personality
despite being a clan cat, nighthawk is rather detached from his clan. he isn't the kind of cat to take initiative when it comes to social situations. many find that he comes off as cold and sardonic, and they're not exactly wrong. he's quick to anger, impressively so, and isn't hesitant to take his anger out on others in the form of words (or in the past, in the form of claws and fangs). though he's rather gruff and is seen as a rather serious tom at times, he is more of a dreamer than he cares to admit.
deep down, he's rather soft and caring, but buries it behind a facade of bitterness and depression. since he found out that he's a father, he has become a little more distracted while he dreams of becoming a part of their life, though with his filthy mind, that hasn't stopped his habit of flirting with any cat he deems attractive. and despite his lackadaisical nature, the embers of ambition burn deep inside of him.
nighthawk, while rather plain-looking, is an attractive fellow. at least that's what some of his "friends" seem to think, given his promiscuous history. with soft black and white fur covering his lean and slightly small frame, he comes off as almost sophisticated. despite his plain yet handsome looks, his appearance does hold some charm to it. the black fur that covers the majority of his body is flecked with stray white hairs, while the tips of the back of his ears are white.
one might take one glance at him and wonder why some find themselves drooling over him. but once they look into his eyes, they may understand why. the color of his eyes are akin to a field of sunflowers, and though they are usually dulled by the sadness seen within them, they are as warm as the sun when a genuine smile flourishes across his face. though those instances are rather rare.
history
nighthawk wasn't exactly born into the most loving and present family. being the only surviving kitten in his litter, with the others having been stillborn, you would think that his parents would dote over him. but that wasn't the case. once he was weaned, his mother had left the nursery in favor of her warrior duties, while his father never really paid much attention to him in the first place. nightkit was left in the care of the other cats in the nursery and while he had many playmates, he still found himself longing for the attention and affection of his parents. when he became an apprentice, he was excited at the opportunity to impress them, and trained long and hard to become a skilled warrior they would be proud of. he would train until he nearly passed out from exhaustion, and would do the same the next day.
but even after being an overachieving apprentice and earning the suffix -hawk for his skill and stealth, all he earned was a congratulations before they went went along with their business. questions began to ring through his mind once he realized he was likely never going to be good enough in their eyes. 'is something wrong with me?' and 'did i do something wrong?' were common thoughts for the new warrior. he would look at the cats he grew up with and envy them, as they were showered with love during their warrior ceremonies. he began to hate his own clan, and he began to hate himself.
nighthawk became more antisocial, avoiding conversation with his own clanmates in favor of drowning his sorrows in the affections of other clan cats and the occasional loner. he would practically crave the attention he was given, and the comfort of being close to them. sometimes he would even think of running off to be with some of them in their own clans, only to shut down those fantasies when he imagined the heated glares from their clanmates, unless his fear of commitment shut them down first.
