He barely moved a muscle himself, even as she was out the door - he didn't have to, anyways, because he was there in a flash, in front of her, blocking her way. She was a petite thing, small and blond, pretty eyes and milky skin and a soft face that had charmed its way into his cold, dead, unforgiving, barely-there excuse of a heart. He could not, would not, complain.

"I hate you, Klaus."

He smiled warmly despite the intensity of the situation. She recoiled as if he had hit her, even though she must be used to his antics by now, or else why would she be here, fancying herself his lover? "Now, love, we shan't jump to conclusions -"

"Oh my god." her voice was high-pitched.

She squeaked it out again. "Oh my god."

"Did you just use the word shan't?"

He paused. Entertained her by looking as if he thought about it. "Yes, I suppose I did. What of it?"

"It makes me hate you even more."

"What's next? You'll hate me for breathing air?"

She glared at him. "Yes."

"Caroline, as much as you amuse me, I am not known to be a patient man. You're usually an impression of this, but what brought this new fit about?" his voice rose, and she moved to pass by him, and he blocked her way again, a lean wall of centuries year-old flesh that had healed many, many times. He was stronger than her, and she knew it, but when had that ever stopped Caroline Forbes?

"This new 'fit'?" he was half-expecting her to add another 'god' onto the end of it, but she refrained. "I'm angry with you, Klaus, because when you said that I was your number one, I didn't think you meant that there was a two and three."

"Oh."

"Oh?"

"Camille and Hayley were temptations, yes, but Caroline -"

She put her hands on her hips, waiting. His smile returned from where it had fallen from his face earlier. "- you're my number one for a reason."

"Yeah?" her voice hadn't lost its anger. "What reason?"

"I will tell you. In time."

She practically squawked this time, and stomped off. He let her.
