Here's a kind of funny thing that I do:

When I'm really bored, I'll place bets with myself based on who of my friends are online. For example "If Person A is online, I'll kick this chair." Or I'll use it to get things done if I'm procrastinating "If Person B is online, I'll fold the laundry."
