most people think being an art major is easy. just draw some lines, color it in, bada bing, bada boom, you've got yourself an a! alex, however, definitely thought otherwise. between the many boring art history and digital classes- which sucked when you were as unfamiliar with technology as the pastel-haired boy- he had to complete so many projects for his various studio classes. he really didn't have time to do anything outside of his art, and if he was wise he would spend all of his time studying and working on his techniques. alex, however, is not the wisest, and he thought if he had to study another generic painting made hundreds of years ago by an old dude with depression or a messed up childhood, his brain would literally explode onto the pages in front of him. although, he could probably turn in the result and get a better grade than any of his paintings would. anyway, the thought that wow i should really be studying only crossed his mind briefly on the lengthy ride to the gang's next haunt.
honestly, alex had no idea how he'd been roped into this whole ghost-hunting shindig. yeah, he believed in ghosts, but that only made him even more freaking terrified. he had somehow become a ghost-hunter along with five friends with a mildly successful youtube channel in the blink of an eye- whether it be his blue one or the green is irrelevant. the group often traveled short distances to various haunted locations. this time, their destination was about two hours away, causing the six people squished into the jeep to become quite cramped. despite this, alex consistently sang loudly along with the radio, attempting to match the voices of those such as christina aguilera and avril lavigne. he did have a nice voice, but in times like this he let all control of it go, and he sounded pretty awful.
"are we there yet?" alex had whined several times throughout the journey. being the smallest, he usually ended up being sat upon a lap, and this time was no different- his tiny legs had been crossed as he sat on cash, the latest victim. as they finally arrived to the newest location, alex scrambled to be the first out of the car. he looked towards the abandoned, supposedly haunted sanitarium with awe. the place just felt creepy, and whether or not alex's slight fearfulness created a bias or not was debatable.
alex grinned at deacon's words. of course no research had been done. they were walking in blind, not that alex minded. nope, it definitely didn't make the boy anxious or stressed or even frightened or- who am i kidding, of course it did. he didn't let it show though, instead responding to the large boy. "yes mom, of course mom. anything for you mom." alex let one of his signature toothy grins slide onto his face before turning towards the jeep. "c'mon guys, hurry up! i wanna see some ghosts!"

alex laughed warmly as eli seemed to forget he was in america. he watched as he tossed seven- seven!!- pillows onto his bed. how anyone could need that many was beyond alex. he had to admit, though, his bed looked very comfortable. "america's... interesting. you're right though, the food's pretty lit." alex said. he'd never been especially fond of america, it's obnoxiousness and overly-patriotic tendencies. it got rather annoying, especially in the south, where he was from.
alex blushed at eli's words, and then nodded vigorously in response to the next ones. "i'd love to see some of your work!" he said excitedly. he loved photography, but he and technology didn't exactly get along, so his own photos were, well, absolutely awful. blurry, out of focus, anything that could be wrong would be wrong if alex was manning the lens. "you must be, aren't they like, super hard on the photography students? as far as being accepted, i mean. it's easy to get in for painting or drawing or whatever, but photography? that says a lot that you're here man." he spoke quickly, wincing as he realized he was rambling. "aha, sorry. sometimes i just get talking, really fast at that, and it just gets less coherent and more annoying and all around just very unpleas- ah. i'm doing it again." a sigh followed his words. he was embarrassing himself and honestly just wanted to crawl under his duvet- but that'd be rude, so he persevered, red face and all. "honestly, feel free to tell me to shut up whenever. i really need it." the sound of the blue boy's awkward laughter was high pitched and uneven, revealing his embarrassment.
ryan had stepped onto the plane the previous night, not knowing whether he was filled with excitement or dread. after a long, tearful departure from his grandmother, who'd been taking care of him since it happened, he'd boarded his flight and found his seat before settling in, prepared to nap the entire flight. however, he was plagued with what he would soon find out was only the beginning of his bad luck, as a screaming child was sat directly behind him, a drunk gentleman to his left, and an older woman who kept giving him dirty looks across the aisle. at least i have the window seat. he'd thought grouchily, put into a bad mood. due to this unfortunate series of events, ryan exited the plane filled with both anger and exhaustion. not a good start to such an important day. he struggled to hail a taxi- cabs weren't really a big thing in virginia, so he had no experience. once in the cab, he realized the driver was taking a deliberately long route, and ryan had to severely overpay. great.
after finally arriving at the stone building he would reside in for the year, he had had enough of the bad luck. he took a moment to calm himself before striding in confidently. he was convinced his unfortunate luck would lift- until he walked directly into a glass wall, that is. now left with a large lump on his head, he angrily stomped to his room- number seven, according to his paperwork- and barged in. he noticed a boy sitting on the edge of a bed, but ignored him, opting to instead fling his belongings and himself onto the bare bed across from him. ryan briefly considered introducing himself in depth or making conversation, but decided against it, instead going with a simple greeting.
"hi. i'm ryan, your roommate. i've had a really, really bad day. what's your name?" ryan didn't recall reading it on the paperwork, although he was sure it must've been there. he didn't care too much, but was going to be polite anyway. rude is one thing he wasn't.
