| tw: none they weren't madly in love and they weren't defying anything. it was a realization that in their line of work, anything can change at any moment. they had almost been killed, again, and were experiencing the clam that came after. their breathing was getting back to normal and they were appreciating the simple face of being alive when blake looked over at her. this had happened to too many times to count, but this one seemed different, it made the pair really realize the instability of life. "marry me." he said, looking intently at the girl in which he shared such a complicated relationship him. it had caused thalia to breath out a laugh, smiling and shaking her head a bit at him. blake's face scrunched up some, "i'm serious," the decision was sudden, something thalia wasn't familiar with. they didn't have rings, they didn't have a dress or tux, they didn't have a plan really. they wanted to go to mexico, which was always risky with thalia's immigration status; she had fake documentation, and they decided they'd figure the rest out when they got down there. they paid for everything in cash, as usual. they stayed in a hotel in puerto vallarta near where thalia grew up, her old house was trashed from the cartel searching it. she went to a small boutique to get her dress, ended up getting a lacey one that was kinda like a ball gown, he got a brand new tux. they picked out rings together. they even managed to find someone who was bilingual and could perform the ceremony in english. it was untraditional and unconventional, matching them very well. thalia had never felt so happy; nothing was perfect, but perfection was boring. the two barely spent time apart in the days leading up to the wedding. when the day came, it took them awhile to actually step away from one another to get ready. thalia didn't believe in the whole "the groom can't see the bride in her dress before the wedding" thing, but she wanted to get her makeup and hair done for the occasion (it also allowed her to have more time practicing her vows). a few hours pass and they're both ready, meeting back at their hotel room beforehand. they spent those few minutes complimenting one another, each one getting a bit dirtier, and laughing with one another. they went down to the venue together, being the only ones there. "i've learned to love you and i promise to continue doing so. i vow to be with you through the 'i hate you's and the 'i love you's. i promise to always have your back and let you take the lead sometimes. i vow to take and accept the good and the bad of you. yo prometo a quererte mientras viviramos." translation: i promise to love you for as long as we both shall live.

[div style="width:145px; height:145px; background:url(https://68.media.tumblr.com/caafb151d3ec...s5_540.gif) center; background-size:cover;"]. | . tw: sadness the trial had been going on for nearly a year; it would've been quicker, but beau plead not guilty. he had believed the justice system would do its job and protect the, mostly, innocent and take pity on him for being troubled. they couldn't afford an attorney, or just a lawyer even, so they were forced to settle for a public defender because they had spent so much on his bail. the jury was mostly older white men along with the judge. the prosecutor was trying to make a name for himself and seemed to want to make an example out of beau. he was offered plea deals, but he didn't take any. all the odds were stacked against him. beau was being tried for a robbery of a convenience store and homicide of the clerk that he didn't know was happening. he was just in the getaway car and had been really shaken up when he had figured out what had happened, but was also scared. they were found shortly after it happened, all of them arrested. beau's call was to his parents and his family ended up driving almost all night to get there. mor had been called by the defense as a character witness in attempt to establish beau's credibility. she spoke highly of her brother because she thought highly of him and gave merit to the idea that he was with the wrong people, in need of help, not punishment. amor sat in the front row of the courtroom that day, her fists were clenched so tightly that her knuckles were white. beau sat at the defense table, dressed nicely and sitting up straight; he looked so out of place to amor, he had the whole time. the jury had just came back with a verdict. it was all quiet besides the footsteps of the juror that was being the judge the verdict. silence settles across everyone as they all waited for the decision. "the jury has found the defendant to be guilty of all charges. the defendant is charged to seven years in jail for accessory to robbery and homicide. the state thanks the jurors for their service. court is adjured." beau closed his eyes and took a deep breath. he slowly rose and got to his feet, the bailiffs of the court securing handcuffs around his wrists. the boy let out a breath slowly and opened his eyes. the bailiff began walking him out, holding onto the handcuffs and putting a hand on his back. beau wanted to put his head down, unable to face his family; he could hear his little sister, the one he loved so much, calling his name through tears and he could feel the way his parents were looking at him, the pain on their faces. he got up the courage to look at them before he was taken out of the courtroom; the sight broke his heart. "i'll be okay," beau managed to get out, unsure if it was the truth, but he was trying to say something that would calm them down and put them at ease. amor's arms and heart dropped. she felt like she had been punched in the gut. how could they find beau guilty? he had no idea about any of it... she stood up as they started moving beau, her eyes began to water, and she could feel her parents grab onto her so she wouldn't try to get to him. "beau," she choked out, he didn't look, "beau!" she basically yelled between sobs. she needed her brother; he was one of her favorite people, someone she wasn't sure how to cope without. "beau, please," amor seemed to beg, running closer to him until he finally turned. him saying he'd be okay seemed to halt her, her legs stopped working. mor's mother caught her, pulling her into her chest as the cries rattled through the small girl's chest.

tw: miscarriage it was 3:17 am when amor woke up, her whole stomach and abdomen seemed to be cramping, making her wince a bit, but she wanted to roll over and go back to sleep. she had figured it was just because of something she had eaten for dinner. the moment of pain passed and she closed her eyes once more, ready to fall right back asleep. then it happened again, an intense pain that caused her body to go tense and her face to scrunch up some. ajax was looking at her, concerned about what was happening. mor didn't say anything, just sat up and put her legs over the side of the bed and slowly got up, "i'm going to the bathroom," she mumbled to him, deciding to go figure out what was going on by herself and not worry him unnecessarily; also, he wouldn't question her needing to use the restroom, she had already been needing it more and more and was only twenty weeks into her pregnancy. it had been a surprise, unexpected, but they had decided to keep it even though ajax didn't really love kids. he was always getting better with hana and amor had always kind of wanted a child. they made the decision rather quickly, the idea of parenthood was exciting and then it was right there in front of their faces. the weeks had started to go by really fast and next thing they knew, they were both excited and nervous, amor was showing, and they were both spitting out names they liked. amor and ajax were so unprepared, but they kept telling eachother they could make it work. their apartment could work until they could afford a new place, cali would get used to a kid being around, their families would help watch them while they were away. it all looked like it could be almost perfect. of course, it seemed like it was too good to be true. mor pulled the bathroom door closed before turning on the light. she quickly looked down at her stomach, noticing the blood that was on her ankle. she looked a bit harder, seeing blood on her legs and soaked through her underwear. she knew spotting was relatively common, but this amount of blood scared her. any blood was something to go to the doctors about, but this much.. her hand began shaking as she tried to clean herself up a bit before going out to get ajax, "it's gonna be okay. it's gonna be okay." she kept repeating to herself. "i'm bleeding," mor's voice shaking as she stepped out of the door. "we, um... we need to, uh, go to the hospital?" she said, not completely sure on what was the best thing to do as she tried to pull on some pants that were on the floor. ajax was next to her by the time she looked up, asking her questions that she really wasn't comprehending, "are you okay?" was one she happened to catch, but she didn't answer. ajax helped her out of their room and apartment and into the car. the silence that engulfed the car was unsettling to amor; it allowed her mind to go into the darkest places and assume the worst. "i-i think i'm okay now.. we can go back home, she said, "the doctor said blood was normal," she added, looking intently at ajax and waiting for him to respond. "it's all down your legs; that's not normal, amor." he said, barely glancing off the road at her. "but, i feel okay now. i bet the baby's okay," mor lied, she really just didn't want to hear it, "amor!" ajax raised his voice, but caught himself, taking a deep breath, "we're going to the hospital." he told her, hurt coming into his tone. amor shut up after that. not too many people were in the hospital and their situation was rather urgent, so they got in relatively quickly. the doctor collected a few things, leaving them alone in the room afterwards. that was the worst few minutes of her life. her and ajax didn't talk, just held hands on and off and anxiously waited for the doctor to come back with the news. the young couple straightened up as soon as the door opened and the middle-aged man in the white coat walked into the room. his face was too even, amor knew right away. she began shaking her head as she watched him, "i'm very sorry ms. valdez, you had a miscarriage. a nurse will be in soon to discharge you." amor was already crying. her hands covered her face and her knees came up to her chest. "what did i do wrong?" she cried as ajax pulled her into his chest. she could feel him shaking his head on top of hers. "nothing," he said quietly; he was crying too. the car ride home was quiet. amor cried, but it was quiet and she couldn't bear to look at ajax because he was trying not to cry. the streets were calm and dreary, almost as if they were in mourning too. it was still dark, the clouds blocking the sun's rising. ajax helped mor inside when they arrived back home; she sobbed when they got inside. she couldn't go into the bedroom, so ajax took care of the changing of the bed while she laid on the couch. every time she thought she was done crying it'd start again. she was curled into a ball, staring blankly at the tv that was off. ajax came back and sat next to her after awhile. amor had no more tears to cry as she sat up slowly and curled up against him while ajax wrapped an arm around her. cali found a spot on the couch between them and the small family sat there in silence. amor felt so exhausted, but didn't want to sleep; she didn't want to do anything. and the idea of not having something they really didn't even know they wanted and didn't have yet crushed her, having to tell everyone they loved that they had lost the baby crushed her further. her heart and body physically hurt. "you should try to get some sleep," ajax broke the silence with a whisper. amor shook her head. she rose and fell with his chest as he sighed, "we can try again, you know?" he said, trying to see a glimpse of his normally optimistic and positive girlfriend. "maybe it's not meant for us." she spoke quietly and the silence fell over them again.
