The child's eyes opened, a small gasp of air escaping his lips, gripping himself back to reality. That no, maybe it exactly wasn't okay. That nightmares, or moreso memories haunting his sleep, have been a big hardship him lately but he had to learn to pass them. He had to resist the urge to fall in their sadistic torments. Even if it was the easy way out. The fact that he had the weight on his shoulders from this secret was enough.

Again, there it was. A knock at the door of the small trailer that he and his twin brother, Hunter shared. He was unsure who it was, for no one paid the twins no mind unless they had to wake up early for a show  well, unless Hunter had to wake up early for a show. But Chase knew that there wasn't one, at least not in the early of the morning. It could have been Charlotte, who did happen to be up fairly early quite often, but she just didn't knock like that. And she learned that at times, Hunter did not react too joyously at times to the interruption of his "beauty sleep". It wasn't all the time he was like that, of course, but when he was exhausted from sneaking out all night, either out late visiting Silas or visiting him.
Chase sat up into an upright position, allowing himself to take in the scenery. He wasn't sure why, just for that small sense of familiarity. Reassurance. That he was no longer relieving that night. Instead he was in the trailer. Didn't have much. Two beds. A sink. A bathroom. And sunlight spilling through the windows. The boy let his shoulders fall with relief, looking over across the area of the trailer where his brother should has been sleeping as well. "Hunter?" the boy mumbled, his voice still beaded with exhaustion.
But he wasn't there.
The bed still crinkled, barely made. Hunter style.
Chase was used to his brother not being in bed when he went to sleep at times, but it was very rare for him to not be here when he woke up. Concerned, Chase went to the door, hoping something didn't happen that he didn't know about between the time he fell asleep and just know waking. Opening the door, he was welcomed with the presence of a tall man in a police suit with a mustache, a hat, the police badge.
Something must have happened. Chase began to think of the hide out. How could they have possibly found that when it was so well hidden? Was Hunter going to jail. Chase was able to sneak a peak around, hoping to catch a glimpse of his twin but only was surprised to see a good amount of policemen waiting at tents and trailer doors. They must have found something. but if it was Hunter, why did it matter to him? Whatever he got in the end, he deserved. Taking those innocent people's lives. Being influenced by the so-called myth, Milo Barnes. In the end, it was Hunter's choice.
"Hello there, young man. I'm here to ask you a couple of questions if that's okay with ya." No, it wasn't okay. But Anna's strict rule to stay mannered stuck with him so after a hesitant moment, Chase stepped out. "Chase. Chase that's yer name?" The police officer continued after chase closed the door. Simply, Chase nodded, deciding that was polite enough. "Did you know the man, that human, that was a regular here? Gossiped about yall and such?"
Know him? Of course. It was Charlotte's uncle. He didn't talk to him enough to tell you everything but he could tell you that he did love Charlotte a lot and that he was a victim at the hands of his brother just days before. He already felt this as the beginning of an uncomfortable situation.
Chase knew there was no reason to lie to that and again, nodded.
"Well, he... Died. We found 'em last night in the forest. And Im not sure how well you know him, but I simply want to know what you do. Maybe you don't know anything. That's al'ight. I just want to know the last time you saw him."
The last time he saw him. Well, it'd be something that the policemen would like to hear. The last time he saw him, was when he became the actor of Hunter's fim, documentary. How he did not get even the slightest chance to scream as he was stabbed the multiple of times he did because Hunter taped his mouth shut but being as cocky as he was, he didn't cover his eyes. Chase was sure he enjoyed the fear in them and Chase could agree (of course not with Hunter, but the man's fear), because he reflected off it. Just there were times where the nightmares became to gruesome, he found himself stumbling to the exact spot where the act was taking place. When he finally regained his footing, he's not even sure how he got where he did til he was watching the looks of his brother, who was either focused, as if it was some type of job or smiling as if some type of game. Either way, it was sick. And every time, Hunter threatened him. Hunter or Milo. "Tell anyone I'll kill you." "Tell anyone he'll kill you." "Watch the film over and over." His own brother. Threatening to kill him. The most heart wrenching and most scariest thing he'd ever hear.
After witnessing the murder, he didn't have a nightmare that night. Sometimes even the next. But then they began again and again. He assumed that was Milo's works though he could never be sure.
"i saw him... In the woods when I was taking a walk... But I left." he lied, though it wasn't a complete one. He was sort of walking in the woods. Unlike Anna and Hunter, Chase wasn't the best at keeping things that pressured him, that seemed to be tightening his chest. As soon as it left his lips, he could tell the policeman would be wanting more. It showed in the man's face.
"Are you sure that's all? You don't have to be scared to tell me more if you know any more."
"it's my story. That's all I know..." Chase tried, looking at the ground below him. The man kneeled on one knee to his height now and forcefully, Chase flickered his eyes up to meet the older man's. "Are you positive?"
God, was he? What if they already had Hunter? Then he couldn't hurt him and he'd be okay.
"Chase? What's going on?" As if on cue, the familiar voice of Hunter. It came from behind him and the boy went ridgid, trying to make it clear as he looked over his shoulder. Hunter was already dressed. A red and white plaid shirt, jeans and sneakers. He held a half eaten green apple, joining his side. "Did someone die again?" He said it so casually, it sent shivers door Chase's spine  one he was sure that Hunter knew he was getting  but the policeman didn't suspect anything from it because they never suspected the kids.
"Ahem, Hunter Adams right?" The police asked, receiving a small smirk and chuckle from Hunter as he took another bite into his Apple. "The only." He answered, looking up from his apple to the police officer. "We are investigating the murder of a regular here. Do you possibly know anything about it?"
Hunter stopped mid crunch, glancing over at Chase, one that the boy caught. Telepathically, he knew that his twin was secretly telling him that he better not have said anything. He looked over at the policeman once more, shrugging. "They tell us nothing so therefore, I know nothing. Why do you think it has anything to do with us anyway? Because we're superior?"
There, the policeman looked kind of annoyed. "Because he visits you often. That's why. Look, I'm just wondering when's the last time he saw him and last time your brother said he saw him was near he was killed. We're just solving an invesigation for a human being, kid. Doing what's right."
Chase felt his blood run ice cold. He knew exactly what his brothers reaction to this news would be, and he knew it wouldn't be good. Right then and there he realized he might have said too much. He looked over at Hunter, who was very much in fact giving him for something that might have appeared casual but he knew that secretly, it was far from it. He said too much.
"Oh yeah I'd been there. I didn't really pay attention to the man, though. Chase has been having nightmares lately so I was just talking to him, helping him clear his head." Hunter said, of course sounding fluent as he spoke, his eyes lingering on Chase a bit longer before looking at the policeman. "But trust me sir. We know nothing more than that."
