How she'd agreed to this was beyond her! She much preferred the safety and warmth of her cozy little home. And yet, she wanted to do her duty to the group that was so kind as to take her in. Meaning, she was on this patrol with Freddie, whom she did not know too well. He seemed an interesting guy, a few years her senior. Not someone she was willing to open up to, for all he looked good... then again, she was the queen of bad decisions in men.
Maisie sighed absently, her hands tucked into her pockets. The outdoors were all well and good, but give her a book and a warm crackling fire with a pot of tea, and she'd be content any day. Her eyes roved the scene in front of her, a twitch of amusement pulling at her lips. Perhaps it was amusing to see the person go tumbling into the cold stream. Maybe it caused a sensation of mirth to bubble up within her, but it was her duty first and foremost to ensure that the person who'd tripped was okay.
Slipping up to the front she stepped in front of Freddie, shooting him a glance of mild annoyance. "Are you okay? Feel like any bones are broken?" Might as well ask questions first and do an examination second. She'd check the person over once they got back to the lodge for sure, but a preliminary line of questioning was probably a good idea.
