He never would have thought that she would actually step into the path of the blade. It wasn't his intention to hurt her, in fact he had been trying to avoid it altogether. Spotting the trickle of blood made his chest tighten with guilt, which unfortunately for him gave Sylmae enough time to follow up with a counter attack. Noticing her movements too late he watched as her body pivoted, swinging the bat to connect painfully with his ribs. Giovanni's teeth clenched together as he prevented an agonizing shout to escape. Instead all that could be heard was a harsh grunt and his now watery eyes narrowed dangerously as a fierce pain rippled up his side. Out of both anger and reflex he smacked the edge of the bat that was still touching his side away. With his free arm he lifted his shirt to look at the deep purplish bruise that was already beginning to set in, but underneath there was a small hairline crack in his rib.

A soft curse fell from his lips as he gripped his injured side, reducing his breaths to shorter ones. How had he just let that happen? Well, of couse he knew how. But he blamed himself for being distracted and now he had gotten hurt because of it. His grip on the switchblade tightened as he looked back towards Sylmae, dropping his arm back towards his side. He didn't know what to think at the moment, but every fiber of his being was convinced that she had meant to hit him on purpose. No doubt Tatiana would have plenty to say about how he had just completely messed up. And all before he could even show the true potential he really had. He wasn't sure what hurt more at the moment, his pride or his body.
