Mercy felt a bit more comfortable now that she was finally talking with him, just talking with someone. The strange quiet that seemed to occupy St. Peters almost as much as the people who lived here didn't do anything to help her nerves. However, she let her anxieties about her surroundings fall away as she focused on the conversation with the man in front of her. A bit of surprise flashed in her eyes at the formality of the greeting, but she didn't let herself dwell on it too long. It wasn't like she hadn't guessed him to be military, from the way her held himself and how he threw himself into exercise.
As he saluted her, a quizzical look touched her eyes as she responded, "At ease, Dr. Alister," she responded, still moving forward and shaking the hand he offered her, making sure to not touch any fresh wounds. However, he wasn't getting away that easily from the younger medic. Instead of pulling away after the handshake, she carefully flipped his hand over, glancing up at him before glancing at the slight injury. It was something that she could easily put some disinfectant and wrap with a bandage, however she wasn't going to start pulling out her medical supplies without permission first. "And no amount of training and exercise can train you to fight an infection that an open, untreated wound might grant you," she added, smiling a bit as she said this. It was then she let go of his hand, taking a step back.
"It's lovely to meet you as well. Running into others who have some variety of medical experience is quite unusual, especially around here." After all, many of those who had medical experience back before the Blackout weren't around anymore, or they'd found some place to hide that she didn't know about yet. She nodded at the question, giving him a bit of background into how she'd ended up here. "Well, as formal of training as one can receive after the Blackout. I was an apprentice of sorts under a doctor for 11 years. Ever since I have been doing the best I can to reach and help as many as possible." There was probably a better way of explaining what she did, a way where she could go into more detail, but nothing came to her mind at the moment. Also many, many little details that she tried to forget most of the time. But she didn't want to bore him.
"I usually don't stay in one place for too long, but I usually find myself in St. Peters once every few months." As she spoke, she shrugged her book bag off her shoulder, unzipping it and pulling out a roll of clean bandages and a fresh bottle of antiseptic that she'd only just gotten from the last location she'd been at before St. Peters, an abandoned hospital.
