freddie was rather proud of his warlord title. even though he often detested the idea that he had to consult eddie on most things or report back to him, he still often revealed in all of the other perks the position held. besides, even while he appeared bored around the lodge, it seemed like he found a position that suited him almost perfectly. perhaps while others didn’t know about his bloodthirsty tactics - and overall gruesome violence - it still seemed evident at the day that he was a fighter. as much as he hated his cousin, he had to admit - the guy knew what fred’s strengths were.

leaning against a wall, arms crossed, he watched two apprentices as they sparred. “do we really have to practice like this?” one complained as the duo eyed each other down. “in a real fight i won’t need to stand around this much. i could just go in fists flying-” the apprentice started taking a bunch of swings, most of the combination getting blocked. fred hummed, subtly leaning his head back.

“sparring isn’t about showing off your strength, kid,” he pointed out, watching the two with an absent gaze. “it’s about showing off your skill. which-” he watched as the other apprentice landed a few jabs, the first one backing off to try and avoid them. “you seem to be lacking.” waiting a moment, he pursed his lips before praising the other one, “not bad.” although blunt, fred sounded otherwise nonchalant and casual. freddie had arguably been the same way when he started learning to fight. he was always ready to show off his strength - only eventually learning to set his ego aside enough to actually learn.

eyes wandered over as others started to filter in. pushing himself off from the wall, he looked around at the newcomers filtering on in. “alright. everyone ready? find yourselves a partner, now.”

Set aside by their difference in beliefs, it didn’t take much for the two cousins to begin to despise one another the older they grew. Two boys with a competitive nature became two men who could barely be in the same room as one another without tension that could be sliced with a knife, or with words sharp enough. Nowadays, in most of his personal life, Eddie could barely tolerate Fred and his frequently biting words. But, when it came to business, Eddie had to admit that Fred was trustworthy.

He made a good Warlord. He was reliable, he worked hard, and he was good at what he did; Ed would be humble enough to put their differences aside if it would benefit the lodge. And so, when he heard that Fred was hosting a sparring session, Eddie knew that he’d be interested in standing on the sidelines to watch. Additionally, Henry insisted that he was ready to begin to learn how to fight. Whilst Henry was still young, Eddie had started training at an even younger age - although he’d been dragged into it rather than Henry making the decision for himself. He knew that Henry was ready.

So, Ed guided the young boy into the room; surely there’d be someone around Henry’s age and skill level to practice sparring with today. Wandering into the room, Henry glued to his side, Eddie quietly ushered the youngster to go find himself a partner before he stood in the corner of the room, observing in silence.
