Doestep's paws ached, and her throat was dry and sore from panting. She was used to running, and was known to spend the entire day wandering sometimes. But nothing compared to how hard she pushed herself to find Hollowstar. She spent sleepless nights wandering Windclan territory, even pacing for hours by the gorge on the edge of their borders with Riverclan. Although she desperately wished the worst hadn't befallen Hollowstar, she hoped to at least find a body to pay her last respects to. Some sign that their searching wasn't in vain, or maybe their leader had just fallen somewhere to deep to get out herself, something. Back and forth across the borders she went, thinking that maybe Hollowstar was just over this next hill crest, or maybe she had wandered back into Windclan and Doestep should go back and double check that one pile of rocks... But she found nothing. Not even a trace of a scent to lead her in the right direction. Hollowstar had simply vanished.
The typically happy-go-lucky cat seemed drained of all her energy as she sat by the meeting place. Her tail sat limp behind her, her shoulders here hunched, and her ears were just barely pricked forward to hear Waxface's announcement. She had done everything to find her leader, but that still wasn't enough. I just hope she's not suffering, Doestep thought. As Waxface asked his question, the she-cat lifted her head slightly and stood up. "Will we be holding a vigil for Hollowstar?" she asked hesitantly. One side of her wanted to hold on to the hope that Hollowstar was still out there, alive and well. The other side thought more reasonably, and wished to at least say goodbye properly.
