name & nicknames; kara is an irish name, meaning sweet melody, something her mom really loved due to being very into singing. her middle name was given to her to give her that strength, the strength of artemis. halo is a more recent last name, going only a couple generations back, they changed it after coming to the states from france. since her last name is so unique, kara is called it from time to time, it's her only real nickname.

history
kara artemis halo was the miracle child to alina and joseph halo. the two were on the older side, but had been trying for a kid for years with no luck, kara was their last attempt. the couple didn't have very much money, almost all of both their paychecks going to pay rent for their small apartment in boston. having kara definitely made life pretty hard and money extremely tight, but their dream was to raise a child.
alina and joseph were very protective of their baby, a little too protective, and some times kept her overly sheltered. kara grew up loving her parents and being very close with them, never questioning what they said or their rules; all she wanted to do was please them. the little girl excelled in school, never missed a piano lesson, and always wanted to help around the house. she was the best child anyone could ask for.
kara graduated as valedictorian of her high school class and was accepted into nyu. her parents were against her going, causing kara to go against them for the first time when she accepted to go there. nyu was kara's first taste of the real world. her parents didn't fund her education, so she had to figure a way to not go into crippling debt with student loans; she became a model.
an agent had seen her on campus and thought she had the perfect look and insisted kara sign a contract, which she naïvely did without throughly looking over because it seemed like an answer to her financial problems. turns out, the contract allowed the agent to get any job for kara and if she turned them down, kara would be out. the agent was fine at first, getting kara pretty nice, semi-high end shoots, but then they got more and more revealing until kara was in pornography, something the innocent girl never wanted to do. kara began to hate herself, not knowing how to get out of it or what she could do.
