Greer felt implosive, to the point where the nineteen-year-old looked completely calm. Wearing a thick black shirt with the logo of some band they'd never heard, they used the sleeve to clean their smudged glasses as Hayley called a meeting.
She looked pretty scary in the flickering light of the raging fireplace, but it was a price worth paying for the warmth encompassing the entire room. Greer hadn't felt this warm and clean in what was probably months, it felt like being wrapped up in a hug.
Greer's eyes flicked up as Hayley talked, actually mentioning them in her announcements. Oh jeez, as if they didn't stand out enough already; was this what it felt like to be the transfer student being paraded in front of the class and told to say something interesting about themselves? Foster told them that it happened back in the old world, and that it sucked.
Northstar District and the Badlands, two more names to remember. They probably made up some of the major groups, at least Greer thought they must; why would Hayley care about anything less? They were already pretty safe in their mountaintop resort.
Oh holy fuck. Explosives on the mountainside? They could've gotten blown to hell and back before even reaching Flintlock. That was- that was terrifying, what the hell? Who would even do that?
And then ending off on talk of ranks, like she hadn't just dropped a massive bombshell thirty seconds earlier. Yeah, not in their wildest dreams could they patch up someone who stepped on a landmine or some shit. They wanted to speak up, but it seemed as though Hayley had dismissed them and- oh fuck it, they'd just stew on this for a bit in silence.
