(im going to bold all the sections where i suggest changes so that i can actually refer back to them)
((also it's like. 1:45am here i'm sorry for the quality of this post, especially bc i cant be bothered to proof read. we die like men))
@ beatles
yes yes yes. firstly, i'm really glad to hear that you think that flintlock has a friendly and engaging ooc community!! it seemed that one of the concerns was people feeling like flintlock is so tight-knit that it makes it difficult for a newcomer (ofc, you aren't new but you are returning so for our sake lets just say you're new) to include themselves into that community.
this is also something to definitely keep in mind. i do believe that 99.9% of the time, it is not the community's intention to come across as unwelcoming. i know that personally i love welcoming new people and trying to get to know them!! so i'm sure that is the same for many of us here!! but, at the same time, we must bear in mind that not everything is able to do that. some people may not be as talkative, chatty and generally gregarious so we have to respect their choices. and, as you said, it is a two-way street. it's pointless joining only to not put effort in from the outset because i dont know about you guys, but i'd love for the community to grow!
thank you so much for offering your character development challenge! i've dm'ed you about it so i'm very excited to see what we can do with it muahaha
what i think i'm getting from this is that we shouldn't focus less on personal plots but just try push for more group plots in general which, in my opinion, is an excellent idea. the only downside is that it is pretty difficult to implement without at least a couple of people being disappointed in its outcome. so, what i think we should do is perhaps encourage more group wide plots of varying degrees and perhaps at some point put into place all of the most popular suggestions! that way, someone is bound to get a plot that really interests them, plus..... it just boosts activity overall because there are things to do.
so, i think i'm going to make a thread about that when i'm done here to see what you guys think!
i have really been enjoying the fact that the ooc board has been becoming active again! like i genuinely think it's been so much fun
thank u so much! im glad you like the guide; i felt like it could do with a new face for the new era.
okay, so dogs and horses for transport! ofc im sure they already have smth like this for transporting timber, but maybe they also have something like this for proper transport through the mountains. even to other groups and territories? like petition to stop everyone walking around aimlessly GHFKJL
with the village, i really like that idea! what i may do if people are interested is expand on the territory in the village, adding some more details which may make it easier for people to make use of it more! i think the more we visualize it, the easier it'll be to think of threads to make there!! i really like your ideas, beats!!
as for their political stance! i do think that being more pro than neutral is a step in the right direction. as for the badlands/flintlock alliance, firstly i feel like things won't change for them in the meantime especially now that they are the badlands last ally. in addition, i imagine they will probably make a pact at some point to solidify the fact that they intend on staying allies?? also, i mean if people like the vigilante idea then i'd say lets go for it. ofc they wouldn't be going out of their way to turn into the superheroes of tnw HGJKL but definitely like. keeping an eye out and acting as the group that wants to keep the other groups in line. essentially the "mom friend" group of tnw AAAHGJKL
@ inny
i know i've already spoken to you about this all privately but i have got to mention on here that i highly respect the fact that you opened up like that; you know i'm proud of you and will always support you <33 i know you find it hard to talk a lot ooc to people but i have seen how hard you do try for people even despite your anxiety.
i can try encourage people to be less exclusive and more welcoming, only if they're showing signs of exclusive behavior ie. only talking to three or four individuals and entirely ignoring the rest. for those for feel more comfortable not chatting ooc, preferring to sit back a little more and focus solely on IC interactions, then i cannot do very much about this apart from respect their decision and i hope that people can understand this.
( as a disclaimer, i understand that inny and i are close but it doesn't mean i will be jumping to his defense all the time when it comes from flintlock matters. he's not getting any special treatment from me in that sense and if i ever did notice exclusive behavior from him i would be sure to bring it up to him. but, from my perspective, and looking at his side of the story, i cannot find any evidence of exclusive behavior if he, as a whole, tends to prefer to interact solely for IC interaction. i hope that clarifies things. )
as for the ic community, i'm glad you brought the term "branches" up! i was really hoping that creating a web of ranks rather than a straight ladder to the top is a more efficient ranking system for a group as productive as flintlock! the only thing i've been wondering which is a question for everybody: do we have enough high positions? i didn't want to make too many high positions as i want the field to be competitive, but at the same time i wonder whether it gives enough opportunity to climb ranks?? let me know, i'd be grateful!
i rlly like what you said here !! i think, as long as people are willing to all put effort into a plot like this, it can work well bc it literally gives everyone so many opportunities for different plots, reactions, arcs etc.
and I LIKE YOUR IDEA ABOUT THE DOG SLEDDING AND HORSE SLEIGHS. with people having a knack for dealing with that sort of stuff, which helps with development! my main aspirations are that we all have the opportunity to develop our characters outside of their given rank. so, hey, you may be a medic but you also know how to mush mush around the snowy mountains so you're also useful in helping people get from a to b in one piece. like. i think its a cool suggestion of yours and i love it.
LETS GET SOME GD CARIBOU. i'm thinking perhaps by the village there's a big ol place where they keep their caribou ? gives them more reason to visit the village more often.
@ hoot
sorry im not ignoring your comments entirely it's just i've spoken about them further up!
i understand that discord may be a little too fast for some people sometimes, so i definitely think the idea of everyone sorta like. making the ooc board more active could also help that, even if it's only slightly? i wish there was a more foolproof way of helping with your concerns, but i wonder if the only thing that can be done otherwise is simply encourage everyone to reply on the server as a whole rather than focus on only a few channels within that server??
i rlly appreciate the fact that you make an effort to reach out! i always feel incredibly wanted and valued whenever you (and this goes for everyone, too) pop up and chat, or reply to something i say. so i just wanted you to know that i'm grateful!!
as for plotting threads!! i've been really excited to see how many threads there are, and i will be posting my own in due course! it's a more... firm way of creating plots and honestly im living for it. well done, guys!!
ya know i think this is a rlly cute idea!! PLUS it also helps the fact that we intend on expanding the territory. which reminds me. if we were to expand the territory, what sort of things would you guys be interested in seeing??
also, i like the idea of a blizzard or maybe an avalanche?? like, they're surrounded by snow so cold-related disasters are bound to happen!!
AND. im loving the idea for dogs for combat! same could be said for horses (not the horses.... fighting. but i mean like riding them into combat HFJKL)! i think it would be a lot easier if they were to use what they have efficiently to ensure the safety of the lodge. but this is smth i think all you combat peeps should totally talk about!
and that whack idea. iS CUTE I LIVE FOR IT. i think that is actually a rlly decent idea! gives a certain age where a character can officially choose to be a part of a branch. and, additionally, being a child and eventually picking a branch at 16 it means they gotta become an apprentice. so, essentially, they're climbing the ranks right from the bottom, which i rlly like. i wonder what we can call the group of kids if we made them their own little category; i would just say "children" as the rank but i think it would be interesting for newcomers to also join the category temporarily if they dont yet know where they'd fit in the flintlock branch? gives more plot potential for some if the chose to pick that.
and, i do like the mention of morals! i think together we should all establish and plot what kind of morals we want to see in FL??
@ hal
(im running out of juice here i'm so sleepy so i'm sorry if this is a mess AAAHFGHJKL i think i've covered most things earlier??)
i am rlly grateful for your input on the ooc community!! and, i totally agree with the things you said. it can be intimidating as hell when joining; i remember my own experiences on here where i left bb for a hot minute bc i was so scared of rejection ?? like it's definitely daunting when you see how close people are to one another, but i think the best thing to do is for us all to try welcome every person in with open arms. try to get to know them better.
that is why i love what you say about the ooc board on bb because i feel like it gives the opportunity for us to get to know newcomers better?? like that's just my stance on it! i've been so happy to see the activity on the ooc board over the past few days and personally i've been laughing so hard at some of the responses that i felt like my rIBS were hurting FHGJKL and tbh!! i think that's the positive energy we need in flintlock's ooc community!
we all just gotta vibe with each other in that ooc board, i'm loving it
sorry for this very disappointing, casual and messy af post but yknow we're winging it here as opposed to my nice constructed original post. i hope i covered everything!!
is there anything else anybody else wants to add?
A BIG NOTE QUICKLY TO THOSE WHO HAVE NOT YET RESPONDED: pls pls pls dont feel obliged to write loads and loads just because there are other people writing a lot. if there is anything here that you want to bring up, even a single sentence will suffice. i am happy to listen to anyone and everyone, so pls don't feel daunted by all of these walls of text HKJL idk why i thought to add this. i just know that i'd feel intimidated personally so i thought to throw that out there.
ok. sorry for how informal this is. i would've made more effort if i wasn't half asleep AAA

Quote:let's remember that ooc inclusion is a two-way street. the members of the ooc community can only do so much to welcome a newcomer and offer to plot with them. and it's totally fine for a more shy or quieter person to refrain from chatting a bunch!! however, if you want to get involved in the community, you need to reach out. nobody is going to go bombarding your channel or dms with plots, so everyone needs to make their own effort to plot, yeah? it seems kind of unfair to call a group cliquey if you make no effort to talk with anyone.
this is also something to definitely keep in mind. i do believe that 99.9% of the time, it is not the community's intention to come across as unwelcoming. i know that personally i love welcoming new people and trying to get to know them!! so i'm sure that is the same for many of us here!! but, at the same time, we must bear in mind that not everything is able to do that. some people may not be as talkative, chatty and generally gregarious so we have to respect their choices. and, as you said, it is a two-way street. it's pointless joining only to not put effort in from the outset because i dont know about you guys, but i'd love for the community to grow!

Quote:i personally like the bluestem and flintlock tension, because i feel like it’s the sort of plot where you get out of it what you put into it. it’s that long term plot where tensions start rising, characters start forming their own ideas on the situation. on each other. it’s kind of exciting, and i love plots where there i can see depths of it, ripples, domino effects, that sort of thing. i’m excited about it and i’m already trying to think about how my chaotic dumbass fred will… chaotically do dumb shit throughout it to not help the situation.

Quote:Maybe a character discovers something that could benefit Flintlock? Like...secret tunnels under the village... Or secret caves!! Something secret and cool. If we go with caves, maybe there’s material in there that could benefit Flintlock. Not to get all Minecraft on y’all, but iron?? Mayhaps?? Idk how accurate that game is but—ya know. There could also be recollections of people who used to own the lodge or something. People can make up rumors about it being haunted, kids can dare one another to go in, and campfires with scary stories can take place there!!
