OOC: you can just read the paragraphs marked with >> to understand the context to reply, because the oneshot is 1000+ words I think?

She could feel all of their eyes on her - her mother's, father's, Aaron's, all her half siblings and cousins, all watching to see what she did next and trying to figure out how she felt. They'd watch Aaron too, but less so. He wasn't the heir to the destruction. She didn't let them ever into her head, remained as apathetic as she usually was. Calm, did her part to rebuild what had been damaged and destroyed. But she couldn't keep doing this forever: she needed to scream, she needed to cry. Then she needed to never think of her sisters again.

Sel was one of the only people that would enter her father's study unexpectedly (not without knocking), even if it was important. She didn't really get it - he'd never reacted badly to her presence, though perhaps that was because she was his apprentice and favorite. After knocking lightly on the door she slipped inside, shutting it behind her. Geoff was sitting at his desk as usual, going over reports from the day's progress of what had been recovered. "What is it, Selena?" He asked, hardly glancing up.

She moved forward, taking a seat in front of him, silent for a few moments until she was sure she had his attention. Well, even if he'd completely tuned her out her words would be enough for him to drop everything. "I'm leaving." If there was ever a time when she expected him to react badly to her, this was it.

"What?!" His voice rose and it took a moment for him to visibly calm himself before he continued at his usual tone. "Now? Are you insane?" Geoff set down the papers, focus going entirely on her. He was mad, she could tell, but she wasn't giving up just yet. Or at all, really.

"Of course now. Before the trail gets too cold." Sel said, like her motivations for wanting to leave should be obvious to him. He gave her a look that said "go on", so she did. "Someone's got to find Lessie and Isabel." He didn't seem to be buying it yet. Sel clasped her hands and put them on the edge of the desk. "Lessandra needs to pay, and Isabel needs to be brought back to safety. Do you really trust Lessa to look after her or to take care of herself on her own?" She couldn't imagine that Isabel would willingly stay with Lessandra for long, and she couldn't imagine she'd be able to survive without help, especially as injured as she was.

"Why does it have to be you? I could send anyone else, people that are better at tracking, people that are better equipped to handle them."

"Because, Father, I am their sister. If you send anyone else, they won't get anywhere near Lessandra. Maybe Isabel, but I might be the only one either of them will trust right now." She wasn't even certain Lessa would let her get close enough to do anything, speak, capture... I can't kill her. Even for everything she had done, she couldn't kill her sister.

Geoff drummed his fingers on the desk, thinking. "Why not Aaron, then, why not no one at all?"

Sel huffed. Of course he'd try to get Aaron to do it, but her younger brother hadn't been as close to them and he didn't have the skills to do it. She wasn't even sure how long he'd last on his own in the apocalypse. "Because we both know Aaron wouldn't be able to do it, and to not go after Lessie is a sign of weakness. It says you can f**k with the Felixes and get away with it, not to mention Isabel's life is on the line here." She could tell her words hit home, and he was taking them to heart.

"I need you here." He said, though there was less conviction of keeping her here than before.

Sel shook her head. "No you don't. You've got Aaron and he's been dying for the chance to prove himself to you." Aaron, Lessandra, Isabel, compared to Sel they'd all been neglected by their father and never given any chance to shine. But they also didn't have the expectations of eventually taking over the cartel. Sel reached out, taking her father's hand. "Just give me some time." After a long moment Geoff nodded, bringing a smile to Sel's face. "I won't let you down."

"You never do."

She didn't like lying to her family, didn't like giving them hope that she'd save Isabel and bring Lessandra to justice. She wanted to do the former, she really did. But she had a hard time believing that Lessie would try to hurt her or that Isabel wouldn't be able to take care of herself - the Felixes were tough, you didn't survive if you weren't. You also didn't survive if you got attached - look at what had happened to Lessie. Still, Sel had never thought loving her own sisters would bring up so much conflict. The conflict was why she needed to go, because no one else would be as upset by all this as Sel, no one would understand what she was going through.

Betrayed by one sister. Subsequently losing them both.

She needed a good cry. She needed a good scream.

She needed to never think of them again.

Sel didn't try to find Lessa and Isabel like she'd promised, instead she headed for the Badlands.

***

>>It had been two months since she'd gone to the Badlands and she'd never sent word back to her family. Directly, anyway. There was no doubt in her mind that they knew she'd been to that prison and had left with John. Whatever, she wouldn't have gone there if she wasn't ok with them knowing.

>>Still, maybe it was high time for a little trip home. She'd have to come clean, but that was alright.

>>She left without much of a fuss, but informed Blake, Mettaton, Tatiana and John that she'd be gone for a week or so but would be back and disappearing without any other fanfare. The sooner she could get back home the sooner she could return, after all.

Aaron slammed into her, engulfing her in a hug. Sel yelped, having not noticed her brother's approach. "Where the hell have you been?" He asked, stepping back and frowning at her. He was a few years younger than her at twenty, and had dyed the tips of his dark hair that was mostly covered by a purple beanie. "And where's..?"

She took a deep breath. "I've been in the Badlands and... I don't know where they are." His face fell, but after a moment a facade was back in place. Guess he's had time to impress Dad. Sel thought, since he never clamped down on his emotions like that unless he had to. And he never had to with Sel.

"Mom and Dad are going to want to see you." He said distantly, gesturing back towards the house.

"Right." Sel murmured, wanting to talk to him but knowing that she'd need to see her parents as soon as possible. Still, she didn't look forward to having to backtrack on everything she'd said to convince her to let her go and convince them to let her get back out there.

Aaron pushed open the side door, strolling into the kitchen and shoving his hands into his pockets. "Moom, Dad! Guess who's back?" Eliza looked up from whatever she was cooking, eyes widening in surprise and happiness when Sel appeared.

"Selena!" She exclaimed, running over and enveloping her in a hug. "Sweetheart, where have you been? What about...?" She trailed off, face becoming dark. "Oh."

Sel closed her eyes, taking that brief moment of bliss in her mother's arms. "I didn't find them." She said, stepping away and eyes going to Geoff as he appeared in the doorway to see what was going on. "I don't know if there's anything to find."

"I knew it was all a big f**king waste of time." Geoff muttered, taking a seat at the bar, gesturing to Eliza to bring him something to drink.

Sel tilted her head. "Actually, no." She smiled knowingly, heading deeper into the kitchen, waiting for Eliza to finish getting Geoff's drink before explaining. "In my search," "search" even though she couldn't bring herself to actually go after them, "I came across the Badlands. I needed to resupply and rest, and I figured why not look around? Before I know it I'm a Warchief."

"Sounds important." Aaron said, glancing at their parents. Geoff had raised an eyebrow and Eliza was frowning. Sel's smile widened and she nodded, even though it was little more than a mere title. They didn't need to know that.

"It is. Comes with a lot of power, lot of influence. It's more productive than trying to find two girls that are probably dead." She said it flippantly, carelessly, no matter how much it hurt inside. At her family's faces she added, "you don't really think they're still alive, do you? You didn't see Isabel, ok, Lessa robbed her of any chance she had at recovery by kidnapping her. And Lessandra - whoo, she can start a fire and that's as far as her survival skills go, I'm thinking. No, they are both dead by now."

Eliza closed her eyes for a long time, holding back tears most likely. Geoff worked his jaw, and Aaron muttered "Jesus f**king H. Christ." Sel shrugged. "And I take it you're here to..?" Geoff asked.

"Touch base, catch up, that s**t. I need to get back to the Badlands soon - important Warchief s**t and all." This whole thing had been precarious, telling them she'd given up on the search and gone to the Badlands instead, all this stuff, but this was really the hardest part. Convincing them to let her leave again. At least after this she might be able to really be honest to them, instead of twisting the truth.

"No. Absolutely not." Geoff said, shaking his head and taking a drink. "You're staying here. You don't think I haven't heard about the Badlands? I'm not going to lose all three of my daughters." Excluding the illegitimate ones. Sel thought with some dryness and bitterness.

"I think if anyone in the Badlands wanted to and could kill me, I'd be dead right now. Trust me, I'm a lot more secure there than you'd think. Besides, no one in the big groups knows the Felix name. I'm already starting to change that! By being there, I'm getting power for the Felix house and spreading our influence. F**k, give me something to sell over there and I'll do it. Might even do us well to branch out." It was probably one of the most pandering speeches she'd ever made, but it was working, she could see it in her father's eyes. "I'll stay for a few days, then I'll head back, and I promise I'll visit more." She gave him the "puppy eyes" and reluctantly he nodded. Geoff was no pushover, but between her status as favorite and her ability to manipulate him, getting what she wanted wasn't that hard.

***

>>In the end, it had been a bit closer to two weeks than one, but Sel returned carrying a backpack loaded with the Felix family's special "supplies" for her to sell. "What's up, b**ches? I'm back." She smirked as she strode in, deciding to head straight for her and Mettaton's apartment.

OK SO HI I'm super sorry for my inactivity, my rl has been and will be pretty hectic and this oneshot was kind of hard to write. Anyway, all that time when I've been inactive icly is explained by Sel's trip to visit family.

Personality:
— Sel is a very bold, competitive and stubborn person, with a wild side that is shown frequently as well as flirtatious tendencies. She is easily bored and is always on the lookout for adventure, with a spark of curiosity that she hopes will lead to what she seeks: adventure and romance. She seems to not be a very serious person and would rather have fun than be productive, and failing entertainment she can be quite productive and get quite a bit done. She's loud and lacks discipline. While Sel is irresponsible (and oddly bossy) and wild, she is very family-oriented and loves her family dearly. She is usually a cheerful, friendly person but she definitely has a passion for the weird, dark and creepy. She is somewhat vain and egotistical. She has her secrets and one of them is her intelligence and ability to collect information; most dismiss her as a dumb party girl (or something like that) and that's part of her cover, she has her fair share of sins and has to have a way of hiding them, and because she is a good liar and good actress, she succeeds.
