addy thought he brought just about everything the group would’ve needed in order to clean up the beach. some trash bags, even a cooler with water whenever someone wanted a drink. the longer they worked out in the sun, though, the more obvious it became that addy forgot to bring one thing, if not for the others but for himself. putting a hand on his upper arm, skin hot to the touch, he hissed under his breath. “goddamn it.” he turned his head towards the rest of the group and called, ”did anyone bring sunscreen?” it seemed a bit late for him to ask that, now. he still looked around at the rest of the cleanup crew.

their work was just about done, it seemed. most of the trash that had found its way on the beach was picked up, people cleaning beach chairs, others scoping along the water for any trash that needed picked up. looking around, he didn’t look as pleased with the progress as he truly felt. of course addy could never look impressed with the work. when did he ever seem happy with anything?

Maybe he was one of the lucky ones who didn’t burn whenever stepping out into the sunlight for any longer than ten minutes, and he most definitely didn’t realize how much of a blessing that was. Not everybody was as fortunate as him, though, he realized as he scanned the beach whilst litter picking. ❝ Did anyone bring sunscreen? ❞ Addy asked, causing Green’s head to pop up as he leaned down to pick a plastic bottle up. Poor Addy; Green supposed that blanched complexion didn’t help his chances of staying unburnt from the scorching sun.

❝ Sorry- ❞ He began, pausing before taking his cap off and offering it to Addy. ❝ I have this though… If you want? ❞ Green didn’t know how it would be very helpful apart from keeping the sun out of his eyes. Plus, the inside lining of the cap was soaked through with sweat. In retrospect, maybe Addy didn’t want to wear Green’s grimy old baseball cap. But, who could blame Green for being so hot and bothered? The group of them had worked tirelessly out on the beach all afternoon and Green was proud of their progress. The place looked better already. Healthier too. Finally, they could all properly enjoy the summer time.

gingers truly weren't meant for this kind of lifestyle. and, despite green’s somewhat blatant selflessness and kindness, at least to anyone that knew him - anyone that actually knew him would know how much he liked that cap - addy simply stared at him, looking far less than impressed. “green,” he said slowly, furrowing his brows in subtle irritation, why the hell would i want that sweaty hat?” though, he had to take a moment to look around and notice that green had offered far more than anyone else had. he at least tried to give addy something, even when he had just about nothing to offer. goddamn it. he hated that the more time he spent with the guy, the more he came to realize that he meant well.

why was it so hard to hate this guy? shifting his weight, he tried to look a bit less pissed off - it was a hard feat - as he then muttered, “thanks, but… you can keep it.” it seemed a bit late to be politely turning down the offer, didn’t it? still, he simply crossed his arms and glanced around absently at the beach work that had been done so far. “we’re just about done, anyway. the damage is already done; i'll be red as a fucking lobster tomorrow.” the closest green would ever get to an apology for being such an asshole; some things addy just didn’t care to apologize for.
