Nishiki lowered the gun, dropping to his knees. "I can't do it...How could I shoot you?" He asked, suddenly breaking down. Kiryu watched, his face stoic of any emotion. "Without you, I'll always be nothing. I wouldn't even still be alive now if I didn't have you by my side!" Nishiki said through his tears. "I'm just...If you're not with me, I'm useless! Nothing means anything!" He said.
"Me too...We're the same." Kiryu said, meeting Nishiki's pained look. "We're both caught up in something way over our heads...Thinking we can die and make it all better." he whispered, watching him. Nishiki frowned, looking down.
"Look at me...Talking all cool about ending it quick for you. I'm so fucking...Pathetic." Nishiki whispered shakily. He was silent for a moment before looking up at Kiryu and slowly getting to his feet. "Kiryu, you and me, we could-"
"Nishiki." Kiryu said, cutting him off. He watched his fiend. He looked so broken. All Kiryu wanted to do was hug him. Tell him it was going to be alright. But he couldn't. He had to end this. Now. Before Nishiki got himself involved and hurt. "Forget you saw me today. I'll forget all of this too." Kiryu said. Nishiki only stared ay him, a bit confused.
"What?" He asked.
"I've gotta go." Kiryu said, starting to walk away from Nishiki.
"Where? What are you gonna..."
"Back to Kamurocho." Kiryu said. He frowned. "There's still work there I need to do." He said.
"You can't Kiryu...They'll kill you for sure!" Nishiki said.
"No...This is the life you just gave me. I'm going to see how far I can go with it." Kiryu said. He sighed, looking ahead. This was it. "Nishiki, let me do what I have to do.You and I end here. From this moment on...We are no longer sworn brothers." Kiryu said. He blinked. "I don't want you having anything to do with me." Kiryu said. He then started walking back to the city, his gaze ahead.
"Kiryu!" Nishiki suddenly shouted. Kiryu could hear how upset and hurt Nishiki was. But he couldnt turn back to him. He just kept walking back to the city.
"Nishiki? Where are we?" Kiryu asked. Nishiki kept his gaze ahead.
