> his leaving made stella worse and chase basically raised herself and took care of her usually drunk mother. stella was an angry drunk, though, so she tended to take it all out on chase. it mostly wasn’t physical, but sometimes it was when things were really bad. most of the time, chase’s mom verbally and emotionally abused her, blaming her for all of the problems that started when she was born.
> despite all of this, chase still cared very deeply for her mother and wanted to see her get better, but it just never happened. it was like her own stolkholm syndrome and it took someone forcibly removing her from the situation for her to realize that.
