BRIEF BACKSTORY. sonny was born to rafael and sabrina caixeta in porto alegre , brasil . when he was younger , he was always considered a " tomboy " by everyone who knew him , and to those who didn't , he was constantly mistaken as a cis boy ( and mistaken for younger than he actually was because he was small , even for a kid ) . he always felt uncomfortable when someone would use female pronouns to refer to him , but didn't really understand why until he hit fifth grade , a few months before his mother died in an accident . after his mother died , he isolated himself from everyone for awhile , but a few months after , he and his dad had a talk , and he came out to him . his father didn't fully understand it all , but he was completely supportive from the get-go , and was also completely supportive when sonny told him that he was gay . his father , with the help of his ( sonny's dad's ) sister , got him his first binder not too long after , and he got his name legally changed when he was 14 . he started on t when he was 16 , and got top surgery a year later . at his usual age , he's four years post-op and five years on t ; at his oldest , he's 9 years post-op and 10 years on t .
