IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR — PRIVATE
#1
[align=center][div style="width:500px;text-align:justify;line-height:15px;"]Wolfsbane was not for everyone. He had been known to speak sourly or act brashly and watch the carnage unfold. He had built himself, molded the clay of himself into a misshapen figure, covered in smudges and errors. He belonged to no one, shared blood with no one, he was not a son nor a brother nor a father. Wolfsbane was simply him.

He had raised himself, had taken hold of his life at the age of eight, only to lose it and regain it by the age of sixteen. He was not an obedient child nor a good student nor a praised young boy. Wolfsbane had always been the problem child. Young boy, reckless boy, angry boy. He was not made for the life he was given, but molded himself to withstand its wreckage.

It depended who you asked if Bane was a good person. To some, he was a just the opposite, and to others, he was a saint. Wolfsbane was the grey in between what was black and white, swaying in between the two. How do you judge a man with a good heart and a record that showed just the opposite?

”Evan,” Called his rough voice, deepened by his tired state. The male carefully balanced the two plastic containers as he slowly advanced down the hall of the lodge. He neared the other’s room, and seeing the door open, used his boot to tap the wall beside it to alert her he was entering before doing so. ”Would you believe it if I told you I cooked this myself?” He raised his brows with a small smile as he offered her one of the containers full of stew.

”Though, according to one of the smartasses downstairs, it is a bit difficult to burn stew.” He settled into an empty chair, stirring the meal to let it cool. It had been just a couple days since they arrived in the lodge, and although Bane was wary of the whole event, he had to admit it was nice to have his own room and Evan hers. Nice to not have to worry constantly of their safety and what their next meal would be. The people here looked out for one another, and the comfort of living much higher than Evan and his’ previous.

With the move, Bane still found himself checking in on Evan regularly. Their rooms were just down the hall from one another, and their floor, for the most part, was empty. When the man wasn’t hunting or patrolling for the group, he was often found with Evan. Wolfsbane did not make friends easily, in fact, he often found himself growing unfriendly with anyone who actually did bother speaking to him. There was a certain distrust and degree of general disdain he had grown like a thick skin.

He looked to her, observing her briefly out of habit. He often found himself looking her over to assert her wellbeing- reading her emotions and checking if she had any new wounds from any cause. It was a habit that had stuck with him after being on their own for so long. ”How’re you settling in?” He asked before taking a spoonful of the stew.

“ THE MOST TENDER PLACE IN MY HEART ”
evan — she,her — flintlock lodge — — [url=http://]tags
evan was no ones but her own, although that wasn't based on a lack of blood relations. she kept her identity squarely in herself and tried to worry about none other than her. of course, there was quite a lot of emphasis on tried. some days she found herself an anxious wreck, and had to ride the storms out. she didn't like those days. she felt helpless. she liked helping others, but wasn't a huge fan of getting help herself. she couldn't work if she couldn't take care of herself.

she'd always been dedicated. perhaps dedicated was the wrong word. invested perhaps. invested in what little relationships she made, invested in the work she could do, invested in the life she was carving out for herself. she wouldn't stop working at any of those because the second she did they were out of her hands. they could disappear. she couldn't have that.

in her eyes, there was no such thing as a good person. nor was there any such thing as a bad person. those were labels from before. before this happened to them all. now everyone was doing what they could to survive and she wouldn't hear otherwise. she'd always been told that she was too forgiving, but she thought everybody else wasn't forgiving enough.

but wolfsbane was, perhaps, as good a person as she could find. he was a product of his environment, just like everyone else. of course that was no excuse for poor decisions, but she respected the way he turned out. he was doing the best he could and no matter what, that was good enough.

looking up as he entered, she smiled. it was a tired smile, but a smile nonetheless. she was still trying to gain her strength back from all the traveling after all. "hey bane," she greeted softly from her spot sitting on the bed. "you did? i guess would. although i'm not sure if i agree with the smartass downstairs' sentiments as i have burned stew a time or two before." she was an awful cook, now that she thought about it. once she had tried to make a simple stew herself, and it has charred itself to the bottom of the pot. that had been a fun day.

she took the bowl from him and appreciated for a long moment the heat radiating from it. it was so nice to be able to eat indoors, espescially in your own space. she still wasn't used to it, she hadn't had her own room since she was a child. she wasn't about to take it for granted though. she'd pay this group back for allowing her to stay.

she didn't mind wolfsbane's visits. she appreciated them. especially in a group of strangers that had no reason to give a damn about you, it was nice to have a friend. as for not trusting others, she wasn't about to dive into random friendships with those she didn't know, but she was going to do her best to be friendly. she worried about bane, wondering how he felt being here. did he like it?

"ah, yes. i'm settling in pretty nicely. ill be happier when i get the chance to get to know people, but until then i'm more than alright." she said with a wry smile. "and you?"
