ANOTHER DAY // BAR OPENING

it took a lot of effort. hell, to most it was probably the most they had ever seen frederick stirling work before. sometimes he seemed to mostly coast through life, doing most tasks nonchalantly, or because there was something in it for him. this bar, though, was strictly for himself. perhaps that was why he found so much reward in getting him set up; it was one of the most selfish things he’d done, one of the few things he went and did for himself. not that he was selfless - he could be quite the opposite - but this one had no real signs of deceit in it. it was something where he could purely reap the benefits.

he stood cleaning the bar as others either filtered in to look at the grand place, or put in finishing touches. from his spot behind the bar, he turned his gaze over towards the nearest person. “hey,” he started, holding a finger up. “stay right there,” he insisted as he grabbed a bottle of beer. with a confident flair about him, he opened the bottle before sliding it down the bar.

and hey, for a first try it was pretty decent. of course, it seemed to topple unsteadily, not even reaching the other person. pursing his lips shortly, he hummed dissatisfied. “we’ll get better at it, yeah?” he reasoned, flashing the person a grin before picking up the rag again. god, he was already loving this place.

"if i had it my way," he voiced aloud, gesturing towards an empty space. "i'd get a damn pool table in this place. though how the hell am i supposed to get a pool table up a mountain?" all mindless rambles at this point, yet it seemed fairly evident the man was a bit fond of this place.

// bar is open y'aallll aye
it's a shit post but i'm trying ASDF

The peached hair girl was among those who filtered into the bar. Penelope was rather interested in seeing what it looked like now, looking around the place while Freddie tried to show off to someone. It wasn't until he talked about getting a pool table that she really said anything, she didn't talk to many people in the lodge, though she knew Freddie more by hearing his name.

"Could always build one. Or maybe use the horses to get one up here." She suggested, looking over towards Freddie as she voiced her suggestion. Penny was more the artsy type, she preferred to paint actually, but building things wasn't far out of her abilities. "Did you make this place all nice by yourself?" She knew how to get someone talking, and faking that dumb innocence tended to work. She looked at Freddie curiously, wondering if he'd even answer her.

"Or did someone help you?" she questioned "You have a brother, don't you? Did he help?"

If it weren’t for the fact that it was his responsibility as leader to oversee the development of the village, Eddie certainly would not have been at Fred’s bar during its opening. But, a while after people began to filter in to enjoy themselves, Eddie soon followed suit, heading into the village for a drink or two. He stepped into the bar just as he heard a couple of people cheering with a laugh. Eyes darted over to see what they were chuckling about; amused by Freddie’s less-than-impressive attempt at sliding drinks down the bar.

Give it a week and this entire bar would start smelling like stale beer.

Ed blinked impassively before finally looking around the room. Admittedly, Fred had done a fantastic job at setting this place up. It was exactly what Flintlock Lodge needed - a proper place to go and socialize. Plus, the idea of a pool table didn’t sound too bad, either. Eventually he made his way to the bar, taking a seat on the bar stool right at the end as he rested his elbows on the bar, fingers woven together. He listened quietly to conversation between Fred and Penny, choosing not to join in but instead take in the ambiance of the bar as a whole.

build a pool table? he turned his gaze towards penny, starting to smile. he shrugged with a huff of breath. “i wouldn’t even know where to start.” though he figured finding a pool table and using horses to get one up wasn’t that bad of an idea. he’d have to consider it. he met her curious gaze momentarily, turning down to the bar as she questioned him about the bar. “i think it was equal parts everyone’s work around here. couldn’t have done it without them.” oh, wasn’t he humble. ”i gotta take credit for the idea, though. it’s a pretty good one.”

ed was here. he glanced at the man sat at a stool on the end of the bar. now was his chance to try yet again - how he hadn’t spilled beer all over this bar yet, he wouldn’t know. grinning, he grabbed another bottle and slid it right on down towards ed. surprisingly, it was actually pretty decent a shot - not topping or wobbling at least. damn he was good. he gestured towards his cousin, the fake smile on his lips so genuine as he kidded, “i usually don’t see you without a drink in your hand, eddie. thought i’d get one for you.” he could be such a shit sometimes. it was worse when he was such a shit person, while also telling a bit of truth in those digs.

Ah, and it wasn’t long before Freddie wandered over to begin heckling him. Edmund was seemingly unfazed by the biting comment - it did hold some truth to it, after all - as he caught the beer bottle sliding towards him. He thanked Fred with a short nod of the head, taking a sip of his drink as eyes remained low, staring at the bar counter. Eddie hated the truth in Fred’s words, how the comment could be so snidely said that it turned into an insult. But, he was entirely right. When did Eddie do things entirely sober nowadays? He lowered the bottle back down onto the bar, finally raising his head to look at his cousin with a vacant gaze.

❝ If we ever come across a pool table, we will disassemble it and transport it uphill with a horse-drawn wagon. ❞ Eddie explained. That ought to please Freddie to hear; some sort of approval on Eddie’s part. He took another sip of his drink before looking away. ❝ Tedious job, but if it brings people joy- ❞ He would gladly ensure it happens.

freddie enjoyed getting to watch edmund squirm a bit after a painful remark. it was frustrating when the man looked unfazed, simply nodding his head towards him in thanks before sipping at his drink. the smile on fred’s lips briefly faltered at that, seemingly displeased that ed didn’t give him any subtle reaction to egg him on. ed looked up towards him and his eyes were just vacant, empty. he stared over at the man, listening to him begin to talk about the pool table. “if we ever come across a pool table, we will disassemble it and transport it uphill with a horse-drawn wagon.” oh, wasn’t he always the one with the plan?

it was nice to see that ed showed some form of approval for one of fred’s idea for once - it was a rare sight - even with the vacant eyes and empty state of being. a grin slowly started to come across his lips, staring at ed for a moment before thwacking the man’s arm with the towel he had in his hands. that’s what i’m talking about, eddie!” the closest the two would ever appear to be getting along; of course it was because eddie was doing something for freddie.

“you do that, and i’ll make sure you’ve always got a drink in your hand when you’re in here. token of my appreciation.” the drinker would sure like that, wouldn’t he? he couldn't go without thinking that remark. sighing, he looked towards the people, starting to play darts with a well-used dart board. "until then, i guess that's got to do. there's gonna be so many holes in that wall by the end of the day."

"Well if you ever need help assembling or building one, let me know. I'm pretty good at making shit n' things of that nature." She offered with a shrug of her shoulder, she enjoyed painting and things of the art nature. Though her colored hair definitely played into a stereotype of some sort, didn't it? It probably did. She looked to Freddie and smiled sweetly "Can you be so sweet and get me a drink?" she asked hopefully, her tone was even sweet.

She looked around the bar then, at all the people who had walked inside before looking towards those who had chosen to play darts. A small but amused smirk appearing on the peach-haired girl's face "Why not go show 'em how to get a bullseye, Freddie?" she suggested with a raised eyebrow "Or you, Eddie. Someone should show them how so maybe they'll stop before their ego costs you a wall" she mused, the very thought of them giving up upon not getting a bullseye was enough to entertain Penny's mind.
