[align=center][div style="width: 430px; text-align: justify; font-family: calibri; font-size: 8pt; color: black; line-height: 22px;"]☁ eloise was... well, she was a sweet girl, but hayley couldn't say she loved the girl's habits. she wasn't exactly armed, not as far as hayley knew, but she seemed persistent on remaining outside of the lodge, rather than within, where an eye could be kept on her. fourteen was at the brink, between child and adult, and while some, like brendan, were firmly on the adult side, guarded and jaded from the years, hayley left eloise up in the air. not a full resident, but also not a child; in other words, she wasn't sent on patrols, but she also didn't need to be babysat.
of course, hayley did her best to check up on her as often as she could. make sure the girl was staying warm, eating enough. that was what brought hayley into the stables that afternoon, carrying a thermos in one hand, the other tucked into her pocket. brutus growled, but hayley was unfazed; while she liked dogs, she was perhaps a little too confident in how she'd fare in the fight against him. after all, she had knives and the shotgun over her shoulder, while he had teeth. she didn't want to ever be in a position to be pit against a dog, but if it ever came down to it, hayley was willing to bet on herself.
❝oh hush,❞ she dismissed as she moved towards eloise, stopping beside her to offer her the thermos, and out of her pocket retrieving a small tupperware bowl of food for brutus. ❝i figured you guys might be hungry, so soup and kibble.❞ she explained, her eyes catching the paper and a brow quirking. ❝i didn't know you liked to draw. i'm awful at art, but jackson likes to do... art stuff.❞ she mused, recalling his sketch of her, and the stick-figure she'd done of him. ❝you're good-❞ but hayley knew gabe, for better or worse. he seemed like an alright kid, but at the end of the day, he was a badlander. kid or not, he couldn't be trusted. ❝who's that?❞ she inquired, glancing to eloise's features with a look of knowing behind veiled curiosity, curious if the girl would admit the truth.
