— zamira colette lourdes was born on august nineteenth to niles and mayang lourdes in paris, france. her father is a hedge fund manager, and her mother was a famous news anchor in her home country of malaysia before she settled in london and married zamira’s father. zamira has one sibling, a sister named aminah who’s seven years younger.
— she loves telling people that her parents almost divorced over her name, and it’s partly true. the name zamira was their compromise between the malay name mayang wanted and the “normal” name niles wanted — it was easy enough, didn’t read as too foreign, and could be shortened to a nickname. her paternal aunt cassandra was the first to call her “mimi”, and unfortunately for zamira, it stuck. the entirety of zamira’s european family calls her mimi, even though it irritates both her and her mother.
— she’s not particularly close with anyone in her extended family in london, which is a surprise, since she’s pretty close with her family in kuala lumpur. it’s complicated, but regardless, she grew up going to the same elite private school as her five british cousins. she hated all thirteen years, and instead of continuing the family tradition of attending oxford, zamira applied exclusively to universities in the united states. it’s still somewhat of a family scandal, but zamira still doesn’t care.
— the only regret she has about choosing to go overseas for university is having left aminah in london. the two were close even before zamira left for the university of southern california, and being thousands of miles apart hasn’t changed that. for almost all of her first semester, zamira stayed up until midnight so she could facetime aminah before she left for school. it was originally aminah’s idea and zamira had begrudgingly agreed, but there was more than once where aminah completely forgot and zamira blew up her phone.

— she's had her twitter account for years, and originally it was a 5 seconds of summer stan account. eventually it was a halsey stan account and a pretty popular one at that, but once she moved to america she began the transition off of stan twitter, though she retained a good chunk of her followers from before. now she mostly just posts selfies and tweets just to say whatever's on her mind, but every so often someone will bring up her stan past and start beef for about a day and a half before zamira just blocks them.
— zamira speaks malay, but it's slightly rusty as the only people she really speaks it with is aminah, on occasion, and their mom. she's been trying to find more malaysian friends since she's been at usc, but there's not many on campus, so she's resigned to losing her fluency in it. it's still not as bad as her french, which she only learned in school because it was compulsory. at least she's found that butchering the french language is a fun party trick.
