- born in brooklyn, new york to two deadbeat parents who were kind, but couldn't do anything. they both meant well, and they loved her and her younger brother, but they literally couldn't provide for them. they only gave their love, but not their care
- her parents struggled to find work, so ever since amara was young, she was the one helping the family when they were strapped on cash. her parents were picky with work, they wanted a good, high paying job, but they didn't have college degrees or even any work experience. they declined any opportunity that wasn't up to their standards when they shouldn't have had any in the first place
- amara, on the other hand, took what she could get since she was six. she mowed lawns during the summer, shoveled snow during the winter, walked dogs, babysat, she did what she could. in the end, it was barely enough to cover the cost of her, her brother, and the house. she didn't bother with their parents, since they were surviving somehow
- her and her brother ended up growing extremely close, especially considering that their parents haven't been the best to them. amara is particularly protective over him, even if they aren't so far apart in age (about three or four years), but even so, she's always tried to keep him from worrying about anything that he doesn't need to worry about
- she was around fourteen when she took her brother and ran way from home. it wasn't like they ran far away or without any supervision, they were taken under the wing of officer kipling. amara often babysat officer kipling's kids while he was away at work and his wife couldn't stay home either. she stayed over there so often that she was almost like one of their own
- they found their way over to officer kipling's place in the middle of the night, and rather than him turning them away, they were, luckily, taken in
- what seemed like a good idea at first ensued a lot of legal problems. their parents lost custody of their child due to neglect, but rather than already going into officer kipling's custody, they were placed in social services hands
- amara and her brother didn't actually end up being "adopted" until amara was sixteen, in which they were finally considered a part of the kiplings

- when first meeting her, she's known to be loud and boisterous, the life of the party. she's always putting herself out there and mingling, there's never a silent moment with her. she's always on the move, always doing something
- insanely energetic, she's got a bunch of bundled up energy that always needs to be released somehow, and that tends to make her either very chatty or very active-- both, really
- speaking of chatty, she will not stop talking if she's allowed to. she's a person who cannot enjoy a moment of peace and quiet no matter how much she tries. either she's talking, or someone else is, or there's some kind of background noise, since she can't stand silence
- she acts much tougher than she is, and much more than she seems as well. she's definitely not a pushover, but she's all bark and no bite. she couldn't hurt a fly, even if she tried really really hard
- she's an open book, she will often wear her heart on her shoulder and give up all her secrets without much thought, she doesn't know how to be secretive when it comes to herself, she will tell people anything and everything about her without trying to
- when it comes to others though, she will keep their secret for the rest of her life if she has to. she's very much a ride or die friend as well, and will always stay loyal and be there for them no matter what. but with that, she expects the same from others
- she's insanely smart, contrary to popular belief. people tend to assume that she's not because of how little she seems to care when it comes to school or college or whatever, but she's extremely book smart. particularly in math and science
- despite being book smart, she's not really adept when it comes to street smarts. she's been scammed more times than not, and swindled into giving money when she really didn't need to. she's always been pretty oblivious into that kind of thing

- loves math. like it's literally one of her fave subjects tbh
