— diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder at a young age but bailey believes that it was just his mother's excuse to get him put on medication that would call him down
— bailey has a brain disorder that causes blood clots to form in his brain. on occasions, he'll get these really intense headaches and then all of a sudden, a seizure will start. he'll violently convulse and throw up whatever's in his stomach and he'll start bleeding from the nose and from the mouth. hopefully, someone is with him at the time and can call an ambulance. if someone isn't, he carries around a clicker that calls an ambulance to wherever he is, just in case. these seizures don't happen often. they started occurring when bailey was 15 and he had gotten in a car accident with his older brother, jacob. jake was killed on impact and bailey went into a coma for a couple weeks before waking and having doctors discover his disorder. he's been put on numerous medications and as long as he stays away from alcohol, he's usually fine.

— bailey used to love three things: cars, sports and his older brother. all three were ripped away from him the day a drunk driver's truck collided with his brother's station wagon. first, his brother was taken, killed on impact. then he realized sports were gone to. no more rough housing with his friends, no going to lacrosse practice after school, no getting yelled at for not being fast enough by the coach. no sports. and then he realized cars were gone too. no working on dad's old cadillac in the garage because it gave him panic attacks, no going to shows with his brother and dad because his brother was gone and his dad was too depressed to leave the house and of course, the cars gave him panic attacks. so bailey doesn't love much any more

— the other side of bailey's family, his mother's side, is heavily irish-catholic. the thing about irish-catholic people is that they generally hate people who aren't irish catholic. when iris married daniel they were pretty outraged, because she was such a nice girl and he was, of course, a filthy salmon cruncher. bailey's mother is the 4th sibling of 12 and he has a total of 63 first cousins. towards the end of high school, when bailey came out as bi, the rest of iris's family nearly disowned them. they still, however, force all the carpenters to family gatherings, which bailey despises. they're all racist, drunk and talk about jake way too much
